  1. Hi there! I'm only civilian who works for the US military (and a kid to a father who was in the Navy for 25 years), but as my Garrison is located in San Diego we have a lot of ex/current military members. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but during your tour/time in a duty station you'll sign up with the garrison you're living around/that area's, and shift when/if you get shifted to another duty station. It's basically like any other move--except you're just moving more than the normal person. It would apply/be best for those tours that last 1-2 years. On those shorter deployments I'm sure you can easily guest with the garrison in the area. 

     

    As for joining, I'd probably go with your home/current garrison if you're looking to get approved before enlisting, esp since training/etc may send you on shorter stents that would make it good for you to have a 'home base' as it were, until you know for sure where you're first duty base will be.
