"Best" is subjective, but I've used a combo of models from gucabe and seankfields in the past, and been happy with the results.  I don't usually print the main blaster, however... that's a huge PITA and always somehow lacking, IMO.  I like hacking up cheap plastic airsoft mausers.  They're plentiful, inexpensive, and have moulded plastic far superior to what you get with 3D printing, and save a ton of work.  Then just 3D print the add-on bits.  (much like the original prop guys added on various bits to existing pistols)

This thread of mine is old, but might have some useful ideas for you (it covers using both the Denix and the plastic mausers):

That is a great build. Am looking into the Denix as well nowdays and might just go with that route. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Having had plenty of good troops in the good old classic line officer, I feel its soon time to step it up and try something new and this time with a sidearm.

Being a huge fan os the ISB, I was glad to see its non-saga crl allowing sidearms and aim (no pun intended) to go with the Merr-Sonn, seeing as I prefer its  classical pistol-look and never really been a fan of the SE-14.

However, I noticed that the crl states specificly that the wire is to be straight instead of coiled.

Now I ask out to you all out there. Has anyone got one of this version? Any ideas/suggestions? Should I try aquire a regular Merr and replace the wire and if so, what type of wire would be best in size?

Thanks in advance for any Hints & tips.

    Those officers hurt my soul.

Double row rank bars on black uniform.  Rogue One sized tiles.

    Belts on backwards.  Belt boxes.

That holster is kinda tight tho.  Surprised it's so different looking than the mimban one.

The wheel of officer wardrobe confusion takes yet another turn.

In-universe explanation: Empire collapsing, local warlords setting up their own rank/uniform system etc.

Behind the scenes: "Ah we'll just take whatevers left from R1/Solo, mix and match on each actor and call it a day."

Imperial officers and their uniform accessories just cant seem to get a break.

Least thats my 2 cents of it. Still, an absolutely great show.

  4. Doing well, so far. Still at my workplace ( warehouseman ) as the job I'm at has not yet closed down completely, so no home quarantine for my part, yet.

Still alot of the office staff is working from home with only a few brave souls coming in a few days a week. Orders need to be delivered in and out, after all.
Taking it day by day and follows each development.

    And Im feeling trooping-starvation!

I dont want to swamp or take over this thread, but for now, I thought Id photo dump a bunch of screen grabs of Moff Gideon I took and some features I've noticed:

^ boots look to have a flat sole on them, possibly meaning they were re-used FO officer boots?? Not 100% sure. Also, inside of cape is lined with red, and he is wearing fingerless TIE gauntlets

    UIVpKyi.jpg

^Close up of the chest armor. Is a modified/simplified Veers-style officer chest armor with TIE chestbox style markings. Hard to tell if the grey and white rockers are actually real and raised or if theyre just for show. Red and white circles are slightly indented. There also appears to be two intents at the top-center of the armor

    SSMxFP6.jpg

^ Full body shot. Also shows red lining of cape. Hard to see in all lighting, so you may need to adjust your monitor, but it appears as though the black uniform he wears underneath the armor has a trim of slightly different color or material than the "main" fabric. Also he is wearing an Obi(?) style belt with a metal disk in the center. You can kind of see it, but he also has a blaster.

^Just for fun, here is the concept art for Moff Gideon. I kinda wish they used the belt seen here, but thats just me personally. This can't be used for any real guidance in the construction of the CRL. Its just for fun.

I agree, I do prefer this version of Gideon's uniform and do wish it the final apperance had been more closer to this.
The final costumes belt looks a bit loose imo and the holster hangs a bit too far down for my taste.

still, if a Ralph Mcquarrie concept stormtrooper can be approved, perhaps there is hope for this one too in the future

  6. Since March, a new series called Darth Vader: Dark Visions has been continously released.

Good and well written, they show Vader as his persona and powers are widely known within the Empire. However, they also bring out some rather extreme cases of insanity among the imperial staff.

Issue nr 1 is a good read. It tells the story of a humanoid alien who witnesses Vader crash land on the aliens homeworld and awakens an enormous monster who the dark lord then fights in an almost medival knight vs dragon tale:

Issue nr 2: Well here we go....an Imperial Star Destroyer captain goes absolutely haywire crazy in his desperate attempt to capture a rebel U-wing. You thought the imperial fleet chasing the Falcon in ESB into an asteroid field was crazy? See for yourself...

