  1. Hey y'all;

I'm looking for a few folks to help with a test of sorts.  Basically, you'd get a free rogue one style badge :).

Looking for 3 sign ups, preferably from people in the U.S. but elsewhere is fine too.

If you're interested hit me up here and I can PM with more details.

    ~Sarah

  2. Thanks for pinging me!

Here's my two cents.  Keep in mind while I'm super duper anal about my own costuming standards and measurements and sourcing, I have a sometimes differing opinion than a lot of people as to what should be in the CRL.

We should *not* use sizes as an absolute anywhere in the CRL.  While on screen rank bars definitely used EAO 31 sized (or competitor similarly sized) buttons for Rogue One, if we put in exact sizes anywhere you're gonna have jerk GMLs pulling out rulers to deny people.

Plus if an officer has a 1.1" rank bar backing, or their tiles are slightly too far or too close together, no one especially John Q Public is not going to know or care.

Even more so, sometimes you get people are extreme sizes.  A 4' 6" person rocking a standard sized rank bar might look really wonky compared to an appropriately scaled one.  I'd rather our verbiage (especially at basic approval) be inclusive of that.

These are the kind of things that should be listed on a resource page / research page, not a CRL.  For a CRL:

    * Approximately 1" backing, with a metal appearance.

    * Translucent tiles, sized appropriately.  Approximately 1/2" width by 3/4" height, with approximately 1/8" depth.

*On screen ones were 12.7mm x 19mm x 3.2mm (or whatever EAO et all size them at, I don't have the spec handy.)

    * Spacing between the rank bar tiles should be minimal, but present (approximately 3.5mm?) with little to no spacing at the end of the bar.

I really really don't like the licensed source note.  Call it single row and have a field day.  Just say Blue / Red / OrangeYellow is appropriate I think.  Otherwise we split hairs on what's real, whats canon, whose feelings are hurt because some artwork or something had a configuration they liked... This isn't really level one stuff to me.

I think the rest is fine on rank bars.  I do suggest you use words like "Has the appearance of" or "Emulates the appearance of" for metal and push buttons.  I am of the mind we should never specify or require materials.  I mean if someone has a polished cold cast 1" backing to their rank bar that looks indistinguishable from a piece of aluminum, I don't think we should say no.

  3. Hey,

I've had a fair few folks ask me for Krennic-style badges with extra trim because of the Version 3/4 CRL photo here:

From the movie itself the trimming around the edges is much thinner than that (consistent with all Rogue One and Solo badges):

Most of the folks that have asked for the extra trim were going off the CRL and seeing the picture thought that it was supposed to have that extra trim on the sides.  This could confuse costumers and GMLs that don't have particular knowledge on the sources.

Here's a replacement picture I took of a flashback-style bar with smaller trim that could replace the image:

  4. Chiming in; Walt is actually in my garrison and I've had plenty of in person dealings with him.

I've seen his shop, his molds are good, his ABS is decent quality, and he knows the makers trade well.  However, I will say the folks that he uses to manage sales are a hot mess from my experience.  The best way to get stuff from him for me has been directly contacting him, or literally driving to his house for pickup (Something that might not be possible for folks outside the area :P )

But he's been an honest guy from all my dealings.  Behind on orders and stuff he will slow down obviously, but most of his stuff is pretty good quality and he has a good eye for stuff.

I wouldn't recommend it as the apex of accuracy like some other makers, but if you're looking for a decent kit that will get you to 501st and a reliable costume, he's got my recommendation.

You're pretty knowledgeable, so I can see why they would think that! :)

Is it just R1 that they used the bigger pushbutton ranks or did they do it in Solo too?  Technically, even the OT rank bars wouldn't be correct replicating a R1 officer since their rank tiles were sized differently.  Maybe that's that nuance stuff you talked about ignoring? ;)

For rank bars, it looks like Disney is going with the larger ones for all "New Canon" GCW movies.  Near as I can tell, rank bars are the same size in R1/SOLO.  They look a lot more impactful in my opinion.

  6. Can someone shed some light on which costumes correspond to which movies?

The Warrant Officer seems to be the stock ROTJ black uniform officer; no rank bar, no cylinders, a couple of boxes, some gloves, and neck clasp in the front.

Version 1 says it was seen in ANH as well?  A background/stunt actor somewhere?  Was it it a black Line Officer-style tunic, or does it close on the neck side like the 451?

The ANH Staff Officer is self explanatory: the neck side closing 451 jacket, holster on some folks, the rank bars.  Basically all the black uniform officers we see in ANH.

So what is Staff Officer (Black Uniform)?  Seems like rankbar/cylinders, like ANH black uniform officers, but with a Line Officer style tunic, like ESB/ROTJ?  Did any of these appear in any of the films, or are they strictly an "expanded universe" costume configuration?

Just trying to get my head around which is which so I can help inform other folks in my garrison/at armor parties when they ask me :)
