GDMorti reacted to Paggeldiwwer in Propose on TFA: Admiral
Our dear Elevator-friend does not seem to be an Admiral because of the missing red line in the rank-insignia. Those insignia do Point him to be a General. But his uniform does not match. His uniform Looks pretty much the same as the Admiral from TFA. And now we have some pants-reference at least for TLJ:
His double breast still has this crappy-looking, ill-fitting, not-matching line there on the right ...
Somehow I come to the conclusion, they just re-used some of the background-uniforms from TFA for some officers running around the Supremacy to look busy. What do you think?

I think first port of call is seeing if we get any clarity on the rank? If they're both Admiral then yeah we can just allow both? No need for any separate configurations, since we don't see anything different in TFA (since we barely see any of them at all).
Suggestion:
Move forward with a black wrap-over uniform with the pointed pants. First Order Admiral. Allow both of the rank bars. If we find out later that the TLJ version with no red on his rank bars is a different rank, we just amend the rank bar information and title of the CRL (if possible?) so that it's like the Lieutenant/Captain and Colonel/Major where the only difference is a rank bar.

Only issue there is we already have a generic FO General CRL.
If the generic General isn't Hux's uniform, then the entire generic FO General as we know it, needs completely reworking?

GDMorti reacted to kman in First Order Security Sealed Officer's Datapad
Definitely! They took the time to make the thing, and dedicated photos and space to it in the VG. It would be astounding it it's truly not listed ANYWHERE else.

VD is canon though -so while I understand this, if we go that route then anything not on screen (Comics for example) is out as well.
Scale is needed yes - but I haven’t sat down and watched the deleted scenes yet and I think that’s where they are.

GDMorti got a reaction from Tentayena in First Order Security Sealed Officer's Datapad
The junior officer outside of the elevator is holding something completely different. It's listed just above her photo in the visual dictionary, I think.
The little pointy arrow pointing at the thing in her arms lists it as: Operations Division status datapad.
The bigger top-down photo in the visdic just above her is the chunky thing called a First Order Encoder Pad.
They do look very similar, and not much like the datapad we're looking at in this post.
The security sealed datapad which has been so wonderfully recreated here, appears next to Finn later on in the visual dictionary. Unfortunately it's not in anyones hands so we can't get much of an idea of scale. It's also only listed as: "security sealed officers datapad" so no restriction on rank.
If we're going to see this anywhere, it'll be in the background of a scene, or possibly when Finn Rose and DJ are apprehended on the Supremacy? It appears on the same set of pages as the FOSB so that might be a good hint?

Someone better Disneybound this, I swear to god

If they can't get along at Disney then there is no hope for the relationship tbh.

Love this! I found it hard keeping up with Thrawn (and Vanto's) rise in rank through the book, so the timeline is super useful!

GDMorti reacted to Tentayena in Ranks in "Thrawn" **Spoilers**
Here we go!
It's saved my life several times with writing and getting things straight
The same person also put together this AWESOME timeline for the events of the book and how they interact with the rest of the canon
However since it basically tells the whole plot of the book, I'm just gonna leave it as a link here and keep spoilers at a minimum for people who haven't read it yet

GDMorti reacted to Tentayena in Ranks in "Thrawn" **Spoilers**
There's actually a really cool chart that I found when the novel first came out that lined up their ranks with when they got promoted. I'll have to see if I can dig it up again, if you'd like it, but it was really helpful for keeping things straight in my head lol

So excited for this book...
And **KINDA SPOILER**
Very interested to learn about Batuu, as this is going to be the planet that Galaxy's Edge is going to be on.

***ALSO KIND OF SPOILER***
I can't believe Palpatine is just sending Vader and Thrawn to Disney World

GDMorti got a reaction from rattleandburn in Propose on TFA: Admiral
While fair, since it's not a definite just yet, I'm just... uncomfortable with having one without a rank? If that makes sense? Since all the others for FO follow that sort of pattern!

Eli Vanto is perfect and has never done one thing wrong in his whole life.
I feel that though. I tried to get through the Aftermath series and i STRUGGLED. Ended up just skipping to the last one, which actually worked better than expected. Whereas Thrawn just FLEW. I think the plane ride to Celeb helped though lol
More than willing to send you a copy if you need!! The B&N cover was my fav out of all of them tbh

GDMorti reacted to Vanto in Excerpt from Thrawn: Alliances
I don't know what you're talking about, I've clearly never cared about Ensign Vanto once in my life.
But yeah, I've heard that about Aftermath. Admittedly, I haven't read a ton of the new canon, but I grew up reading the EU. I thought Thrawn did a really good job of that though, with enough references to make the older fans happy but a new enough story to be able to stand alone also. Going out to the Unknown Regions in the new canon will be interesting though since there won't be anything to contradict whatever Zahn wants to write.
...if we get the flashback of Thrawn meeting Anakin, there's a possibility of Obi-Wan content. Or Ahsoka!!

I for one blame Ensign Vanto.
Seriously though, I've STRUGGLED with a lot of StarWars lit in the past. I really want to choke my way through Aftermath because of obvious ginger reasons, however thin on the ground they are, but its just such a bloody chew to read? It's so clunky? Thrawn just read like an absolute DREAM with minimal "you must be this much Star Wars to ride".
I need to get off my ass and finish the Heir trilogy... I'm super hyped for Alliance though and really jealous that you'll all get fancy B&N hardback covers as usual. :C

GDMorti reacted to Vanto in Excerpt from Thrawn: Alliances
I think Thrawn is actually one of the few SW books I've read but don't actually own... I just stole @Tentayena's when he made me read it lolol and now look at what I've become.

GDMorti reacted to Hux in Propose on TFA: Admiral
Aye. I'm just very adamant about it being called something else other than his 'rank'. ^.-
Thanks luvs for all your hard work,

I don't even think I've cracked the spine of my Celebration copy of Thrawn. I went and bought a regular copy to actually read. XD Fancy special edition Thrawn is safely tucked away on a bookshelf somewhere to likely never bee touched again.
Action figures and toys I'll open and mess around with. Books? Books are serious business!

GDMorti reacted to rattleandburn in Excerpt from Thrawn: Alliances
lol I spent a good couple months trying to get my husband to read Thrawn, and he finally did and went right for the Celebration copy and I made an incoherent BWAAHHHHH noise of 'don't do that' and he swiftly put it down and hasn't tried to read it since. Whoops.
-
GDMorti reacted to Vanto in Excerpt from Thrawn: Alliances
That's my hope!! But yeah I agree, with just the Chimaera, it'd be a great excuse to bring in the CEDF. Just like,,, imagine Thrawn trying to contact the CEDF and getting Eli just by coincidence. (Coincidence? Or the Force™?)
I wonder if we'll get any mentions of Pellaeon since he was mentioned in the S4 finale... although he's probably on one of the other ships in the fleet, a boy can dream lol.
As much as I love the old canon for Thrawn, I'm really enjoying the new canon, and I am STOKED for this book.

I cracked it enough to swap the book jackets of the B&N and the celebration one
Because I kept getting unnerved by the celebration one staring at me from my bookshelf
But i have one perfect signed celeb copy, my normal one to drag around, the one that has the celeb book jacket that I hid under more books, and the audiobook......
