Just to make sure, the image is a 4k image.

Did you right click - open in new tab that one? You should be able to zoom in quite a bit and get good detail out of there.

    *rolls up sleeves*

    Let's get into this.

This thread wandered a fair amount, but just to put things back on the table, here's my understanding of what we're discussing:

First, this is regarding "Imperial Officer Crew (Non-Saga)"

    Link: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Imperial_officer_crewman_non_saga

The costume name change has already been accomplished: It's no longer "crewman".  The URL, unfortunately, cannot be changed, due to various back end mechanics of the Legion's wiki database.  But the name in the listing and the title of the document is already updated.

    1) COMPAD:  I agree we should add the correct compad and use the non-saga ground crew language (mostly) to describe it.  I'm open to moving the compad to required, but also to leaving it optional, since we don;t have convincing evidence either way.  The OT TIE compad pictured should be removed entirely... this is a new costume from a non-saga movie, and should not bring forward the old OT compads (no longer approval even for OT).

I'm open to adding  those R1 TIE Pilot compads as an alternate option for basic approval, if others on our team approve, but the LMOs would have to be on board with that, unless we find actual evidence it was done.  This would once again give the costumers two options at basic: (1) a cross-over costume, as now, re-using components from the R1 TIE (and not the OT TIE), and (2) the correct Compad.  We would basically be substituting one incorrect component for another, but if the LMOs are on board, I can be on board.  If not, there's little recourse.

    2) FLIGHT SUIT:  I agree we should not require the nylon Strapping on the top of the code cylinder sleeves, at basic.  This could be revised to "MAY be present" for L1.  I don't think we should address it at all for L2/L3, as the evidence is not super strong, to my eye.   Could be interpreted either way and I'd rather err on the side of flexibility.  If someone wants a dedicated flightsuit for this costume, they are more than welcome to remove that flap, else no harm in leaving this minor detail aside, for anyone else.  Similarly, and under the current circumstances, I don't think we should get into requiring, or banning, padding, at any level.  The costume is going to fit different bodies in different ways.  Nuff said.  So "Shoulders are slightly padded." should be removed as an L2 requirement, sidestepping the issue.

PS: There is no "flap".  That's called an "action back" to give freer movement to the shoulders by adding a pleat to the back panel that can expand as the wearer moves.  It's present on all of the various the onscreen OT flightsuits as well, and yet not required at any level.  It could be mentioned as optional, but I don't want to start requiring that sort of construction.  We've been just fine all these years NOT requiring it on OT flight suits.  Some have it, some don't, and that's fine.

    3) GLOVES:  (Optional).  Given the poor photos either way, I could get on board with revising the gloves.  Drop the word gauntlet in the title, and change the text to read "covering the wrist".  Perhaps mandate that gloves extend under the sleeves, which would allow both wrist-length and gauntlet-length gloves, but disallow super short police search gloves.  And I'm fine with adding optional three lines on the back.

    4) BELT BOXES:  This is going to lead to a bigger discussion, because I think I agree the belt box language should be updated across the non-saga CRLs.  Borrowing from the Andor Style boxes listed in ISB (NS): "Belt boxes are metal or give the convincing appearance of metal" at Level 2.  The R1 boxes were metal, to my knowledge.  The Andor boxes are indeed cold cast resin, but they really do a good job of looking like actual metal.  I would like to avoid poorly-printed 3D prints with a rushed spray paint of silver Rustoleum, to the extent possible.  GMLs in some areas may well allow that at basic level, but that's really no different from now.

    5) CODE CYLINDERS:  I'm good with the suggested change: "Up to three may be worn" As to the resin suggestion, I would submit a similar change as the belt boxes: "Rod Style: Rod with flaring disc detail at top, made of machined metal or alternate material giving a convincing and realistic appearance of metal."

    6) BOOTS: I'd like to see some photos, first, but if so, I'm ok with removing the "buckle/strap" L3 requirement, if you can show some of these "multiple screen used instances" of boots with no Buckles being used.

Headset is something we don't need to wade into until someone actually builds one.  We literally can't add it anyway, until we have one in hand that we can photograph.

So the other day I was playing Star Wars Squadrons, and I noticed these fellas in the hangar:

And that got me wondering. Are they the same as the ones seen in the films? What's different? And right away I noticed the ESB style headsets.

Now, seeing some folks run around in the background of a hangar could make it difficult to get sufficient reference material going, if this was a film. Luckily, this is not a film and we have modding tools that can help us to look at the files for these guys directly!

The in-game files denote this character as "NavyCrewman". Over the next coming days I hope to deep dive into the details on this costume, and write a text draft for what a CRL could look like. Sadly, I currently don't have the financial means to realize this as a physical costume, so the text guide might just help somebody who stumbles over this really obscure costume in the future.

If I see this correctly, the "generic" Amnesty officer is going into RL's United Citizens of the Galactic Republic

So at least the Costume gets a home  By the looks of it, Elia Kane as a face character however isn't gonna make it into RL.

Personally, I'm not opposed to Kane as a face character in the 501/IOC.

    Burton Moto Boa boots!
And the extra straps and parts. I haven't identified the pad on the back of the heel of the prop boots yet.

I'll draft up some sketches of how the extra details are added.

    Hey, that's a cool thread I wasn't aware of - thank you!

Funny, looks like they don't share many parts, surprisingly. The boots, belt buckle and boxes are different even  Didn't expect that at all.

Looking at the file rips only, it gives the impression of the crew suit being black, based on the lighting. Checking in-game however, it does seem to be the same gray color as Waylin. Obviously, the game is the canon source, so this is the color that should be used

I really don't understand how you're still going on about this, I'm sorry. What your personal standards to quality control or character designs are simply doesn't apply to this discussion. Like it or not, things can be inconsistently portrayed in canon. Things can look different from Live Action and still be canon. Things can be headscratchers and still be canon.

