This change make no sense. It would have been easier to change CRL name to ANH and made a new CRL for R1/Solo that way old Staff Officers are grandfather ed under the ANH Name.
The ANH uniform is different from the R1/Solo uniform. That's why it has it's own CRL.

I saw that too. Since I've been waiting almost 3 months for an "in stock" order, I didn't bother passing the news along.
I hope you get the hat, and that it doesn't take too long. If it's just one item, maybe it'll ship in a reasonable time.

The more I look at your build and the dictionary image, I'm wondering if the lower part of the tunic needs to be another inch or three longer.
It could be the belt needs to be worn higher, but that lower looks short.
Also, the triangle yoke thing seems to meet at the shoulder a little different. I can't quite describe it, but still something is off there too.

Do you mean the Solo VR?
Brilliant find though. Much prefer the trenchie to the Batman cape CRL would need to call out the different colour and material of the black collar.
Good call on the collar difference. Were they all like that? I would assume so, but When I do that I usually end up wrong. haha
How would you like to word the collar change?

I went through the entire film's worth of screen caps.
Other than the belt, these are the only two useful things I pulled out.
The chest rank bar seems to be plain a plain metal rectangle with radiused ends. If I had to guess, I'd say about 3/8 to 7/16 tall by maybe 2 to 2 1/2 long?
Hope they help!

@Imperialrebel, there are a few things that I need to clear up.
I do fully support this for CRL.
Iam not overly concerned about the lack of a detailed back view.
As long as you knock what we can see/do know out of the park.
The rank band Aurabesh writing as an example should read "stems".
So I just want to reiterate, I'm in your corner.
Take your time and get all the details that we can gleam locked down.
And keep up the good work!

I applaud the update but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE on this and other Officer CRLS (but especially this one since the reference I’m talking about is specifically from Rogue One) - make the hat optional!
There are officers with black, olive, and white uniforms on screen who do not wear their hats. Making it required instead of optional only makes us GMLs punish people for trying to replicate a specific character or specific look with verifiable on screen reference (that’s even ignoring all the comic references of officers without hats). Tarkin’s attaché in Rogue One is just one example but there are plenty of others. We don’t have “Face Officer” CRLs in IOC and instead do that in the Level 3 so saying “you have to be doing this officer specifically to not need the hat” doesn’t make sense at the GML level.
That's a discussion we can have. I'll be honest in saying though, that I'm pro hats. I've always liked the sans hat option the way it is now; where you go for level 2 or 3 as a hatless officer rather than at level 1.

Nice work!
May I ask though, where is the 6.4mm spacing between rank tiles coming from? At that much of a distance they really won’t look ‘right’ for those doing R1/Solo costumes. I’d even argue that this distance is a little extreme for most OT rank badges as well. This is just my humble opinion of course and no disrespect is intended!
That was a hold over from the old rank bar text. And it can certainly be adjusted. What spacing or wording would you propose?

Hello officers!
So going back to February of 2018 there was discussion of updating the Staff Officer, (black) CRL to bring it in line with Rogue One and Solo.
I've been saying I wanted to get this done, but saying things doesn't do 'em.
Most of the work was done HERE by @Steven, with input from many many others.
I've gone through and tried to verify all aspects of that research using 4K screen captures from Star Wars Screen Caps of both Rogue One and Solo.
What I've come up with (in the next post) is a detailed draft CRL. We have new photos ready for the parts (where needed) and I want to bring it to all of you for critique.
The thrust of this revamp, is two fold.
Firstly, to get R1/Solo costume parts as approvable. Technically they already are, since references always trump CRLs. But this will take any potential fight out of using these parts.
And secondly, to get Staff Officers right. What we refer to as "Staff Officers" - prior to R1 and Solo - did not appear on screen. In A New Hope, their uniforms weren't simply black versions of the Line Officer uniform. Hence, we now have ANH Staff Officer as it's own CRL.
Staff Officers as we classified them didn't appear in ESB or RotJ either. They were all Warrant Officer in RotJ or Navy Officer in ESB and RotJ. But they didn't wear rank bars.
So now that we have a proper ANH CRL, I want the "old" CRL to encompass what we know - which excludes ANH.
This wil NOT affect anyone who is already approved with the Staff Officer (black) CRL. They're grandfathered in.
It will affect approvals going forward. And the last thing I want, is for someone who is close to submitting photos to get denied because we've updated the CRL. So if this proposal carries the day, it will have a lengthy grace period and ample discussion with GMLs before being green lit.
So here is a rundown of the changes.
- Hat disk no notch LVL 1
- Tunic yoke dart language changed at LVL 2
- Rank can be any config that isn't exclusive to ANH LVL 1
- R1/Solo sized buttons LVL 2
- Single bar only LVL 2
- R1/Solo rank only LVL 3
- Between 0 and 2 cylinders LVL 1
- Silver toned clips LVL 2
- Belt grooves LVL 3
- Krennic strap on boots LVL 3
- Belt boxes R1/Solo sized LVL 1 (optional)
- Added short gloves (optional)
- Only accepted blaster SE-14R (optional)
- SR-14R holster (optional)
Now, blasters from comics can be added as references are brought forward. However, it can't JUST be a reference. If an approved costumer gathers the reference AND has the blaster, we can reveiw the entry.
Also, the FO boots aren't included yet. We know they were used. But other than Milton Putna in the Visual Dictionary, I can't find a clear example of them in the screen caps. Also, there seems to have been a hybrid FO boot with a heel to further muddy the water.
I don't want the perfect to be the enemy of the good here though.
In terms of accuracy, this proposal is a seismic shift in the way things have always been and changes one of the oldest CRLs in the IOC.
With all that said, please read it over and ask questions.

