I do the same.  The kids absolutely love it!
At Celebration last year, my son and I would snap to attention anytime a Vader walked past.  It was fun!

After having registered my Jawa as my first costume (providing a sort of safe feeling having my face hidden behind a veil / mask),
I wanted another imperial costume with a totally different attitude,
a costume showing my face (having gained more confidence when trooping),
    a female character costume,
    a rather uncommon costume,
and a costume which I could mostly build by myself (feeling more skilled with sewing back then, than working with ABS f.e.,
which kept me from attempting Moff Nyna Calixte or Boushh).

Back in 2014/2015, there were not many options for female character costumes
(Rebels was not shown yet - Governor Pryce is a great character and costume),
especially ones that would not show too much skin
There already was a registered Juno eclipse in Austria and someone with a Ysanne Isard costume.

I did my research in the CRL databank and fell in love with Daala's flightsuit (and flightsuits in general)!

I wanted to costume a female character, but for OT I'd either have to do Princess Leia (with all her clothes on) or Slave Leia. Or Mon Mothma, but I have long hair. Padme was already out because I'm broke, Rey was out because of the weird hairdo, and Jyn was out because I thought there would be a lot of people dressed like her at DragonCon 2017. So, that left me with the First Order and the Empire. First Order went flying out the window because my grandparents lived through WWII. And at 5'2", I am way too short for Vader or a TK. My grandma actually said she liked my uniform (after I got it from CosplaySky).

A big part of what drew me to make my Imperial staff officer was loving the tailoring of the uniform. I tend to pick costumes either because I love the character or because I want to challenge myself with the costume construction. I also do historical costuming, and I loved being able to apply what I've done recently with Victorian tailoring to my officers tunic.

I've actually only trooped in my officer once so far, at a children's museum event. It was SOOO hard to keep my "resting sith face" imperial officer scowl going..... The temptation to smile at the little kids was very strong!!!

I mainly end up trooping as Princess Leia, Rey, or my generic Jedi. (And now as Vice Admiral Holdo - the most fashionable of Admirals!)

However, I wore my officer a lot at last year's dragoncon and had an absolute blast! I have sooo much fun scowling at everyone and feeling superior to every being who is not worthy to serve the Emperor. It's especially fun hanging out with all the other officers!

It's also really satisfying to be an imperial officer as a woman, considering the lack of female imperial officers in the original trilogy. When I was little, I would have LOVED too see female imperial officers! I'm glad there are now women in the first order breaking the "kyber Crystal ceiling"!
It's important for little girls to know that they can grow up to be anything, not just one of the "good guys"!

I know not everyone is a Star Wars expect, but I've gotten called some really bizarre names while trooping...
Staff Officer - "Police" "Captain" "Republic"
I haven't been called a Nazi yet, BUT I was wearing my uniform when I had the honor of meting Carol Spinney (the Muppet performer who does Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch) and all he wanted to do was tell me stories about Nazis. Very awesome talking about Nazis with Big Bird.
    ISB - "Waiter"
Navy - "Dark Helmet" "Rick Morranis" "Space Balls"
Gunner - "Darth Vader" "Darth" "Daft Punk" (I loved the guy that called me Daft Punk, it was at the St. Patty's parade, the guy was screaming at me that he loved my albums, he was very drunk and very angry. I guess he hates that he loved Daft Punk...)

The style of Imperial Officers dates farther back then the nazis. I don't fear wearing my current WIP ISB R1 uniform, nor am I ashamed to do so. My girlfriend and I even walked to our local cinema to see Blade Runner 2049 whilst wearing the uniforms to get a feel for them and to break into our new boots. I'll say it was pretty comfortable wearing the uniform in the theater. Got a lot of "you're 2 months early, officer" comments which made us smile and laugh (considering last Jedi comes out on December 14th here). Had to unbuckle my waist belt though after awhile. People at the theater did recognize us and it was pretty great! If anyone asked us why we dressed the way we did, we just said: "Officers of the Empire need some time off too you know."

... we've even been called a police officer before by some 10 year olds.. that was awkward to say the least.

People who would call an imperial officer a nazi are just ignorant to the artwork that the Star Wars universe is and portrays.

They might as well call any equestrian horse rider a nazi too, cause they wear jodhpurs and boots. The world is full of ignorance and misinformed people.

Whenever I see anybody dressed like Princess Leia, Luke, Han Solo, Chewbacca, a random Jedi, Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, or a group of these characters, I usually scowl and say (in a very fake English accent) “You rebel scum!”

By the way, whenever I see someone dressed like Darth Vader, I address them as “Lord Vader” or “my lord”, even if the addressee is a little kid in a Halloween costume! Trust me, if you call that little kid in the Halloween costume “Lord Vader”,  it will make their day. Case in point, I was walking to the DragonCon registration place and there was a little boy wearing a Darth Vader costume. “Ah, Lord Vader!” I said. Then the boy’s dad took my picture. Thanks random kid’s dad!

On Rebels, yes.  First time we've ever seen them used for anything!

Fleet Officer sounds okay.  I'm still not sure why the push to change names, but meh.  \_  _/

And for some levity;  If the word has two syllables you add "gate".  If it has one, you add "ghazi".  Poncho-gate.  Boot-ghazi

This brings up a really funny memory of mine: at DragonCon last year, I was with my mom at Corner Bakery Cafe and some lady moved aside so I could refill my Coke (I live in Atlanta, folks!), stating that I was more important than her. And at a Halloween party, someone called me a stormtrooper...

Why the Empire? The Imperial March is a thousand times better than The Throne Room (the latter sounds like a wedding march), TIE fighters look awesome (and taste good in dessert form), I can't relate to any of the rebels, and the rebel costumes just look "meh" compared to their Imperial counterparts. I mean, Princess Leia wears a turtleneck dress for most of A New Hope. Enough said.

I haven't gotten my costume ready for the IOC yet, but I've been a Mando Merc for awhile...of course "Boba", one time "Lolita Boba" (I'm obviously a girl, but that made me sad lol). "Hey, Star Wars" often. "Look, Mandalorians!", fairly often, which is wonderful. "Darth Vader"...what?! A mom to her little boy "look, Darth Vaders friends!", we waved and nodded
With my husband, also in kit (he's tall with blue armor, I'm short and green) "love the Batman and Robin/Boba crossovers!"...that bummed my husband out, I thought it was funny.
Lining up for the DragonCon parade: "Yo, yo, YO!! Jabba Fett!!"...that made me smile.
And my favorite, DragonCon Con Crawl...50+ Mandos marching through the Marriott...drunk guy shouts: "Whoa!!! That's a whole ____load of Boba Fetts!!! #$@!"

The statue game can be good and bad. At a recent troop, I was standing very still in my Royal Guard, when a policeman smacked the side of my helmet very hard, saying "this one almost looks real". My reflex reaction was to smack the crap out of him across the chest with my force pike. It didn't hurt him because it's just hollow plastic, but it scared him enough to hopefully not go around smacking expensive props (alive or not) like a moron.
