buckrogersbarker got a reaction from Katsu Ma'roy in Celebration London April 7-10 - General Discussion - Travel & Planning
I need to just get this out. I am not going to be able to attend Celebrations London in April. It is not going to be possible. My father has cancer. He has a pretty bad one (not that there are good ones). We have known since Thanksgiving and he completed a very aggressive regimen of chemo and radiation a couple of weeks ago. He had and still is having a rough time of it. I stayed with my parents during the last week of treatment to help out as I could. He is getting better now and every day some of his strength returns. But he has a very serious surgery still ahead around the time of the convention. I plan to be there with him when this happens.

Everything that was planned for Celebrations will still happen. I have very good people working on the staff of the IOC Detachment that have everything covered. They will see that everything happens without a hitch. Things I planned to bring to people will still get to them, either in the mail or hand carried by friends. The only real loss is not seeing people that I love dearly. I had hoped to go to Celebrations and for a week in addition in the rest of Europe, but that will have to wait.

I am only giving the reasons for this now as people have been asking and wondering. I want to thank everyone who has been thinking and praying for my family. Knowing that helps immensely.

buckrogersbarker got a reaction from Alay in Honest question: Why did the Sith Eternal Officer take so long to clear?
You  can read the entire history and development here chronologically starting with page one here.  The thread and initial posts was created by an LMO at the same time the visual guides were released with the Rise of Skywalker premier in December of 2019.

In March of 2020 a cadet (a person not a fully approved member of the legion) was announced to be working on a costume.  The cadet started showing their work and progress taking direction and advice from members, the staff and the LMO who started the thread.  By July the body of the costume was mostly finished.  Only a few items remained.

By October 2020, the costume was finsihed and the Cadet was ready to submit.  They were not aware of the process of getting permission from the LMO office prior to starting and no one had explained this to them.  The LMO clears a costume to proceed.... it gets made by the applicant.  A CRL is written and if it is written well and the costume is of sufficient quality it is published as a CRL.

The first visible pass of a CRL text is in February 2021 by the applicant.

A full CRL text is posted by the applicant in March 2021 when my administration came into office.  That is when the questions started about the back seam of the tunic.  Ironically, a German garrison member at this time pointed out the back seams on the Lego minifig of the character (which turned out to be right).   The final CRL text was shown at the end of March 2021.

In April I brought in one of the head LMOs to see what we could do to get things started.  He came in and stated that the LMO office now voted on if costumes could proceed.  This was a new development.  The second thing was he wished we had involved the LMO office from the start (the thread was created by the other head LMO and mostly commented on by him up to that point).  We were then involved that there was not enough views for the CRL to proceed and it was placed on hold.

And the entire thread went bananas including the previous detachment leader calling foul.
Was the LMO in the right to make this decision? Yes, they are the final arbiter.  Was it right.  I didn't think so.  A lot of people didn't think so.  And there was really no indication that this would be stopped until I came into office.

Another LMO who is active in the detachment made a statement of support and a suggestion for getting it cleared.  They took down their post and resigned their position.

Over the next month into May a number of members and staff that had been very pro creation for this costume, came out against it in the same thread.  The blame for this decision was placed on the entire LMO office that voted.  It should be noted that this team is different than this past year's LMO team.  Other detachment leaders that do not have IOC costumes created accounts and came in flummoxed at the decision.   There was arguments over the people that were for the CRL being paused as they were involved in the publishing of CRLs that didn't have the same references.  Old wounds got opened over that and that is why some bring up some CRLs periodically and ask if they can be removed for a lack of references.   Promises to check sources and find out conclusively what the detail of the lower back of the tunic were made, but nothing was revealed.