And even when it's not canon, it's *still* a valid source to make 501st costumes from. In the last few weeks alone IOC published a CRL for a non-canon Anime source *and* for a Zombie officer from a 20 year old game.

Video games are allowed as references in the 501st!
There are plenty of characters that only ever appear in the video games and have costumes in the 501st!

Starkiller and several diffrent troopers from the Force Unleased Video Games and several Clones variants from the Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) game come to mind of approved costumes that exist in the legion. Doesn't exactly matter if it's cannon or not!

You are right about both. I'm surprised the Galen Erso scene counts because dang you can barely tell. But yes, in Solo you can see some officers in the background wearing short boots. But seems like 99.9% of Star Wars officers wear long boots.

As for TIEs, I have found no reference to this. I have found what appears to be this style of cylinder on an X-Wing pilot, in a shot which hasn't made the final cut for ROTJ.

    MerrSonn Power5 Blaster
Scratch built or high-end prop replica based on a Mauser C96, or  M712. Grip can be wood tone, from brown to black.  Cooling module ribs can be black, weathered silver, or silver. Only the tops of the fins are painted/weathered silver. The sides are black. The wire on top can be straight or coiled. Accurate greeblies are present on both sides. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): If using a straight wire, the the cooling module ribs must be silver. If using a coiled wire, the cooling module ribs must be black, or weathered. The blaster may have minor weathering or base metal exposure. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):       Merr Sonn Power 5 Holster Made of black leather or leather-like material. Outer circumference of the holster is curved around the basic shape of the blaster. Holster has a cutout for the blaster's “cooling module.” Holster has one belt loop that is integrated into the holster body. A safety strap that secures the blaster in the holster is present. Holster is open at the bottom and allows the muzzle to slightly protrude. Holster is not present if no weapon is carried with the costume. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Holster is made of leather.

I agree on all points raised here I also agree that Airsoft as base shouldn't be something that needs to be explicitly mentioned.

The reason I guess I brought it up is that is something mentioned on the R1TK E-11, due to the visual differences. Stuff like a mag release button and selector can even be found on the cheapo plastic Aliexpress Mausers, Example photo:

Chances are that nowadays you're more likely to find 712 replicas than actual C96 replicas. Either way, 99% of people won't notice. And those who want to go RPF detailed still can do that.

Hello everyone, I am currently working on the large DataPad from the ISB of Andor. Fullsize.
With the possibility to include an iPad. Software I will also program.

    Who is interested?

For the EU I will produce an edition. Other regions can get the files to 3D print the pad themselves.

Here's my key takeaways: I believe Petigar has a "old school" Power 5. It has a coiled cable and black fins. It has a red button on the side, unlike the OT version (as far as I can tell)

Taramyn seems to pick up Petigar's blaster, so we can grab some additional angles with that:

Petigar's blaster has the straight wire. Taramyn's blaster has the coil.

The M712 Selector switch is present on this prop, it was not removed, like the Solo DL-44s.

Gorn's blaster has the silver fins:

    Dedra's blaster:

Dedra's blaster has a magazine release button and a Valve in the bottom of the Magazine, indicating that this is also an airsoft M712, likely from WE/AW Custom

Now I would suggest the following:
    - I completely agree that a non-coiled cable should be optional. For the military officer, I think both are probably fine. I don't think there's much point in debating over whether one cable isn't coiled, as it'll give costumers better + more options of which blaster to pick!
    - For the Silver finned version: The first and last fin aren't silver, but black. This likely indicates that the remaining fins were painted silver, rather than the part being entirely silver. You can see this very nicely in the shot with the blaster on the floor
    - The greeblies on Dedras blaster seem to be silver/red, just as Petigar's. I just think it's more subtle on Dedra due to all the smoke/dirt in the shot. I think it's save to say that the greeblies on the right side of the blaster aren't all black.
    - Both types of blaster have two greeblies on the top. These appear to be on some DL-44 models, as well as OT Power 5s as well. I'm not sure if these should be added to the wording or if there's pre-established names for these. Looks kind of like capacitors? Pistons? No clue, somebody else probably has a better answer here!
    - Maybe add airsoft M712/replica thereof specifically as Level 2. We can see the Selector Switch + Magazine release, features that are not present on "regular" Mauser C96 models. The Valve on the bottom of the magazine also is crystal clear on the origin being an Airsoft/Airgun type replica. Real M712 Magazine plates do not have a hole with a valve in it
    - I believe the blasters used specifically are WE/AW, but I think this would be too specific for a CRL and really shouldn't matter.
    - Let's delete M617 from the wording, unless other evidence comes up later as part of the discussion. Like you said, it's a carry over from the Legacy entry. I don't think we should copy a mistake from a legacy description, if we know it doesn't mean anything.

This is a small thing, but something that I noticed: M617
Where did that designation come from? I've been googling and found nothing. I feel like it might be worth deleting this term, if nobody else knows what's up with it, as it may confuse people otherwise?

As for ISB Power 5: Since Gorn carries one and Petigar carries one, it might be worth adding the same blaster/holster combo to the Non Saga Imperial Officer as well.

I'll do some screenshot digging later to find out if
    A) Petigar's Power 5 is silver ribs
    B) If it's possible to tell if it is a Schnellfeuer or a regular C96. A magazine eject button would be a big giveaway here.

More good news: since the R1 and Andor Ponchos are pretty close (they are both black ponchos), both R1 and Andor Ponchos are permissible with either Security or Military officers. Previously we only saw Security officers with both R1 and Andor ponchos, and we only saw the military in black Andor ponchos.  It simply makes sense to allow the R1 version since they already can wear a black poncho anyways. Close enough for plastic spacemen and great at world building.
