  1. Looks like third time was the charm!

PilotBay took only 1 week to:

-answer my question about a larger size than they offer

    -make said larger hat

-ship it in less than 3 days

-arrived within 7 days of purchase

Fits perfectly! I did have to swap out their disk with a no-notch disk I already had. But now I can take photos this weekend to submit for my Level 2 Imperial Security Officer (Non-Saga).

Wampa's hat pattern is... not great.  Something's just off.  Nice fabric, but I loathe their pattern.  I'd choose 20Eyes over Wampa, for a simple black hat, personally.  PilotBay is a fantastic option as well (full custom, any size, 100% reliable).

Wampa's hat arrived yesterday while I was out trooping for May the 4th. Just opened the box this morning and I get what you mean now. It just looks wider to me. I'm also not a fan of the box the ship it in which I'm sure contributed to the fold in my first one.  I just sent an email asking to do a return and will make my next purchase after my refund goes through.

I like the look of PilotBay's hat a lot, just wondering how far down it goes in front of someone's face. 20EyesDesign looks like the front brim is shorter.

  3. Well...2 months later, I have not received my replacement hat despite getting the tracking number on April 9th and no movement since then.  I reached out to the vendor if there were any issues or delays, personal matters, and was more than willing to accept a small delay. But I received no communication in the three separate messages I sent over 2 weeks.  Feeling I had no choice, I opened a case with etsy about not receiving the replacement hat and it was instantly closed in my favor with a full refund.

For expediency sake, I'm going to try WampaWear one more time since they are US based before I try another US etsy seller...maybe 20eyesDesign...though I'll have to ask if they have larger hat sizes.

  4. After conferring with a few members here, and reaching out to the vendor, I just purchased a Cavalry Twill Black cap from ImperialSeamstress.

    Now I play the waiting game...*taps thumbs*....*taps thumbs*...........*taps thumbs*......

Ahhh the waiting game sucks, let's play "Hungry, Hungry Hippos"!

Is the 3DREPLICAS SE-14r print acceptable? The CRL for the non-saga military officer says that the scope mount needs to look like the magazine, but neither the CRL picture nor 3DREPLICAS' print has the scope mount markings. For reference, this is the listing I'm looking at : https://www.etsy.com/listing/950644072/star-wars-se-14r-death-trooper-blaster?click_key=6fbdf0979c699c35ce27b4504a326611f20b75db%3A950644072&click_sum=3af75e62&ga_search_query=se-14r&ref=shop_items_search_2&crt=1

You might want to use MCM's SE-14R print if you want to make sure the scope mount matches the magazine. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/death-trooper-se-14r-blaster-pistol-star-wars  You would have to get it printed out though, if possible, in resin as the details around the barrel ends are quite small.

I see what you mean about the CRL picture not having the markings. @kman , @chicken45 thoughts on the CRL picture not having the markings as stated?

Here's the CRL in question: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:ID_imperial_officer(Non-Saga)

The markings are shown in the Death Trooper SE-14R link: https://databank.501st.com/databank/File:Tx_imperial_death_trooper_se14r.png

  6. This is an amazing coincidence, I literally received this same blaster in the mail today, 3D printed, for my Death Trooper build, from Premier Props on etsy. The seller sent me the diagram that included the size of screws needed to hold everything together, so I'll probably do a Home Depot or Ace Hardware run over the weekend.

My GML said the same thing about the scope and said finding a real one would look better, so I make pick his brain on where to source one.

Oof.  Bummer.  How noticeable is it, outside of a closeup photo?  Still useable, maybe?

Wampa uses Cavalry twill, so if you have that option, that's for sure how I'd go.  You might ask if they know specifically, however, given how ubiquitous WampaWear is these days.

If you want a perfect match, does WW still sell their fabric separately?  It's an expensive option (ask me how I know), but it's the ideal situation.

With black, however, a *perfect* match is less critical than with the greens, so it may not matter.

On the bright side, you're likely to end up with a much better hat than Wampa's (which does not technically meet CRL requirements, although GMLs are still approving them).

I held it about 5 feet away while wearing it and asked my wife if she noticed it and she said she could see those two rings. Looks like i'll just hang on to it for an special Halloween ideas that may come about.

They do sell the fabric separately for $30, but are currently out of stock of the black.

Also looks like MazKave took their etsy store down and ImperialSeamstress just sold out of their black hats.

  8. Well...tried hitting the hat with steam and a low-medium temp iron to try and iron it out and...I think I damaged it. Ungh...not happy at the moment as this was the last piece I needed to apply for L2.  I guess I can use this for a Halloween troop if I need to scuff it up or something.

Guess I'll try another vendor.  I was thinking ImperialSeamstress instead.  Would anyone know if their Black Cavalry Twill or Black Cotton Twill be closer to WampaWear's Tunic fabric?

There are lots of vendors on Etsy.  I know many have used 20EyesDesign... I think she's in Colorado?

I had my most recent hat made by PilotBay (based in SoCal), using fabric I purchased from WampaWear so it matches (since I couldn't stand wearing their hat anymore).  That's more critical for the Olive suits than black, though.

So I decided to buy WampaWear's hat to match their uniform that I already have.  It arrived with a crease in it and was wondering what would be the best way to get it out.  Otherwise fits well.

  10. I'm looking to get a new black officer hat for my Non-Saga Security officer.  The original vendor that I bought it from on etsy is no longer active.

I've seen recent posts on here that WampWear's caps have some issues lately.  Shame, as my tunic and jodphurs are from Wampa and haven't had any issues with them so far.

Any recommendations for hat vendors?  I'm planning to submit request for L2 approval in the next month.

I contacted Wehrmacht for Black Friday, but it seems I am blessed with wide foot, large calf, and short leg… (boot is too high).

Looks like I need a custom boot, ugh.  Does Hessen do custom?  (Does Hessen source boots from Wehrmacht (?))

is Crowprops better now than the tales of old?  I asked about no zippers and they referred me to their page with the model having hidden zippers…

Where is best nowadays for people that need a custom boot?

I might look for a local leatherworker, otherwise…

Hessen doesn't do custom orders anymore. Their boots come from Spain and the manufacturer doesn't make changes as far as I know.

If you do go with Crow, get the boots without the "back hided zippers".

Which ones would those be? Not seeing them without back hidden zippers on Crowprops site.

I'm looking to switch out my Hessen's because I have wide feet and the wood soles are starting to get eaten up.

Do you mean they're the same size base (sole), and your stretched 12s are actually bigger??

If new 13s are the same size as your stretched 12s, that means you can stretch the 13s to get a larger boot.  Yes, you'll need to break them in again, but in my experience they break in pretty quickly... the leather on Hessen boots is good quality and suffices for our needs 100% and then some, but it's not nearly as beefy as serious legit riding boots. (designed to defend your legs from getting hit by tree branches and such and offer actual meaningful protection like armor)  Real riding boots are notorious for taking ages to break in properly.

I mistook my first pair for a wrong size, turned out they were the same as the new ones I ordered.

I wore my older ones in a troop event today and while not too bad, I agree, need to break them in more.  Looking into getting a boot stretcher for home use.