The following year in 2022 I reached out to our Legion Commanding Officer Justin Sonfield and told him the history of this CRL's development.  I said it was outrageous that this one detail would prevent it from being published.  I stated the cadet was prepared to make any change that would be revealed from finding out this detail.  I asked them if they would speak to LFL about it.  Justin did and explained the situation.  LFL was not able to provide a reference photo, but Justin was able to show them a line of of many tunic back seams.  It was something of a police line up, but LFL fingered the one they said was correct.  It turned out to be the same seams on the LEGO minifig.  The cadet made modifications to their tunic and we were able to submit.  The LMO office accepted it and it was published.  That happened under @mrrikki LMO administration and I have admired his commitment to get things created.  Both him and Justin Sonfield are committed to a pro costume growth platform.

Myfabrics is a good site (I've used them for Emperor robe fabric) and the color of the fabric you linked looks good.  My only concern with it would be since it's 100% cotton, it's going to wrinkle pretty easily, so care and upkeep of the uniform may get annoying.

I haven't used the fabric Joey posted either, but the color looks legit.  The listing says wool blend, which probably means wool/polyester, which means it should be decently wrinkle resistant.

Good to meet you Lewis.  The best fabric I have seen was a run made by members of the German Garrison a few years ago (they may have another run coming soon).  It was a mostly wool with some poly blend for body  The original OT costumes were a Feld Grau cavalry Twill made of wool, though gaberdine has been used on many costumes.

There are no established patterns that are openly available, but many were modified from a McCalls Civil war pattern if you can find it.

That fabric you have shown is a good color!!

Hey there everyone thanks for having me,

I am currently in the very early stages of getting started on my imperial Military officer costume and was wondering if I could get some opinions on where to source the fabric and patterns. I am in the UK so preferably a UK vendor for fabrics would be good. I am currently looking at this fabric

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this retailer and any suggestions on different retailers.

    Thank you, Robert,

I appreciate you taking the time to summarise the whole situation. I did briefly read over the many replies and pages from the original post, but you have summed it up perfectly.
I am always amazed by the hard work and dedication of some individuals in the Legion, and I’m glad that the costume creator could finally get the resolution she was deserving of.

Hi @chicken45 @buckrogersbarker, yes I think that we can use that text.
According with the visual references, the main characteristics are:
Hat Without the concentric stitches on front bill extends rebels code disk Tunic Without Princess seams on the back With a vertical seam in the middle of the back Without the dart in the front  with only one seam on inner arm for sleeves Without the circular seam Pant With smaller flares and cartoon similar Belt Has the specific buckle, the code disk goes not right in the middle. It is higher than the OT and the snap is located higher too Code cylinders Would depend on the character, but they are rebels style and with red cap Boots Ridding boots Gloves Black, short, without stitches on the back Rank bar depending on the character  here I have the hat, tunic, pants and gloves. Will  get a complete picture today, and the hat with the code disk
Thanks again for the support and help

I've just ported them over from the other thread for clarity  Just to hammer my point across - I think the current standard suffers from including things that we have no evidence for otherwise. (Gauntlets, etc) I think changing to reflect things we actually have sources for would likely be better long term.

On that note, realistically, all the suggested changes on this suit could probably be ported to the Navy Trooper Non Saga also.

Both INT and Crewman CRLs presume the suits to be the same as the R1 TIE, zipper cover aside, while that is not the case. Looks like the same suit is reused on INT and Crew. Let me know if I should comment on another thread for potential updates!

I totally see your point and that's part of why I think including the R1 TIE pad makes sense. Rogue One TIE Pilot costumers are likely the primary candidates to wear the R1 style crewman costume, due to the large similarities and overlap in design. A big part of the design language of R1 was to overhaul OT costumes to match modern viewing habits. As such, including OT pads in this costume seems contradictory to me. I think retaining R1 TIE pads (potentially only for L1) would make the costume more accessible to the primary audience of the costume.

We have evidence of two style of pads, one being the IGC pad and one being barely visible in the visual guide. If evidence pops up of other pad styles being used, I'd be more than happy to see those added! Having pads added that we at no point see with this costume would be an odd choice to me. Same goes for not having a pad at all - if every Non-Saga Crewman we see has one, should it remain optional?

That said, if we can find evidence of the components being used/not used, I'd be more than happy with it! Be that gauntlets, pads, etc.
