mwilsen got a reaction from KansasTrooper in Sealing Leather Belts
Continue...
So in conclusion:
Here are the pros and cons I found for both the Leather Sheen and the Resolene:
LEATHER SHEEN
Pros:
1. Easily applied
2. No applicator required
Cons:
1. More expensive ($14.99)
2. Doesn't stop all dye bleeding
3. Doesn't waterproof as well
RESOLENE
Pros:
1. Cheaper ($7.99)
2. Waterproofs better
3. Stops almost all dye bleeding
Cons:
1. Must purchase seperate applicator
2. Harder to apply and more messy
In conclusion, Resolene seems to be the much better solution to seal leather belts. The finishes seemed to look the same after drying. Resolene waterproofs both the rough and smooth side better. The water droplets never seemed to absorb into the leather on either side and stayed pooled in a droplet. Unfortunatly the sample with the Leather Sheen absorbed the water almost immediately on the rough side. It also stopped almost all traces of dye bleeding after applied. There was still noticeable dye bleeding with the Leather Sheen. I will definatly be using the Resolene for any leather finishing or waterproofing needs.
*Special thanks to Kris for the Resolene suggestion*
I hope this will help anyone in anyway with similar questions or needs. Let me know if you have any questions.

mwilsen got a reaction from RhianDeGirondel in Another boots question
Chuck,
Everyone has to follow the chain and get approved first, meet the requirements for executor, and then go to imperator. You are correct there are some special reqirements each piece must contain for different levels, but the higher levels are graded by the costume as a whole, and don't realy have "different areas."
If your end goal is to reach a higher level, then my suggestion to you is to find a character you would like to portray and model it after him/her. That way you buy all the appropriate versions of each accessory. IE: correct belt style or rank bar.
If you have the money or time now, go ahead and buy or find the appropriate boots for level 3 and then you won't have to buy another pair. The rest of the accessories will just have to follow your character.
RANK BAR
- Copy your characters rank bar
BELT
- Plain undied edges = ANH
- Plain belt = ESB
- Belt with grooves = ROTJ
TUNIC/JODHPURS
- Tailor them to fit you appropriately and fix the flaps as needed. IE: reshaping or stiffening
CODE CYLINDERS
- Match your characters style and amount
SPECIAL NOTE
- Look for any uniqueness or differences your character may have.
IE: - Extra holes in belt
- Holster/Blaster
- Gloves
Ofcourse there are exceptions and differences to these guidelines but just try to build your costume so people believe ypu could be in the movie.
If you have any questions let us know.
Good luck, and have fun!

mwilsen got a reaction from wesrm in Boot bag from Todd's Costumes
Wes,
The boot hooks can just help pull your feet deeper into the boots. Its alot more noticeable with softer leather boots where you'll see a bit of bunching on the back or sodes. They'll just give you a cleaner look. Great looking bag!

I was thinking the same thing. I was watching them with interest back when it was at $40. But now you might as well go Todds costumes, Hessen Antiques, or Magnoli for same price.

mwilsen got a reaction from Hask in Attaching greeblie on Imperial Hat
Mike,
I actualy have mine attached with the pin:
The neodinium magnets are rare earth magnets and can be bought in all sort of sizes and are very strong. You can buy a thin one to attach to your greeblie. The benifit is you will not have to puncture your hat with a pin. Here is an example: http://www.google.com/search?q=thin+rare+earth+magnets&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjMzNiBr4jMAhWHlx4KHaMDC0IQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=615&dpr=3#spd=8080088437692907364&spud=0
Just make sure you buy the right size.
Here is a picture of a magnet glued to a greeblie thanks to Kris (nocternus):
Good luck! Let us know if you have any questions.
