  1. I had the honor and pleasure to represent the IOC at last Saturday's red carpet event at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood! We found out last week those in the California and guest garrisons that would be going to the Premiere, and learned late Friday that I would be allowed to wear my Warrant Officer throughout the program and after party as I had requested. I was stoked! Between 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, Mando Mercs, and Saber Guild, we had 120 uber fans, most in our patch jackets and swag, and about 14 of us in costume. The pre-Movie event was standing during the red carpet show, meeting stars and directors, and having an amazing time! I met Kevin Smith, watched Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion give an interview 2 feet away from me about the Star Wars universe, and got to see numerous stars from the film, like Donni Yen, who signed my pass!

At show time, we were led into the theater, which was beautiful, and up to the assigned seats we had on the Mezzanine. No spoilers, but the film is fantastic, and gives me a new perspective on the Disney/LFL team. It is THAT good. Officers, Naval Troopers, Gunners, and TIE Pilots are all featured heavily, and there's some new badges and officer configurations open to us! OBVIOUSLY, SEE IT.

After the film we were free to take pictures, walk the red carpet, look at the costumes and the MASSIVE XWING that was shipped from Pinewood Studios after being used in the film (and that will find it's home at a certain Disney Park.)!!!!

We then made are way to the after party in Avalon Ballroom, which was AMAZING! DJ was spinning 80's music and they were serving cocktails and champagne and lamb. There were photo booths to take poster pictures, and all the Legions were laughing at getting the night off and take pictures with Disney employees dressed as Shoretroopers and Death Troopers! This was fun for me especially since I was the only on still in uniform, so I got to take advantage of the props and sets! An hour until they were going to kick us out, I found the back tent where the 1:1 TIE FIGHTER BAR was located! I got to drink and talk with Gareth Edwards, and the editor Colin in depth about the film and they were interested in our impressions! Legion friends and stars mingled, and we were amazed at how polite, accepting, and humble the SW Film community was! This will be a hard event to get over! For the Love of the Empire, Biscuit

  2. I have rarely seen a pair of soviet boots work for officer, they don't have the right look and are not stiff enough. They don't have the quality of riding boots. Hessen Antique makes a German officer's riding boot custom that are much more close to the screen-used originals for around 200, if you have a normal size. Adding a strip of leather will prolong the pain and cost of trying to make these approveable. I would cut your losses, sell them, and put that money towards custom riding boots.

  3. This DH-17 is a nerf repaint according to the maker, and I think looks great. You can definitely use it for Naval Trooper and I see no problem carrying it as a staff officer, it is canon, also crewman would probably be fine. No line officer has a blaster except Veers in his armor, but i've worn one at cons and unofficial events anyway. It seems like a good buy, though secondary to boots and uniform obviously.

  4. So I finally had a troop in my area, and did two days at Modesto Con, which is a new event starting out in Lucas' hometown that i've been supporting. It has been too dang hot to troop in the Fresno area, with an average of 106 degrees most days this month, so it was nice to get out of town for a troop! These are photos not necessarily in IOC costume, but I decided to share here. I started helping to promote this event back in March with the Cosies Awards, and marched with Central Valley Costumers for Modestocon in Modesto's Fourth of July Parade. For MST3K fans, that's my wife Samantha dressed as one of the Mads, Pearl Forrester, which I finished sewing her tunic Saturday night. Enjoy!

  5. For those of us in the United States, today we honor our fallen soldiers and remember their sacrifices. I was able to attend a couple of events this weekend, including Hanford Safety Awarness Day, where kids demonstrated martial arts for an anti-bullying campaign, and today a 10K run called Help Carry the Load, which benefited families of fallen soldiers. I also got quite humorous yesterday in my rebel scum Endor disguise. Happy Memorial Day!
