I was always under the impression that line officers made up the command structure. They lead troops in the field and higher ranking line officers made command decisions. Staff officers were "aides" to the higher ranking line officers and helped to staff and run command centers and headquarter positions thus the name staff officer.

The CRL's say chelsea style boots are acceptable you might want to check with your GML to see if the zippers are acceptable. The CRL's don't say anything about it but zippers are not acceptable in most cases.

Glad to hear that you are safe and hope it continues to be that way.
You can get basic approval without a weapon and then add one for when you start trooping i would check with your local garrison first but an E-11 should be fine

I'm a nurse so I will be working throughout, my thoughts are with everyone who may not be able to work during this time. Hopefully everyone can use a bit of common sense and not take any unnecessary risks and we can all get through this quickly and safely.

If money is not a problem then custom is the way to go.
If you are wanting to go for higher levels than no zippers or stretch panels are allowed. Spanish style and flat top are acceptable.
The CRLs say nothing about polish but remember we do portray military personal so you really want to have as high gloss as you can it looks more impressive especially for higher ranks such as Admiral, Grand Admiral and Moffs.

Yes you are correct and it really does help a lot (especially with the taller riding boots). Most people use elastic but what ever you use make sure and give yourself a bit of slack if the straps are too short then when you put your boots on the straps cut into the bottom of your foot. Trust me I had to redo mine.

You can check on ebay there are some sellers that carry supplies for WWII reenactors for reasonable prices that's where I found mine.

I liked the original Battlefront. I would go to the top of the hill overlooking the shield generator on Hoth using the sniper rifle and could shoot people all over the battlefield!
