  1. Convincing myself it's a light joke.

When the crew number 1 moves his head toward the officer near the wall the color of the hat seems to become green, while the hat of the crew number 2 is still hitten by the same light which affects Piett's sleeve.

By doing this research I've found something which might be interesting to discuss. I mean, it seems some crews seem don't have the mandarin collar in ESB. But again, it's difficult to say, since every move it's blurred. I post some pics.

Open this one to see it big:

  2. I'm pretty sure some ESB scanning crews wear grey hats, not olive.

If your doubt is on the light, which is totally understandable, here is a direct comparison under the same light. As you can see, the scanning crews hats don't match the color of the officer's hats, which is olive.

What do you think about that? Have you ever discussed about this before?

  3. Back in 2003 I was looking for stuff and materials to make a Darth Vader costume for a carnival costume party. An easy one, I didn't know it would be possible to make a screen accurate one.
Looking on the internet I knew these bunch of people (not more than 7-8) joining the cons in their "accurate" (at that time armors and pieces were less accurate than today) costumes and that opened me a new world. So I knew everything about the few makers on the market (most of them are "dead" or disappeared today) and start planning to have and build my first FX stormtrooper armor by myself (FISD and detachments did not exsist yet) and joining the 501st. This is why my nickname is a TK ID.
I have been a TK for 3 years and then I passed as a "classified record" until 2016, when I re-activated my ID. But due to a heavy surgery on my spinal cord I couldn't no longer wear an armor, so I decided to re-join the 501st with a more comfortable costume, such as the Bridge Crew and later a Staff Officer.
    That's it.

As I understand it, the designations don't actually stand for anything.  The authors of the books that expanded the SW universe just thought they sounded cool.

The only truly Canon designation is "TK", since that was used in ANH.  And that isn't an acronym.

So you can pretty much think of them any way you want. :) But there's no official breakdown, as they're not actually acronyms.

Exactly. And I'm pretty sure in ANH TK421 was the whole identification number, including the two letters. As far as we know, the other troopers could be ZY531, JB789, etc... at that time.

If we can't judge anything by a picture, then how would this whole 501st thing work? We have to make some determination based on the images we see. It's what the OP asked for- opinions based on a photo.

I still stand by my statement. While in darker lighting it might lean towards grey, I don't believe the color in the image will ever lean towards olive and next to an ANOVOS outfit, which I've seen in person, this one would look totally out of place colour-wise.

Under the right lightning, the jacket in the picture should be seen like this.
If not, it's not feldgrau colored.

I never said Cosplaysky's was right. I just said I really don't like the proposed one he had. It doesn't read feldgrau to me, or olive. It's almost sea-blue-green which is neither imo.

The porposed one is the original feldgrau, and I was pointing on the fact we cannot judge it by a picture, because the feldgrau color must be seen under the sunlight, which is the neutral color light (5500 kelvin degress) to understand which color really is. Fieldgrey is the english for Feldgrau.

I made some color test and talked about it in a dedicated topic

I really dislike that colour and don't think it looks anywhere near what it should. It doesn't have any olive in it and is trending towards blue, which the olive should not. I think I'd be more inclined to change to black than this and would be upset if I saw this colour approved as it would stick out from every other uniform like a sore thumb.

We may not like the Cosplaysky olive, but it's still in the same family olive, so it passes as at least fitting in with others. This would not.

The correct color of the olive uniform is the nazi feldgrau. It changes depending on the light on it. If the light is warm it becomes green, but if the light is cold it becomes blueish-grey.
For the same reason we cannot judge the color of the nazi uniform by a picture.
Anovos has the closest color match.

The princess seams that curve look fine, but I'm not sure if the ones next to it are the seams that run along the sides. It's hard to tell in that photo. Perhaps wearing the tunic would be easier to tell.

    They're not.

If you look accurately you can see the jacket is closed, so there's no reason for the side seams to show themselves in the back.

Moreover, you can see the seams stop at a certain point, so they're surely not the side ones.

  9.

Grey uniforms show up all over the licensed Star Wars universe.

