I thought I would share my first troop with you all.
 
First Troop. Stollery Children’s  Hospital, Edmonton Alberta, Canada.
 
I don’t even know where to begin... nausea, nerves, excitement, fear and and absolute joy. This is what I experienced at my first troop. I can truly say that this is one of the most memorable days of my life. The pure joy that we brought to those wonderful children going through what may be one of the worst time of their little lives was amazing. There wasn’t a single person in the room that didn't have a smile.
 
We had parents comment on how they could not  remember when their child last smiled so much or that it was the most they were able to do in days. One little girl was dancing up a storm, laughing and playing the entire time. Her mother told us that the day before she wasn’t even walking and had no energy...don’t you know that she was one of the last kids to stay and play with us. Amazing!!!
We did have the opportunity to walk through some wards, where they were too unwell to make it out to see us. I seriously could have stayed all night with those kids.

I had the honour (Canadian spelling) of seeing and meet some wonderful members of my Garrison who took me in as one of their own from the moment I said “Hi, I’m the new guy.” They showed me what it is to be a member of the 501st. My only regret is that I didn’t join sooner.
 
now... the bad. I lost one of my code cylinders... but I have a set coming from Philo soon anyways.
 

 

I am a police officer so there is no end to the ribbing I take. However, when they tease me, I look them dead in the eyes and say, "Yes, I dress up as a Star Wars character and make sick kids feel better for a little while."
 
There is no retort for that. They just wander off and leave me smiling.
 
Just own it. Never let anyone think you are ashamed. All my co-workers have heard me talk about my endless collection of Star Wars collectibles and Lego sets. I proudly declare my fandom.

First 501st costume was Vader. I literally had it on for submission pictures, got approved and the next week I had my first troop. My feet were screaming (boots weren't broken in), I had no idea how things were supposed to fit (had everything to tight) almost hit a cold air vent, doorway and various other things (not taking into account I am over 7 feet tall with it on) after I put it on in the underground parking. No fans yet, walked around for 2 hours could barely move without people wanting a picture... had a blast!

My feet were screaming (boots weren't broken in), I had no idea how things were supposed to fit (had everything to tight) almost hit a cold air vent, doorway and various other things (not taking into account I am over 7 feet tall with it on) after I put it on in the underground parking. Today I had the pleasure of attending my first "troop" event with my Garrison.I was nervous but so excited.It was funny being the "who are you?" guy.
The event was for Autism in Alabama.A small crowd at a liitle community center in our county but to me it seemed like a million people where there...lol
The children were so cute and I wont forget their reactions.Truly put into perspective of why I spent so many hours putting together a simple outfit.I really did feel like a action figure that came to life...lol
My second event to attend will be at a  World of Wheels event which should be interesting given the size of that crowd.
