I'm not sure, but it looked like it would repel water.

From having used it, not Nikwax. That doesn't change it like this. I think it's probably pre-treated like industrial tarp kind of stuff. Not the new poly based tarps, like the old ww2 tarp kind of material, but thinner.

Can you link pictures or links , i'm afraid i don't really see what you mean :o
Maybe those tent care / waterproof products could do the trick , but the spray ones , no the wax type ...

Any cotton will give crisp folds when given enough ironing. I wouldn't use that as a metric as costume shops use industrial steam irons on EVERYTHING. (It's my favorite part of the process.

I honestly think it's a fairly standard cotton for the cape, but treated to give the weatherproof effect.

Oh , i just figured the cape didn't see any kind of iron for a while when you look at all the minor creases

By treated , do you think the cape might have been waxed ? That kind of " treatment " ?

I have a friend who has a very accurate Kylo Ren and he's waxing the outer robes and hood regularly . Phasma costumers rubberised theirs ... I wonder what kind of treatment was used on Krennic's cape :o

  3. Interesting picture , it gives a " hint " on the kind of cotton that was used .

After doing a bit of researches at the fabric store i noticed that lighter cottons make smooth folds , on this picture we can see the folds are pretty sharp , so although the board next to the costume said it was " lightweight cotton " , it's probably a fairly thick kind of " lightweight cotton " .

  4. Then again , we represent the Empire , and we scratch whoever's floor we want

But yeah , as Kman just said , you can get your boots fixed at a good shoe-store . I often wear my boots for 5 to 9 hours straight ( in some rare cases like Celebration ) and i don't see much wear and tear . Unless you're planning to wear them everyday there should be no problems as long as you polish them from times to times and / or use leather care products . I like to polish mine after each troop to allow the shoe polish to set down , and buff them before each troop in order to avoid shoe-polish stains on by breeches ;)

  5. I can't tell you for sure if it's a good thing or not , personally i though of buying those as well ( more like a repro of those , i'm not fond of half-rusted original pieces :P ) for a second pair a boots . They are fairly obvious when worn but as you suggested perhaps they'd be less obvious if painted black . Although , since you'll walk in them , the paint will come off pretty quickly .
I'd like to read someone else's answer on the subject .

  6. I think they look great !

    They're leather boots , military type / Officers type , so it's perfect .

Now don't worry , there's very little chance those boots were worn by an Officer working in Auschwitz , they were probably never worn at all . Besides , the guy mentions they are not original WW2 era boots although they are from Germany . Original boots , worn or mint condition from WW2 with an original date stamp to prove they were made between 1939 and 1945 are usually worth nearly the double of those . My guess is those are just post-war army surplus from the 50's - 60's :P

People just love to sell things that are allegedly from WW2 era because the title is more catchy and Reenactors are always on the hunt for original pieces of equipment .

I know we'd moved off of this, but I believe this may be a younger Director Krennic. (My other thought was that it may be Galen Erso, but that's one theory too far for the moment). He looks to be wearing the same type of gun from what I can tell with the outline, and he's also got a dosimeter in his right pocket. Unless they've decided to change the ISB tunics to the style of the others, Krennic is the only one with a 'normal' tunic. I'm also curious as to what the sloped 'v' shape on top of his tunic is for - to me it looks to be part of the cape. Please, lucasfilm, just give us a trailer already!

It is not one theory too far ;)

Although i don't think it's Galen Erso , Jyn's father being Imperial is totally possible .
I can so picture Galen being allegedly killed by the Empire early in the movie , hence Jyn would be " on her own since she was 15 " and then somewhat later in the movie you learn that her father actually works for the Empire . It surely wouldn't be an original plot-twist for a SW movie , but i have less troubles imagining that happening than Mads Mikkelsen portraying a good guy

So , this could be a younger Krennic , but i don't think it'd be of much use to make flashbacks in the movie as the Empire only begins to get challenged actively by the Rebels in Rogue One / ANH . Even with just that red rank bar , that guy seems to hold an important position , no need to dispatch an important ISB agent on the field unless there is a serious problem . So in my humble opinion , the guy on the pic is just another ISB operative holding a lower rank than Krennic , but higher than your average Officer as well . And the ISB now fancies capes ...

Cassandra, why did you buy Men's 7 if Men's 6 is available?  Can you exchange, or is it too much money to ship it?

