buckrogersbarker reacted to Detaleader in Crewman (Non saga) Update Proposal
Hey folks! Since the thread for the Non Saga Crew has been moved to completed, I figured now would be a good time to create a new thread to discuss potential updates. Wouldn't want to have these things fade into obscurity

Here's a list of things mentioned on the previous thread:

    - Compad
-> Replace images of OT TIE compads with IGC compad. Change compad to be mandatory component, unless we find evidence, that they shouldn't be mandatory.
-> If more evidence is found we could add the compad style seen on Yort Cavwol.
-> I feel like it might be worth discussing r1 TIE compads should be permitted. I haven't been able to find evidence for them being used for the Crewman.

    - Flight Suit
-> Flap on the back of the suit (Level 3?)
-> Nylon Strapping on the top of the com cylinder sleeves may be permitted for L1, but should not be there for L2/3
-> Remove padding in shoulders for L2/3

In my opinion, reusing the R1 TIE suit for L2/3 should likely not be possible. The suits are different enough to the point where a mere zipper swap is likely not gonna cut it.

    - Gloves -> Find evidence that gauntlets are suitable. If not, remove gauntlets. Add shorter officer style gloves, optionally three lines on hand(?)

    - Boots -> Remove "buckle/strap" requirement, as we have multiple screen used instances of boots with no Buckles being used.

    - Optional headset? -> If somebody gets around to building one

Link to previous thread, where some additional images and info has been posted.

I know some of the updates concern optional accessories. However, imo that shouldn't be a reason to have people grab wrong things or have wrong images around for what is effectively a costume guideline for many people.

    Good to see you Simon.

Now that you are cleared, you can do two things.

    One:

    Join the officer's mess here.

    Two:
You can get full IOC access which I am granting you right now.

    Ok...back at my desk.
I think it is clear that a one size fits all trenchcoat solution will not work.
We should keep the existing coats the same, and make new ones.
We don't have to try to fit the square peg into round hole.

    You'll see:
    TRENCHCOAT, ROGUE ONE VERSION
TRENCHCOAT, KENOBI VERSION (not a lot of good references...but I think this is different from R1 when compared to the Visual Dictionary pics)
TRENCHCOAT, WHITE, ANDOR VERSION, MALE (pocket flaps point inwards, no visible pocket stitching)
TRENCHCOAT, WHITE, ANDOR VERSION, FEMALE (same as male version but has a different front cut)
TRENCHCOAT, OLIVE, ANDOR VERSION (pocket flaps point outwards and have visible pocket stitching.

So, this means you can tell Maz "Just make the Andor coat like it looks on screen".

Hi there, I just read on FB that the official officer photo is planned for Thursday April 6th at 5PM local time and I'm wondering why something like this is planned on a day, when SWC didnt even start and most of the people are still travelling to London. Can this please be changed to Friday or Saturday?

Update: Already updated to Friday, forget my request. Thank you very much for the change of date. Looking forward to meet the other officers and having a great party afterwards at the bash.

we are going to do all we can to make contact and develop a relationship with the costume makers.  Maybe get a pantone number.  The exact color should not be a level 1 because people find different fabrics in all parts of the world.  We would lose maybe 60% of the currently approved line officers if we instituted anything so rigid (the cosplay skys are a very lime green).

We are reaching out now to see if we can make contact with them.

The real world uniform in the photo above is from Revenge of the Sith.  There are several photos of members with different ranks in the book Costuming A Galaxy.

I am not going to tell you how to do it or where to place the seams.  I could bring in several tailors to work with you to discuss it if you want.  This is the major issue with animated uniforms.  All these seams really break down the pattern into smaller parts.  If sized correctly the parts will make the uniform conform to your body in a fit manner.  That is how a well tailored uniform or suit is made.  They don't have this issue in animation because it is just an animation.  In the real world, without all of these seams, most cloth would look like a bag hanging off of a person.

That is why "darts" are used.  Darts are tucks sewed in uniforms to pull it in at the waist.  Not ever uniform has the, but they are seen in references of some officers.

That said, you do NOT have to follow the examples set by other animated CRLs.

Bring your references and when you inevitably have to make a decision you can't find on the model, let us know.  If it is a tailoring issue we will likely let it pass.  Because that is the reality of how translating animation to real life works.  Make your decisions and stick to your references as best you can and let us see what you are doing.

But FIRST.  Put all of your references here.  Once we have enough, let me know and I'll have the LMOs come in to bless this to proceed.  Then it is just a matter of you making the costume and we helping to write the CRL.

The standing collar has square corners, is between 1.25" (31.8 mm) to 2" tall, and closes snugly. The wearer's neck must not be visible between the closed collar edges. A modesty panel behind the collar closure is recommended to help with this, but is not required. Collar edges are closed together in front with two eye hooks. A central seam runs down the back of the tunic, with no princess seams. Tunic has long sleeves which are without decoration, cuffs or buttons. Hi it's meeeee again! Lol

I have conferred with one of our GMLs and he seems to concur with my analysis so I wanted to throw this out to the peanut gallery.

I think I've come to the conclusion that the ISB officer boots are almost exactly like the Krennic boots, but with the inside invisible zipper, as @Barkydog1 has pointed out in reference. So, they have that back seam, the quarter-circular flap on the back, and the strap on the side, like Krennic's boots, but also the invisible zipper on the inside of the boot.

I think I got a pretty good reference of the back of the boot, considering how wide the shots are that show the boots in detail.

What do y'all think? I am thinking I'm going to order the Krennic boots from CrowProps with the inside invisible zipper modification.

Absolutely! Tier 1 CRLs have gotten pretty ridiculous in some places. Gatekeeping is one thing that gives the Legion a bad rap in the larger costuming community.

It's my opinion that Tier 1 could use any kind of riding boot, but for higher tiers, you need a flat top boot. Maybe the strap and inner zipper required for Tier 3. Basic low, blonde military bun for Tier 1, but details like the style of bun and hair net for higher tiers. A wider range of shades of white for Tier 1, more specific for Tier 2-3. We just seem to have differing opinions on what the "correct" shade of white is for higher tiers. Haha. Personally, I think the idea of a range of cool white to very very light dove gray white for higher tiers, and a wider range of white tones for basic could be a good compromise.

My general thoughts on levels 1 through 3 are that 1 should be accessible for those that want to do the costume.  With higher levels something that can be worked on over years if they want to keep striving to get that level of accuracy.

There has been a lot of pulling level 3 details down to level 1 over the years in the legion.  This does more to dissuade people from joining.  I am a firm believer that costume excellence should be incentivized, not gatekept.

I also suggest looking at the CRLs for the other similar uniforms:  Imperial Military Non-saga, Security Services Non Saga, and the ISB Non Saga to see where we place what is level 2 and level 3.  We are not bound by precedent, but we try to keep these ships flying in formation with one another.