Issue nr 3: And boy oh boy this done had me in stiches. In short, an imperial nurse falls in LOVE with Vader. Yep, you heard right folks. Essentially, she goes Harley Quinn-level of crazy over him:

Could issue 2 and 3 be possible future CRL? "Line officer gone bonkers" & "Imperial Love-crazy Nurse?" xD

  7. ID-10587 had everything under control at the SciFiWorld Convention in Helsingborg, Sweden. That is until something went very wrong, most likely involving Rebels and despite his best attempts at explain to Lord Vader, the outcome was pretty much set. However, I did get the chance to leave a report to General Veers himself and have him sign my "datapad"

  8. While promoting the premier for TLJ, I was attending as my Line officer and a colleague was dressed as Staff officer.

As we're standing in the hallway leading to the cinema halls, I hear two youths pointing at us and one of them saying: "There they are, the police." On the same evening, I also overheard a guy pointing at one of our TK's E-11 and saying to his friend/girlfriend: "Look. Thats an AK-47." I just rolled my eyes and realised he was REALLY trying to impress her.

At the premier for Solo, we were in another cinema and as it was late spring/early summer it was amazing weather outside. So me, and the same colleague as before, decide to step outside to do some better promoting, one of the first who sees us is a woman in her 60's or so. She looks at us and her face just grows more and more concerned and as they pass by, I overhear her saying to her company: ".....yes but I am just wondering what THEY are doing there?". She must have thought us to be some kind of actual police/authority force that was conducting a raid on the cinema building or similiar :-P

  9. I've always admired and enjoyed looking at military uniforms, probably that aura of authority they create.

And as a member in the Swedish Home Guard, I do feel extra comfortable in uniform.

So it felt like a very natural call to have my first 501st costume be an officer.

Also, with ESB being my favorite SW movie and seeing the officers behave so well around the Star Destroyer bridges, I guess thats another factor that sold me :)

  10. ID-10587 and ID-19013 of the Nordic Garrison butt heads at the SciFiWorld Convention, Gothenburg, Sweden, 17-02-2018 & 18-02-2018

"May I remind you, commander, that this is MY Star Destroyer! And you and your group of bucketheads are making a mess out the crew quarters!"

"Yeah but its my "bucketheads" that are making the big difference on the battlefield while you and your pompus up-nosed crew just sit back and sleep through the entire battle!"

    "How dare you?!" *Fighting ensues*

  11. Just been to my 1st convention as an offical 501st member.

It was at SciFiWorld - The Scandinavian Sci-Fi, Game & Film Convention, a convention I've attended to for several years now, enjoyed greatly and had the chance to pick up signed photographs from various actors while they've been there as guests.

So it was, of course, very special to attend this year not as a visitor but as part of the convention itself along with my unit: Nordic Garrison, as well as having the chance to meet more fellow members. We also had none other than Daniel Naprous (Darth Vader, Rogue One) as guest this year, which was a great moment for us.

Happily providing a link of the Sci-fiWorld in case anyone happens to be going to Scandinavia soon: http://www.scifiworld.se/index_M2018.html

And of course, cant have an Imperial garrison around without a little internal drama among Officers. So here's ID-10587 and ID-19013 in a heated argument about....something.

  12. I do my uttermost to try and enjoy this game but it is hard, really hard. Issues such as lag on servers and unbalanced classes helps even less.

EA has now shot themselves in the foot big time.

Only reason I still play it is because its a Star Wars game, basicly and I enjoy playing from a basic soldiers POV more than heroes now and then.

The type was huge for this game and the hopes that it would fare better than its 2015 predecessor through a, what we were promised, exciting campaing from the Imperial POV along with great gameplay improvements.

What a bunch of well-written bunch of lies that was.

I have often questioned and wondered over EA's way of marketing games but this was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I have even signed a petiton to see Disney pull their contract on EA's license to produce Star Wars games, because the amount of damage they do to the brand is just unforgivable.

And dont even get me started on some of the responses EA has given to the negative feedback. They're just plain insulting to gamers and fans alike.