I like to order the Tough Gloves from http://www.lapolicegear.com/tough-td301-patrolx-cabretta.html

Well , i read the reviews first and everyone was telling that they sized very small , and since my previous gloves were size 8 , i thought size 7 would fit perfectly :P

But my size 8 gloves were women gloves , didn't really knew there was a difference in glove sizing . I did checked by measuring my hand in inches at the knuckles , and 7 seemed to be the right size . I'll try to send them back , i'll just have to expect snail mail return

  9. Oh my , that is a good deal !

One pair for each uniform :P

Why do man gloves always come in Medium and Large sizes ? <_<

I just got my new pair of gloves , and even a Man size 7 is slightly too large ...

    Got them from http://www.leatherglovesonline.com/np/MensGloves-ByStyle-Police-Patrol-gloves-td301-ultra-thin-patrol-x-leather-gloves.htm#page=details

They're unlined and very soft , if they'd be a size smaller they'd properly feel like a second skin !

  10. Yeah, that was the shot I originally saw.  Finding them may be a pain - I'm searching but all the short leather gloves I find have the damn lines.

As Danielle mentioned , you'll have a lot more luck if you look for Police / Security gloves , some often come reinforced with kevlar and cut-resistant ! ;)

Here are your gloves , short and devoid of any lines !

    http://www.leatherglovesonline.com/np/MensGloves-ByStyle-Police-Patrol-gloves-td301-ultra-thin-patrol-x-leather-gloves.htm#page=details

I have ordered a pair of those last week they should arrive soon if FedEx is willing to move their posteriors . According to the review they are worth every penny but tend to come in small sizes , i will thus review them myself as i will be using them both for my Krennic costume and as replacements for my OT Admiral as well :P

I wasn't originally going to spend 50$ on a pair of gloves but it seems those were the only good quality gloves i could find that had sizes 7 and 8 , so ...

  11. Hi, I was the photographer in that. It was not the same as the one he wore on stage, HOWEVER I will say that the lighting in the Rogue One panel room was exceptionally harsh. Really really bright white light. It would wash out anything that wasn't heavily coloured. So while it looked a lot lighter, it wasn't as light as some people think.

Looking at it myself, I felt like the costume we saw was not pure white, but more of a really really light grey. Like dove grey. Not off white (which has the yellowy/gold undertones) but a blue undertoned grey.

Also, the display one definitely had a slit in the back. You had to go hunting for it, but this is 4 pictures that I put together of the same place on the cape from different angles where you can clearly see the opening of the slit.

    BackOpeningKrennic.jpg

Well thanks Meg for your input on the arm slits , your knowledge on garments and clothes of previous centuries comes in very handy here

I wonder if it'd be possible to use those slits as pockets as well , it'd be practical considering that Officers are usually devoid of pockets and that Phasma's cape does have pockets in the lining as well . I tried transporting my notes in my code cylinders but they ended up being stuck in , so i wouldn't recommend it :D

I do agree that the tunic and cape didn't looked entirely white as in #FFFFFF white , but they looked light enough in colour to be considered a tone a white rather than a tone of grey in my humble opinion . And since the ISB uniforms are white , it would make sense Krennic's uniform would be white as well .

Glad to hear the CRL will say " white " as well , i'd hate to have to order a new tunic right now :P

  12. I would recommend Imgur , that's what i use , it's simple and you do not need to worry about storage capacity  ;)

Woo hoo , ordered my Krennic uniform today , will be looking around fabric stores soon for an accurate cotton fabric for the cape :)

  13. Oops, for some reason I though FE already had Thrawn.  Bad memory apparently.

Nah , we still have our good old Thrawn , the Legacy Officers , both Isard ...

The only Officer we miss ( technically ) is Veers . But being ACD as well , i don't quite see it as an issue

  14. No way we give Legend Thrawn to the Flagship Eclipse , he stays ours

You might be right though James , it's probably a better thing to write a whole new CRL . We can partly base it on the current Kallus CRL except ask for a white tunic instead obviously . The rest will probably remain fairly similar to the regular Thrawn .

  15. I assume that in the CRL it would be a good thing either in the requirements or the additional requirements to mention what is needed for the regular version , and what is needed for the Rebels version , since both are slightly different .

