Question for all candidates ; How will you ensure that high standards are consistently maintained at the 501st for IOC applicants and that they are guided appropriately when GML approvals can often be variable at Garrison level? In short, how will you keep the local systems in line?

This question is for Robert. You have stated: "I am not asking for the forum to be shut down and I am glad it suits your needs, but it doesn’t suit the needs of most imperial officers in the legion.  This lack of service has meant that they go their own way and consult only with their garrisons.  A closed facebook group would not supplant what you get here.  It would add access for people that would not normally go here and provide them with a connection to the detachment.  A worth cause rather than them wandering the wilderness."
Considering the forum has over 6,000 members, and at minimum 200 active posters, I find your generalizations about "most imperial officers in the legion" to be glib, and frankly untrue. In ten years as an officer, I believe you have missed opportunities to connect with active members all over the world by not participating here. There is a method in place here for hopeful recruits to introduce themselves, find a dearth of information, and get help from active officers in creating the best costumes they can.
My question is this: How can that be achieved from a closed facebook group? For those that are on social media, we have a very active open facebook page, would you continue to see that remains accessible or would you close the group? If you operated two facebook pages and a forum simultaneously, would that not confuse new people more?

Agreed.  Having read Catalyst really enhanced my understanding of what was going on in the movie, as I watched Rogue One.  Frankly, I find it hard to believe that anyone who HASN'T read it is really grasping what all is going on, in the early parts of the movie.

Yes, you definitely do. It also gives you a lot of insight on how disposable the Empire considers you when you have finished your work or when it comes to stripping planets of it's resources to benefit itself. I think I appreciated it more after having seen Rogue One. Having a familiarity with Krennic, Galen, Lyra and Jyn made their characters a lot more interesting and made it easier to understand where each was coming from and where their actions in this book were leading them.

Jeff - Maybe now being familiar with the characters, the book will be more interesting to you. Give it a shot.

Here are all the ones that appeared in the Rogue one VD:

    Dir. Krennic
Early: 6 Red, single row (same as ANH General, refereed to as commander in Catalyst)
Late: 6 Red above 6 Blue, double row (ESB Admiral)

    Galen Erso
4 Amber, 1 Red, single row

    Line Officers
    General:
6 Red, single row (Sotorus Ramda)
6 Amber, single row (Hurst Romodi)

    Lieutenant:
2 Red, 1 Blue, Single row (Criden Valdas, Mytus Adema)

    Lieutenant, Junior Grade:
2 Blue, Single row (Tobix Chasser)

    Staff Officers
    Lieutenant:
3 Blue, single row (Milton Putna)

    ISB
    Inspector General:

And Pablo Hidalgo's comforting note: "Imperial Insignia [...] Sector-specific design schema creates a hodgepodge of non-uniform markings."

Also notice it is worn in two different ways: belted with a standard imp belt (hopefully) AND the other worn open over the full uniform!

I had to clear my line officer first with IOC to ensure it met the CRL, then went on to add the AT-AT Commander armour to that CRL spec and cleared with ACD. But the spec was basically the line officer CRL, plus the AT-AT Commander armour (unless I missed something?).

It would be nice to be part of IOC with the armour too, but Im guessing its too much crossover and by placing it at ACD it becomes definitive.

    Hmmm. Good question.

Shouldn't the CRL for the AT-AT Commander be referred to as something else? I feel like it's more accurately described as a form of battle-dress for Line Officers; Shouldn't the costume be like the 181st Dress Uniform and have a dual-inclusion in both the IOC and the ACD if, for no other reason, because 80% of the costume is just that of an Imperial Line Officer?

General Veers is shown to have an average Line Officer uniform, until the Battle of Hoth when he wears a chestplate and helmet over his uniform. So does that make him an Officer or an AT-AT Commander, and if the answer is "both" then why isn't the costume listed for both?

This is a seller on eBay who always seems to have everything and anything possible for costumes and accessories. However, due to several reports (not just in the 501st) of poor quality and customer service and in addition to legal issues originating in the United States, the costuming community recommends avoiding transactions with SFP.
Please note that this recommendation is not an official stance of any costuming group, including the 501st. The 501st traditionally maintains a hands-off policy regarding vendors -- it is not the 501st's business or mission to recommend, endorse, or warn against any specific vendor. This message is posted as a courtesy to the IOC community as a compilation of reviews and recommendations going back many years.

To put an end to it at my workplace I wore my TK to do a half marathon run for charity, supported by the company. I kitted up in the disabled toilet... to a big reveal! Everyone THEN wanted photos... even the Chief Executive holding my blaster! People now understand, especially as they saw the pinch marks on my skin after the run... in full kit. When TFA was out a lot of people genuinely asked where I was heading and which charities I was supporting so I guess now they understand the connection....

As an officer you should get into the spirit of it, a little bit of British pomp and ceremony and perhaps a little stern ordering of troopers.... to show what officers are all about.
    Then. You won't go unnoticed.

    Hello!
I am female, and I want to make the costume of my beloved General Hux. Would that be 501st approvable??

It is my intention to look like a man as much as possible: I don't have very big breasts and I will hide them with a compression shirt, so my torso should be mostly flat. And I will use make up so that my face looks masculine.
Will it be ok? I don't know if people have done crossplay in the 501st before, for face characters.

    Thanks!!

That's a tough one. The sole looks a bit thick and there is a slight sweep to the front of the top of the shafts. They still look like something out of the Star Wars universe.

I always recommend leather as I think it looks much better. These don't look too bad though. Good luck.
