I think "all sides should be the same length" is acceptable and allows for the patch to be as big or as small as required for the wearer, yet not look visually off by having squished sides etc.

I've managed to get my hands on a Clothears in the past and the construction and fabric choice is exemplary. My vote is with them, if money isn't an issue.  But I will also admit I've never seen a Magnoli costume in person!

I very much love this costume. Heck, I just love all FO costumes, lets face it. I'd love nothing more than to see yet more FO CRL's hit the shelves.

    However.

This costume is extremely lacking in visual reference. We've absolutely no idea how it looks from behind. We can -presume- it looks the same as the Majors? I'd accept that. We also have no idea about whats going on below the waist. We're -told- by the actor that Admirals, or at the very least he in that particular scene, wore the wrap around pants. Not the pointed flares which I'd put money on everyone assuming Admirals would wear due to the tunic matching the Major, so surely the pants would match too? Apparently not. This as a costume decision really just confuses me. I'm fairly certain that the waist-up shot of the actor in the uniform shows a very poorly fit costume. However, consider: You only see him in this costume for that one scene on the stage, and a big flappy cape thing is hiding 80% of that costume. Pin the tunic in place, pin that belt, have him stand a certain way and not move. Tada! Looks immaculate. Those capes are a very clever costume department trick of kitting out a sea of extras in a mishmash of costume pieces, and hiding whether or not they fit (possibly even whether or not they're wearing the right pants for the uniform!)  under a shapeless cape.

Check out that audience, boost the colours. There are Lieutenants/Captains in grey, Majors/Colonels in teal, and further dudes in black. I think that some of them are wearing the cape? So the cape might not be a rank thing? I'd put money on that being a clever costume department trick to cover up inaccuracies and poorly fitted costumes for the extras who you will see for a split second in a big crowd scene. That's just an observation of course, but it's interesting to think about! EDIT: it also saves the poor costume department having to make woollen greatcoats for everyone BUT still captures the aesthetic of Hux's coat at a fraction of the material cost and time.

Then there's the cape itself. Which we see "sort of" from the front, and "sort of" from the back. No up close shots, no idea at all of the seams. What's it made of? Is it lined? How stiff exacly are those shoulder board thingies. If we have to squint really hard, blow up contrasts, if they aren't clear, then I would say it doesn't qualify as a solid enough reference. We have a small written description of the cape from the actor himself but again, I honestly think we'd need more than that.

In the past, CRL decisions have been made based on guess work, presumptions and "Logical extrapolation", and that got us in a world of mess. XD I'd accept that "logically" the seams on the black Admiral would very, very likely match those of the Major. So we can cross that off the list. We see in the waist-up shot of the actor in his costume, the rank bar on his arm. And he says he was playing an Admiral, and that's what the Admiral rank bar looks like in the book. That is, absolutely, categorically, an Admiral's tunic. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I accept that Admirals wear the wrap-around pants. If we're going on "logical" arguments, logically he SHOULD be in the pointy Major-style pants! What the actor tells us about the wrap pants defies logic! Honestly? I believe that to be a wardrobe issue, looking at the state of his belt, considering where exactly he stood in the speech scene, how much of the pants were visible. Costume team probably went: "How much does it matter that he's not wearing these pants, do we even want to make them in black?" You never see a decent close up shot of the Admirals in the same way you see the Majors, which I believe is the only reason Majors ever got their fancy blue pants with the pointy flares. They HAD to make them for those shots, so they did. I'm uncomfortable releasing a CRL when we've zero clear visual confirmation on what style of pants he's wearing, let alone what they look like re: seams and fabric etc. If the design followed the -logic- of the Majors, in that they were pointy flares, then the logic stream would flow that they were constructed the same. I'd accept that. Wraps? Throw me off completely. The cape is, I would say, clearly an optional accessory, and one which I believe could be opened up to ALL sub-General staff (unless we can see it on Generals in the crowd too?) but I'm absolutely not cool with releasing it until we have better confirmation on its design with more visuals to work from. In my eyes it reminds me a lot of when military staff have to go on parade but it's raining. So they're issued those silly little shower cap things to protect their hats. They all had to go and stand in the "quad" for the shouty ginger man to yell at them, pomp and circumstance, BEST UNIFORMS ON EVERYONE! But it's cold outside and so they were all issued these little cape thingies to keep them warm? XD Idk. I'm trying to rationalise Star Wars, never ends well.

