dcx13 got a reaction from AgnesAUT in BOOTS (Yes, I know this is a well beaten topic already...)
I am 1 more failed purchase away from just burning my uniforms & quitting on the idea of an officer character. Who sells a proper tall boot, leather, no zippers, with the adjustment strap - I'm doing a non-saga officer, so the strap is allowed - that actually fits a height-weight proportionate, damn near textbook average-sized guy, that is a true 10.5-11 (44/45)?
I have gotten 3 pairs from Hessen, all wrong in one way or another, and a gaggle of vintage boots that may be labeled as 10.5 or 11 but they have the instep & width of a child's shoe.
Crow Props are just as bad. The foot is too small, and the claves are grossly oversized, even though specific exact measurements were provided. I am hesitant to try Keep Trooping (imperial Boots) based on the issue I had with Crow; i.e. sending measurements & getting something grossly out of proportion.
And internet searches just bring me back to Hessen, or to a myriad of "equestrian" boots that are all Spanish cut, so they have the taller outside edge. I am sitting here, next to 5 pairs of boots, from various vendors, and all are wrong in size, in one fashion or another. The one pair that do/did fit just ripped the cloth pull-on straps out of the side, and tore the side open in the process. I have 2 officer builds that can not be submitted for approval until I can find some proper boots.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am so over it at this point, I am truly considering throwing out all the officer stuff.

I’m so torn with this, despite my last post.
I agree that the intent of the costume is that the officers are wearing regular riding boots. In saying that though, it’s clear from the references that not all of them are.
As a serving military member, I can say that sometimes we have options with footwear. There are the issued boots which all look the same, and we can also go out and buy boots that are actually comfortable to wear as long as they meet the safety guidelines and look similar. I don’t wear my issued boots and if someone were to look closely they would see that.
What I’m saying is that in a real world situation it’s not uncommon to see some variation in footwear.
In this case though it’s obviously a budget issue, stores availability, time restriction or something like that. I don’t think the average person was ever meant to notice, but we are hardly the average person here!
I think I’ve come around on the FO boots. But if they are to be included I vote that should only be permissible at the basic level, nothing higher.
But that’s just my (amended) two cents.

dcx13 reacted to vonmoen in Imperial Army Troopers
Well I picked up a copy of the Star Wars Imperial Handbook a while back and was reading through it to learn a bit more about the Imperial Army, which is under represented in the movies. Page 64 of the handbook briefly discusses the 4 basic variations of the Army uniform and unfortunately (for me, at least) only show illustrations of the 2 Vehicle command Crewers (AT-AT and AT-ST). Page forward to page 86 which depicts an Imperial Garrison and it appears to show a large group of troopers with helmets and armor carrying blasters.
I really like the concept of an Imperial Infantry Trooper, the lowest, most basic member of the Military. My question is; are there any other examples of Imperial Army Troopers in the wide world of the Star Wars universe other than what I've found in the handbook? And if so, how many examples would be needed to be considered for the possibility of approval by the 501st?

No uts different material from the muddy/icat
Apparently we were meant to have the shin greaves but they had broke loads of them by the tike they came to film in Scotland, possible they may show up elsewhere in the series but that was just what I was told on set when I asked
Middle with the helmet on

at the moment it is a static sheet but i prepare different holders inside to be replaceable. so you can add your preferred device.
i will create an iOS application to get the right screens but can not do this for android tablets.

The best thing about strict gun laws in Australia is that 99% of the population can go their entire lives without seeing a real gun...
The worst thing about strict gun laws in Australia is that customs will confiscate pretty much anything that looks like a real gun...
So forget about airsoft for props...
Sometimes you have to make do with what you can get...
Modelled and printed some bits...
Found a toy online that is mostly suitable...
Checking the layout for scale...
Base coat down...
Weathered and chipped...
This ol' girl has seen some action...
Now I have to do some bluing on the emitter...
and add the 'din' scope...
and decide if I want a coiled or straight scope cord...
And then I have to make an 'Andor' style holster...
Feel free to point out all the non-canon bits... have at it...

Worry about getting chewed out by your commanding officer, perhaps, but it's there, in-universe, as far as that's concerned LOL
And yes, walking around a troop with a cup of caf is a joy.

It is in all of the non saga CRLs.
We put it in there to raise awareness and enshrine it.
But if someone has a problem with you carrying a coffee cup, good lord that person needs to get a grip.