I wonder if the top of the tunic is supposed to be like High Moff Morlish Veed with armor up there?

I'm super excited by the Controller option. The costume itself is pretty boring, actually, but the Lobot headset would be awesome. (especially for those of us who shave bald!) Assuming someone actually makes them, at least. That'll be the tricky part.
Someone was looking at doing the Rebels Controller costume a year or so back. I'm sure it could be 3D modeled/printed. Trick would be to get a good fit to the ole cranium.

Interesting.
Looking at the 2nd photo, I'd almost go with traditional Fieldgrau for the color.
That one almost looks like a combination of the 451 ANH uniform and the Line Officer. I like it!
Are there any good references for the back of the uniform? That always seems to be the stumbling block for us...
For your break down, it sounds like a good start.

HaHA! Sometimes my memory doesn't fail me. That new guy I was calling a "Controller" is in fact a Controller.
Here is the one from Rebels:
That's for sure the same outfit. Well, a less animated one.

Hey gang!
I'm not sure where to drop these, so this is where they'll live for now.
I finally watched the Star Wars Squdrons game play trailer, and took screen shots of things I felt would be of interest to us.
There is a Gray Suited crewman guy
He seems to have the R1 style cogs, belt boxes and (Solo Mimban gogles?).
We have a new.. what I'm calling a "Controller" for now, reminicsent of the one from Rebels
In the second "Controller" picture, you can just make out princess seams on the Captain's shoulder. I haven't seen if the officer render has a straight seam as well (like in Battlefront 2)
And lastly of interest for us is what I beleive to be Admiral Sloane. Not yet a Grand Admiral though.
You can see the distinctive white stripe of hair on her left. That's gotta be her. I don't know the timeline for when she got the GA uniform, but man would it have been nice to see.
As we get close to the game launch (October 20?) I'm sure we'll see more.

Hi Ken! As has been mentioned already, the Flag Officer CRL with the red armband is the same as what Admiral Griss wears.
The CRL writing portion is all done for you.
I gotta say though. I've looked at the website for where you're looking to have it made. ezcosplay
You will be disappointed with what you get if you do go with them. I can say with 99% certainty that it will not be approvable. The photo is blurry, but I can see already that the pants are original trilogy type.
I can not stress this enough: You will be disappointed if you order from them.

Curious where you found the flat metal for the band? (or what it's actually called?) I've been killing myself trying to figure out how to search for that stuff so I could make one myself. I have everything else collected, but the flat metal spring steel has eluded me...
Pallet banding. When I was interning in a tool room, I had to scrounge to make some springs for a stamping machine fixture. Couldn't find any anywhere. Old guy in there sorta shakes his head, grabs a tin snip and says "Follow me". So we go to shipping, he cuts a chunk of steel pallet banding and hands it to me.
Sure enough. It's high carbon spring steel, about a 32nd thick.|
Now, you'd need to cut it to width, but any good brake press should do the trick.. haha

Those look fantastic!
I've been dragging my feet on creating my own version of the crew headset, but when I get around to it, I hope mine looks half as good!