BF2 has been utterly riddled with inaccuracies when it comes to replicating costumes from movie sources. As mentioned earlier in this thread the developers probably didn't have as much access to the costumes themselves as we'd think, since its possible they've ordered a Cosplaysky uniform to look at and get reference from!
They -are- canon costumes and I -do- believe that they warrant their own CRLs. Unfortunately I also believe that they're different enough from everything we've seen before that we need to try to recreate them as they appear on-screen (screen being computer and tv screens as you play!). Warts and all. It's a toss-up between whether a "change" or deviation from the source material was intentional or not, but there are definitely a lot of mistakes made. Whether through not knowing any better since the developers probably aren't as hot for accuracy and detail as we are, or through time restraints meaning that re-using or "just get a close approximation" of assets was warranted in order to make the games release date.

Concerning the pattern of that tunic (which is awful) and the FO-style pants, I can imagine putting these to Level 2 or 3. A uniform like this must be manufactured since sources like CosplaySky only offer the common one. And I do not think one would spend on a customized uniform looking as ... odd as this one.

In my humble opinion the regular uniform would fit for the basic approval together with the armor and helmet. Everything more like the game-model might be L2/L3.

    Oh sure, that's definitely
That's for MMORPG's where a character's armor and appearance can be changed with different armor, clothing, etc such as Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars Galaxies. A character such as the BF2 Officer always looks the same regardless of level or equipment. The only thing that ever changes is the weapons. For example we have the Swamp Trooper from Star Wars Galaxies because no matter what you did he always had the same outward appearance. It never changed. But there this rule precludes someone from making a CRL of their own player character because those characters could have their appearance customized.

This is my proposed CRL originally posted in the Spec Ops forums under the Imperial Army sub-forum for the original trilogy Battlefront II Officer (link). Since this character falls into both detachments - the character is part of the Imperial Army but is also a junior officer - I think it's a good idea to post it here as well. Perhaps it'll be an dual-detachment CRL.

    Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

    Helmet
    For 501st approval:
Open face helmet consisting of a dome (with rim) and helmet skirt.  Helmet is based on the shell of the Snowtrooper / Snow Cmdr. and the AT-ST Driver. The helmet is painted a Grey-Green or Gray color. A "Rangefinder" is attached to the helmet dome.  This is centered to the right side of the dome and aligned to the rim. The rangefinder consists of :  Rectangular box about h/l/d 1.85" (47mm), 1.65" (42mm), 0.4" (10.16mm) with a slight bevel and details on. The box is the same color as the helmet. 1 screw cap or cylindrical knob approx. 0.4" (10.16mm) in diameter in the upper left corner. 2 cylindrical pins lined up in the lower left corner of the box. 1 cylindrical pin in the upper right corner of the box. 1 Rangefinder main detail aligned at the lower right corner of the box. Ring shaped antenna on top of the box with about 1.5" (38.1mm) in diameter and 0.35" (9mm) depth being cut at the top. There are 5 flat rectangular clips, positioned equally around the helmet where the dome meets the skirt. (1 in the center, 2 on each side).  The clips are painted the same color as the helmet. Imperial Code Disks are positioned on both sides of the helmet skirt. There are 6 circular greeblies positioned equally around the bottom of the helmet skirt (3 on each side). Greeblies have a flat top are approximately 18mm x 2mm in size. A black trim is covering the edge of the helmet skirt and forehead of the dome. Trim is approximately 5mm to 7mm in size. Silver/metallic cylindrical 'Spine shaped Greeblie' bar in the rear center of the helmet skirt.  The bar is divided into 11 segments with the thicker 6 segments ideally fitting into the 6 depressions of the rear helmet skirt.
    Goggles
    For 501st approval:
Black trimmed military style goggles, with a Light Gray/Tan strap.
For level two certification (if applicable):
Goggles are angular, and not rounded in shape. Strap is light Gray, and approx 1.5cm in width, with a small buckle on both sides.
For level three certification (if applicable):
Both buckles to have a small cut-out section at the rear.
    Tunic