Jim Tipton Light Gray Uniform Top
Now, it is difficult solo setting up your color levels when you, the model, are not standing in front of the DSLR and you are setting color settings via the backdrop color. Probably a better way to do this would be to take the jacket off and on a stand, set my camera triangle, then put it back on but I had already put everything on when I thought of that. Really need an assistant.
I can tell you, in my opinion, particularly when outside it looks pretty close to the screenshots. I could always put more lights on it inside but regrettably I do not have any area where I live with higher than just a foot'ish above my head. All low ceilings. I included the indoor and outdoor, non-adjusted Color Corrector Cards. Difficult to say without an inside person, what lighting they used on set.
Think the outdoor shot was overexposed slightly but again, needed an assistant.
Fluorescent Lights - 8' ceiling - (Plus Camera Flash)

dcx13 reacted to TripleFett in Andor Non Saga Updates
Hi! I've been working on joining the IOC with ISB in Andor and wanted to bring up the tunic color. I got all my soft parts from Jim Tripon and wanted to show photos of what it looks like; though now I wish I got actual photos in natural light and not office lights. I know the CRL states "Fabric should be a medium weight, white suiting material" for the Tunic but based on @kman and other's comments from before, seems like there is a range of white - warm white, etc that is acceptable.
I'd describe Jim's tunic to be light grey if I had to choose a color and he mentioned that he did his research and got details from someone who worked in the costume department that confirmed the fabric was light grey. Is that all true? I hope so but can't be sure so wanted to get y'all's thoughts here. And pardon the pose in the full body photo; I'm use to holding a blaster so I didn't know what to do with my hands.

dcx13 got a reaction from vonmoen in How do you choose rank insignia?
I think the closest representation we got so far were the two scouts waiting around for entry into Nevarro. But at least they nailed the description for the WO in the CRL: "Warrant Officers, serving generally as non-commissioned enlisted officers, do not have a specific task as other ranks do. These officers instead specialize in particular fields that other crew members have little or no knowledge of." Although they forgot the part about mysteriously disappearing prior to any mandatory formations.

dcx13 reacted to vonmoen in How do you choose rank insignia?
Yeah, it's a pity that enlisted ranks got overlooked in the Star Wars sagas. I'd like to see more representation in the NCO ranks as well, although I believe a few showed up in the Imperial Army in the Andor series. And just for the record, Dan, I earned my sham shield back in 1977.

dcx13 got a reaction from vonmoen in How do you choose rank insignia?
I'm kind of in the same boat... Dan. So it's a Lieutenant rank for me!
Unrelated, but still kinda sorta related... Is there a SW equivalent of the "E-4 Mafia" in terms of characters or ranks? Or at least a Pvt. Snuffy? I know @vonmoen must know the answer to this! Don't leave a 19E/19K hanging!

That actually happened to an old Sergeant I knew while stationed in Germany back in the day.
-
dcx13 reacted to vonmoen in How do you choose rank insignia?
I figure the rank should match the relative age of the member. A young member in their early 20s would more likely be of a lower rank (IE, cadet or Lieutenant) while members of a certain age (ice age, like me) would probably hold a senior rank like Colonel or General. I think it would be rather odd to find a 20 year old Admiral in the ranks, but there's no real reason that you can't.

dcx13 reacted to merlyn in What are Jackboots?
If you are searching the German ebay pages for boots there are some key words to use.
The German word for boot is Stiefel.
The German word for leather is Leder. Don't be fooled by synthleder that's the not leather stuff.
NVA stands for Nationale Volksarmee and was the name used for the armed forces of the GDR. ( East Germany before the reunification)
knobelbecher ( will get you mainly the boots used for TIE pilots, the ones with the straps at the calf)
Seestiefel ( same as above but because people call the boots by different names it brings up different offers)
NVA Parade Stiefel ( this search will bring you the taller, straight shaft parade boots with no strap at the calf, these boots are generally shorter than riding boots but taller than knobelbecher although some people call them the same thing)
NVA Stiefel ( same as above but a broader search parameter)
Schaft stiefel ( this search will get you straight legged boots from right across the board. It's the broadest word you can use to search for the kind of boots most of the people here look for)
offizier stiefel (This brings you officer boots from also right across the board and also from across many time periods and countries)
Reitstiefel ( this is the word for riding boots and this is what you will get)
This page ( all in German) has an excellent size chart at the bottom for the various sizes ( normal EU, Bundeswehr, US, Uk and it will help navigate some of the standard sizes you will see. If you are looking for riding boots or officer's boots you also need to consider calf width this is known as Wadenweite in German so if you are looking at boots this is the word to look for and the measurements will always be given in CM as Europe doesn't do inches.
https://www.freudenberg-shop.de/shop_content.php/coID/15/item/14 Please note I'm not advertising this shop, it just has the best comparison table.
By riding boots you will seriously need to watch out for synthetics as there are a lot of those mixed in with the leather ones. You can search for echt leder ( real leather) and that will narrow it down a lot.
I hope this helps a bit.