The first time we see one is this guy right here on the right.  He is also seen speaking to Tarkin before the Death Star fires on Alderaan.  He is most definitely NOT ISB.

    general ziering

The Dark Horse series of comics, particularly "Empire" showed many officers in Grey contrasted here with one in the Olive Green.  The difference was to reflect a difference between the Army and Navy.

But the most recent example of a Grey officer uniform is the one worn by Governor Pryce on Rebels.  The selection of her uniform color has more to do with her being meant to look like Colonel Doctor Spalko from the last Indiana Jones movie.

The guy on the right is not a censed Officer on the CRL. He has no pockets (and no cylinders of course) and he seems to have a closed collar on the front and a pocket on the right arm.
But if you look at that scene you can find other strange no censed officers, which you can only see in that scene. I think iot was made to show some different people with other duties you can't see on the bridges.

Thats interesting. Cool find. The figure's facial features dont even match Moff Jerjerrod on the side picture. But I guess its just an "Imperial Officer". I figure that Hasbro back in the day didnt pay much attention to detail, and in some shots in the movie, due to lighting, the olive-green uniform looks grey. Even that picture of Moff Jerjerrod looks like a grey uniform, even though in most of the movie, its clearly olive-green. So they probably just went with it without thinking twice.

Much more for the color grading/filter I think. And "olive green" is a feldgrau, the same used for the nazi uniforms, which means under the daylight is a greeny-gray, not olive. It becomes olive under warm lights, and grey under cold ones. We can clearly see the color changing under different temperatures of the light once they've digitally remastered the old trilogy. But in the original movies the filter was more blueish, and a color grading by areas was not possible at that time, so it was harder to see the green on the uniforms.

Yeah, as a newb I went ahead and ordered one from CosplaySky with my first uniform since they were running a great promo. Bad move on my part. The hat might work for Andre the Giant, but not my nugget. I have some friends local that I've thought about getting with to see if I could modify, but I'm thinking it'll be easier just to have one made from scratch.

I think it could worth try to modify and reshape the hat only if the stitching design on the peak is accurate.

  12. Still anything about the hat on the CRL? I mean... the disc is not the same as the normal officers, so knowing something about the measurments would be fine... Do you know wether it would be inserted in the CRL or not in the near future?

Do you know exactly what kind of modifications are required for the hat and belt? I can find the belt elsewhere, but is the hat's disk just incorrect or is there more?

You must refer to the legion CRL:
    http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:ID_imperial_officer_black

First looking the belt I can see there are two rivets on the left side, while there must be just one on the center line. The buckle must have a specific measure and shape, ditto for the disk. My advice is to buy from other members. Just check here in the forum under "personal sale" section.

Here you can watch how a guy modified a cheap officer hat. It is not a tutorial, and he didn't change the disk, but it's just to see the difference between an unmodified cheaper hat, and one modified.

  14. CosplaySky's hats are not acceptable, but they can be with some adjustments. That all depends on how much it would cost to you. If you can adjust it by yourself you could make it cheaper, but if not... you could spend much more than buying an accurate one directly. In any case you must change the disk, because the default one you get is heavily inaccurate.

    Same thing for the belt.

As I've mentioned in another post I am preparing for a Staff Officer uniform. I've been scouring the web for appropriate Rank Bars and Code Cylinders, as well as for the belt that is not included in the costume I'm purchasing from CosplaySky.

As far as I know, items from CosplaySky, except for the deluxe version of the officer tunic and the Tie flightsuit, are not 501st acceptable.

  16. I realized my body fits the rack sizes quite well, so if I would go for a L size on their flight suit I'm pretty sure it would fit me perfectly. But L size is two sizes more than mine, according to their chart. I would like to know whether it would be the same with this new version of the officer suit or not.
I think I'm gonna write them to know it, but any feedback would help.

  17. As far as I know, the producer of CosplaySky is in china. I bought a flight suit and it came tighter than the size they mentioned on their site. I've ordered an M size, which would be fit me little larger but it was tight, I had to order a L size to fit it well...
Does anybody know if it's the same for this kind of product? Should I go for a larger size?