    Chest Armor
    For 501st approval:
Chest Armor matches visual references. Accurate shape/design to front of chest. Outer rim has a continuous trim edge. As well as a raised trim on the recessed box. Shoulder straps are Stormtrooper style and secured to the chest armor with glue. There should be no visible rivets or screws. Rear of shoulder strap secured to an under-strap. Under strap is olive green, made of nylon or poly webbing, at least 40mm wide, with no distinguishable stitching at least. Two circular greeblies are present on each strap where the webbing meets the plastic should bridges. 21mm Dual Lock Fasteners with a brass brad fastener through the middle is most accurate. Under strap connects to lower chest / rib strapping as described below. The front recessed box includes several detail pieces. One T-shaped slider knob greeblie is present and matches the provided image. Slider is painted gunmetal or olive green. Left of the slider knob is an olive green raised rectangular piece with a notch cut out matching the provided image.  This effect can be accomplished with a decal. Right-hand side of chest has an elongated rectangular strip with three rectangles attached, spaced equidistantly. This piece is glued onto the armor. No visible attachments (ie. rivets) are permitted. Left-hand side of chest has two oblong shaped details which protrude outwards. They are offset and staggered from one another, one being more forward. Lower Chest / Rib strapping. Made of nylon or poly webbing at least 40mm wide. Elastic is Authorized. Strapping runs from one lower corner of the armor around the lower back just above the belt and connects to the other lower corner of the armor Strapping is visibly one continuous piece and secured hidden behind the chest armor. Strapping from shoulders connects to the lower chest strapping and is stitched. No other visible methods are permitted (ie. buckles, snaps).
    Rank Buttons
    For 501st approval:
Worn on the top left section of the chest.  Rank consists of colored plastic tiles, mounted onto a rectangle or square which is then secured to the armor.  Tile buttons should match Imperial Army rank configuration - red tiles over blue. Two rows, no more than four tiles per row.  Rank tiles are translucent. Colour, quantity & combinations are determined by rank.
    Belt
    For 501st approval:

    Breeches
    For 501st approval:
Fabric is a light to medium weight suiting material exactly matching the tunic. Flared riding breeches have subtle, semi-stiff flares in the hip/thigh area, below the tunic and above the knee. Breeches are worn with tall, knee-high boots. Pockets and waist belts are acceptable, although are not visible with the tunic on. Stirrups may be attached to the leg bottoms to keep material tightly tucked into the boots
For level two certification (if applicable):
There is a fold on the legs creased from back to front, directly below the jodhpurs flares, tucking tightly into the boots, over the knees.

    Officer Boots
    For 501st approval:
Knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or leather-like material, with moderate to high-gloss shine. There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration. Holster is worn on the right side and is attached to the leather belt at one end under the belt armor and at on the other end at the hip. No visible stitching, buckles, or snaps are seen making these attachments.
    Optional Accessories
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below.

GDMorti reacted to Samwise in Optional accessories - Poncho AND gloves? Just poncho? Questions!
I'm working on making all the modifications I need to my Imperial Officer boots & Cosplay Skye uniform. My GML said I should just finish up and get approved then worry about my accessories. So I'm doing just that! But I wanted to get some clarification before I spend money on gloves.

    1. I'm drafting a poncho for when I finish, and I planned to wear it most of the time at conventions. In Rogue One the staff officers (black) that are seen in ponchos appear to be wearing gloves with the poncho. Does this indicate that I MUST wear gloves with my poncho at all times? Would it be acceptable to go glove-less in my poncho, depending on the weather?

    2. The staff officers in Rogue One who wear gloves with their ponchos also appear to be wearing a different type of glove than the staff officers on the Death Star in ANH. (Rain gloves maybe?)
    https://i.imgur.com/XlwZnlp.png
So my question is - since I will only ever be wearing gloves occasionally with my poncho, would it make sense to buy this type of glove, that does not have the flared gauntlet look, to better match what fans saw on screen? Or do I need to stay true to the glove example in the CRL even though it is less accurate with the poncho?

