  1. Here are pics of my bin (pardon my messy floor :P );

Has a pull out handle and wheels on the other end for pulling.

On the left, my boots are packed upright and my hat is on top. On the right is the bag that contains my gunner helmet (laying on its side). Side pouches in the bag hold gloves, compad, and a stick of deodorant. Underneath the bag is the gunner bib and belt. Underneath those is the flight suit, folded neatly in a flat square. Soon to join them is a Hyperfirm E-11. Not sure how feasible this is for an officer uniform as it might be more prone to wrinkling. I like that I can keep everything handy in one permanent place. I think it'll also make it easier to swap out my IG gear for IC.

    I need more stickers :P

It's also strong enough for me to sit on, although I would use a chair if available. I checked these online and saw them (same brand, Sterilite) going for $40+, so I can't believe I found one for $20! If it falls apart in a year, I won't feel so sad. ;)

Ideally I'd like to use it to carry both the officer and TK and have them both with me for any troop so that I can be flexible depending on what character works best.  For those of you who troop as both, is that realistic?

Like I said, only thing I would worry about is the uniform getting wrinkled or creased, depending on the material used to make it. Although, I've seen pics of Cosplay Sky uniforms come halfway around the world all bundled up in a package and look pretty passable out of the box. ;) Worst case, you can maybe attach the garmet bag (or a light one suiter) to the top of your bin so that it lays flat along the top as you tote it. Boots, hat, belt, etc. should probably fit in the bin with some "Tetris". ;)
  2. So I'm just curious what everyone carries their costume in when they go to/from a troop.

My first few troops I just used a large rolling suitcase which fit my boots, flight suit, and all other accessories. Today I was at Target and found a 45 gallon wheeled tote bin for $20 bucks so I picked that up. Especially handy now that I have the gunner costume as well. I can fit all of my costume stuff (and the helmet, which is kept in a separate bag in the bin) in one place and its easy to swap out costumes when I want to. Also keeps everything together in my closet, as sometimes I needed to use the suitcase for...luggage.

Also, I now have a great place to put Legion/Garrison/Detachment/Star Wars stickers and decals. ;)

  3. I've seen that listing before and it confuses the heck out of me. I don't know if they are the tall officer boots or shorter jack boot style. The name makes them sound like officer boot, but the look more like jack boot. Would help if they said how tall they are. As I pretty much have boots I'm happy with right now, I didn't investigate any further.

Also, the ad states that the buckles are optional.

  4. i have a friend who is a wizard with the sewing machine and i have no doubt he can fix mine. but my brother's may not be able to get his fixed. it's a shame because his is very well put together and has all the requirements for higher level approval. 2 inch dart in the yoke and correct clasps, etc. it just won't fit. too small. oh and the zipper is some cheap plastic one that is assured to break.

I would keep bugging them about it until they offer to fix or refund.

  5. The "451" version is a screen accurate ANH black uniform officer. In ROTJ, the black uniform had the same cut as the olive green, but they did not wear rank insignia. The standard officer cut is approvable for all versions though, however the 451 is most accurate for ANH black uniform.

  6. They are a little behind on the Premium. Although they always say minimum lead time, so it's hard to say what is actually late.

My bigger issue with the Premium line is the cost for a non custom made costume. The Premium line should all be custom made to the customers measurements. As far as I understand, the only difference is the fabric and limited run. I don't know how many will think that is worth $1000 more.

Those are ridiculous prices for something that is literally "off the rack", especially site unseen and a year or more on pre-order. The sad thing is that as long as people will pay, they will continue to charge as such. If I were to pay that much for a suit, it had better be measured to fit and look sharp on me. Personally, I will not be getting a costume from them anyways as their largest costume offered is too small for me.

  7. I'm trying to use this pattern but having some issues. It's virtually impossible to get 8x14 paper where I am, everyone uses 8x11. So I printed out the pattern at full size and lost some of the bits due to them not fitting on paper, I figured I'd just match it up on adobe on my screen and trace the rest of the patterns out (mainly just the crown is cut off) but at 100% on the pdf it doesn't match up any where close to what popped out of my printer (note it wasn't adjusted to fit onto the 8x11.5 paper, rather printed at full size).

Has anyone used this pattern successfully? If so did you use it as it was printed or trace it at 100% size from your screen?

You must be in the deep sticks! ;)

Any office supply store or even Wal-Mart or Target should have 8 1/2 by 14 paper (Staples, Office Max, Etc.). If you're trying to avoid buying a whole ream, try libraries, government offices, hotels, etc. They might come off with a couple of sheets.

  8. Those will work for basic acceptance, I believe, but they don't look great. My advice is to check ebay for a good used set of leather boots. You can pick them up for not much more than that. I have said this before but the boots make the uniform. Just like with a good suit, you need good footwear. A pair of leather boots, shined up looks much more professional and accurate.

I agree with this. Those would be good for basic approval, but you may want to go with leather. Leather not only looks better, but also breathes better so your feet will be more comfortable. PVC or pleather type products really don't have much give. This is especially important if you have calves bigger than maybe 17". Just because they have your shoe size doesn't necessarily mean they'll fit over your calves. Leather can be stretched a couple of inches. PVC or pleather, not so much.

You might want to research carefully and maybe put in a few extra bucks towards boots. You'll be happier in the end (and so will your feet!).
