Maulevolent reacted to Hellblazer in Used Officers Boots Size 10.5 On eBay
Hey guys and gals, the endless search for correct Officer Boots continues. I did find a quality "Used" pair on eBay, but alas I wear a size 11.5 to 12 and these are only size 10.5. But I figured I could atleast help a fellow Imp out. If these boots don't look correct, then it's my boo boo, but based on what I've seen they look pretty accurate, they just need a little buffing and love and care...

Just to put you further at ease, here's a picture of the width and height of the buttons I received (part #s in my previous post).  I'm measuring the last red tile in each picture.

They are the accurate size and my rank bar is approved.

    Width (1/2 "):

    Height (3/4 "):

Any variation is due to the tape not being perfectly flat; it's what I had in reach

Maulevolent reacted to fil5117 in ID-20979 Requesting Staff Officer Executor Status
We, the command staff, have discussed the Soviet Boots and have come to a decision.

Whilst they do not meet the requirements for Imperator Standard, the leather is too supple and their look and styling isn't consistent with English riding or equestrian boots. We have agreed they do look better than PVC riding boots that people traditional use for base clearance. As such we think they sit nicely in the Executor level - a marked improvement on PVC, but not up to the standard of English or equestrian riding boots, as seen in the films.

Good luck with that, but I think it looks fine the way it is. If nothing else, maybe test a swath of fabric from the extra you ordered before committing the whole costume to your experiment.

Maulevolent reacted to fil5117 in Belt Groove?
From my study of the films. The belts are different in each of the classic Trilogy films. Personally, I think it would excellent if you could replicate the belt for the film, but that's just my OCD.

ANH : Plain, undyed / scuffed upper and bottom edges
    ESB : Plain
    RotJ : Belt groove

This appears to be true on a general level. For me it's all about studying the costume and understanding it. In Executor and Imperator clearance I have been quite lenient, because I don't think my level of OCD is for everyone

And as Mark says we have some excellent belts available here on the forum.

For me I always try and replicate what you see on screen. Someone who isn't well versed with the costume may question your decision, but you will be able to show your reference. I believe the CRL would be confusing if it tried to go into too much depth. As BJ said it's a guideline for all occurrences of the costume. If many people wear that costume in the film, with different configurations it will become more generalised. This is why a number of items have been shown as being optional.

The measurements in the CRL are basically more of a guideline. The measurements (as long as equal between the tiles) depend mostly on your size, or the specific rank you're constructing. The chart I made isn't to any real scale and greatly demonstrates my lack of artistic skill
The ranks in the movies were all hand made and could have various differences in spacing.
It's been long thought that, for example, the spacing on Veers' rank is a tad bit wider because Julian Glover is a bigger fellow than say, Michael Sheard who had a larger rank to wear.

Maulevolent reacted to Bravara in Can CosplaySky hats be made usable?
Well.... I got my uniform and hat. The uniform looks pretty good, I'll post a separate topic for that, but the hat... Goodness. It's just...
When people say its too big, I think they're underestimating lol
I'll post some pics when I can get on my laptop, I took pretty good all-around pics so people can see what they're dealing with.
As far as my plan goes - I'll be carving the hat up and recutting the pieces to fit the established pattern. There's probably enough material for two hats

Maulevolent got a reaction from Bravara in cosplaysky buckle
The code disc on the buckle and the hat (which Cosplaysky uses the same for both) are not accurate in design.  It's flatter than an accurate code disc, lacks the center indentation, and does not have the notch; though the last point is a level 2 requirement and above.

    CosplaySky version:

    Museum Replicas version (accurate):

General consensus is to avoid both the CosplaySky hat and belts for a number of reasons.

They didn't say they wouldn't assist further, just asking for an explanation as to why it took two months from your receipt of the item until you reported an issue so they can escalate the case because it's outside of their policy.
I think it's a reasonable question which you've answered here and should respond to them in kind. If they still won't offer any assistance then you can write them off.
Keep in mind, there is also a language consideration here (English as a second language) so things can get lost in translation particularly through email.