Sorry if that seems confusing. Gloves range from $20-$40 which is a lot for something that I plan to wear just sometimes. (mostly for photo shoots and cold troops!) So I want to ensure I buy the correct pair my garrison will be happy with!

I soaked mine in hot water for like 30 minutes and used some clamps leftover from my TK build to clamp the loop tight until it dried - it sits much more flush now. I also have a pretty heavy WampaWear buckle (it's gorgeous but thick!) so that helps. I have some industrial velcro on the back of my buckle and the top of the little tail end of my belt - the velcro probably does most of the work of keeping the belt on, not the little tab. I wear belt boxes, a blaster, and occasionally a small pouch for cards and cell phone and I haven't had issues with my belt staying together. Glue would probably work, but I'd be wary. Try hot water and clamps first, IMO.

Thanks for those. They do highlight my prior point though, that when the generic is standing in warm, low light as per some of the Hask cutscenes, the greys look very similar. I wont, I -can't- say that they're the same. As we don't know. They are two separate model jobs since they made the generic a petite woman. We will never get the chance to see Hask's model perform the same way that the generics do, under the same sorts of conditions. Not enough colour difference really to warrant an entirely separate CRL.

So there's a lot of work ahead for us to create all those new CRL's. But it would honor the IOC to create all these specific CRL's. Look at the Clone Trooppers Detachment: they have such a large amount of CRL's for each and every kind of trooper-color-shemes. So why should we not be able to do the same?

So those that may like to discuss a Possible CRL for either of these options, Please, discuss away.  This is the first step only.

If they are a different grey, then the colour is barely a few shades, not enough to warrant a new CRL.
I've been watching gameplay footage, as discussed on the previous thread yesterday. In shade and non-direct overhead lighting, the colours are barely imperceptible. It's why my draft incorporated "The Battlefront 2 First Order Uniform" because they're the same, I would argue. I would highly recommend folks check out the two youtube video links I posted in the previous thread and see how the "fabric" of the generic uniform behaves in shade. It does get quite dark! We never see Hask dashing across the plains of Jakku, or bopping around on Takodana, so it's not possible to say his uniform would behave the same way. We -can- see how the generics behave in shade and low-light. I'm still digging for hi quality footage of the officers on Starkiller as it's a less warmly-lit map with hopefully some low-lit interior areas to get some more comparisons.

For Hask to receive his own named character CRL when a generic is identical, considering a Lieutenant Mitaka CRL was submitted, altered into a "generic Lieutenant with caveat for Mitaka appearance" after LMO discussion with the CRL model, and then published with zero appearance caveats for any named officers (same for Major/Col.) then the precedent here has been set.

It's the same uniform, same seams, same accessories (multiplayer generics have access to a handful of other pistol options). Hask is just another dude in the same uniform as all other FO in Battlefront 2. It was suggested in the prior thread that Hask be added as a Level 2/3 clearance level for those wishing to emulate specific officers/characters, which is what was also suggested for the FO Lieutenant and Major.

If this is how new CRL's for uniforms worn by multiple persons are being created and released, then I feel that the precedent has to stick all the way through.

Just my personal opinion, but chalk holders seem to do the job. They're a quick, cheap, easy to obtain fix for a faffy part of certain costumes.
And this is coming from me! I'm normally a big stickler for accuracy! So long as the cylinders are -present- and you've made an effort to match the tops (painted blue for Krennic etc) and the clip (brass or silver etc) then I don't see the issue?

This is pushbuttons required for basic all over again, when plexiglass works completely fine and they are far more widely manufactured. And even then, the list of trusted makers of plexi-plaques is still a short one.

I feel that stuff like this is absolutely what the level 2 and 3 req's are for. All components and design elements of a costume should be present at level one, with a "good enough" bar set for quality. Level 2 you can start requiring screen used -or- exact replicas. Level 3 for the crazies who want to fork out £30+ each for actual dosis, if they can even find them.

Lets not make this any harder than it really needs to be? This is an expensive hobby at the best of times.