So far the tunic is a bit different , with rounded shoulders like Kallus rather than squared like regular OT Officers , instead of having epaulettes he simply wears two golden pieces on his shoulders , he has a red line under his eyes and his hair aren't jet black but dark blue . :)

  16. It was great meeting you too !!

The CRL can be inconsistent or incomplete when it comes to certain details , so there is stuff you end up learning by spending hours roaming around here , looking at the Executor and Imperator status requests . I think i can safely say that most of the things i learned regarding our lovely uniforms i learned by reading Phil's comments on the promotion board :D

I was proud to stand among all of you in London , particularly since the Officers are a rare view around here . I won't be missing another IOC photoshoot anytime soon :P

  17. Oops, good catch on the belt, I knew that and still typed it wrong. -_-

Hair I emulated the Tarkin CRL, as he is a named face character - I get what you're saying, but a purple-haired Tarkin isn't acceptable, and as Krennic is the "big bad" of Rogue One, I feel his CRL should match that.

Boots I actually would be in agreement on that - Basic the same as officer boots (which would mean I wouldn't have to run out and buy new boots immediately), but yeah, Level 3 definately screen accurate.  Level 2 like yu said maybe somewhere in between - leather with a similar flap and strap type thing.

As BJ said, the tunic is completely different from ISB - ISB tunic does not go over shoulder, with the flap, it right angles across the chest and the collar is somewhat different.  You'd spend more time modifying it then you would to commission an OT Officers' Jacket in White Gaberdine.

I hear you , that's why i say i have mixed feelings about it . On one hand i think the greying hair should be a requirements , on the other hand i fear the results as well .

You can easily ask your hairdresser to dye your hair grey , but it doesn't look natural . His' have that natural greyish brown tone that will be extremely hard if not impossible to replicate properly ( and as i mentioned before , short wigs are usually awful as the seams are super obvious and the hair have synthetic colour tones ) .

Do you have something against purple-haired people ? The airlock isn't far , watch it

  18. I hung around when the exhibition closed hoping to get a picture when it taken down, no luck

Same here , i was harassing them every morning the get on the podium to take a closer look with my friend's camera , no luck . Also tried to get closer when they were about to remove the glasses , but it was a no-no . I guess that if the slightest problem would've happened with the costumes the peoples responsible for them would've ended up in big troubles , so they didn't seemed very keen on taking any kind of risk :/

Regarding the CRL , here are my suggestions :

For the boots , since the CRL for the OT Officers mentions people can be validated L1 with PVC and leather like materials with zipper , we could be indulgent and allow OT-style boots for L1 as well . Maybe allow them for L2 as well if the owner sews the back flap to them with the small buckle in the back , but for L3 we would have to expect perfect replicas of German Officers boots .

For the hair i have mixed feelings . I assume his rank is unique , like it is for both Isard , so it would make sense that if you go for Krennic's costume it's him that you portray and not some random person with a random hair colour ... But i have a bad feeling about asking people to get their hair dyed the right colour , as it is somewhat in between brown and grey , and that short wigs tend to be very ugly unless they are professionally made and applied . But maybe we could put that into the " optional requirements " . It all depends on whether we create a CRL for " Rogue One Director of Intelligence ( generic ) or Krennic specifically ...

Snap on the belt is worn on the right of the wearer , watch out for that one  ;) His snap is on his blaster side , opposite of his rank , unlike OT Officers .

Here is Mr. Fabulous at the Rogue One panel .

I doubt he was wearing the same uniform he used in the movies since the screen-used ones were indeed at the Rogue One Costume booth . Maybe there were a few ones made for him ( in case it got dirty :P ) , or a stunt one(s) .

  19. Maybe for like those three days in February when it's actually below 60. lol.

I'm curious what the front looks like. Looks like one guy has a belt & the other doesn't.

Well if i am correct and the coat is indeed very inspired by those WW2 motorcycling rubber coats , there is great chances the the front looks very much like that :D

Minus the shoulder tabs probably ...

    2wojak8.jpg

  20. Yeah , the trench-coat coat are really a nice addition . It seems logical as well that some Officers are wearing them if the weather isn't always great on a certain planet , but in the OT all of them were either on the Death Star or Star Destroyers so no need for any additional field equipment .

Looks to me like it was loosely based on the rubber trench-coat used by German motorized infantry during WW2 . And loosely is sort of an understatement here ...

    2je9wza.jpg

  21. Can we just add a cape as an approved 'add on' for any Officer? I'm sure they had them, it was just back in the closet in their quarters. Who's with me??

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    I second the idea !

But one's gotta admit that the cape Krennic wears is just fantastic in white , i don't know if it would look the same all in black on all in drab-olive :D
