We, the command staff, have discussed the Soviet Boots and have come to a decision.

Whilst they do not meet the requirements for Imperator Standard, the leather is too supple and their look and styling isn't consistent with English riding or equestrian boots. We have agreed they do look better than PVC riding boots that people traditional use for base clearance. As such we think they sit nicely in the Executor level - a marked improvement on PVC, but not up to the standard of English or equestrian riding boots, as seen in the films.

Hey Officers, Troopers, and Crew! I just finished and recently submitted my Veers (AT-AT Commander) armor uniform to ACD! I wanted to do Veers since I was a kid, he was my favorite Imperial in the best Star Wars movie! I finally got an opportunity to do it finding someone's well-priced, incomplete kit in one of my fb groups, just finished my paintjob this weekend:

So there are very few AC's in the legion; only 18 I could see at ACD detachment and some few here in the early IOC days, who has the kit still? Phil, I know you do, who else? I wanna do like we did with the Tarkin thread, just for fun, everybody show us your Veers armor if you have it!

The most crisp officer for me was General Veers from stance to movement and he gave a form of salute to Vader with his head bow, Motti on the other hand to me was a shambles slouching, hands in pockets etc so i try to emulate Veers poses posture movement

Alternatively a "tea-time" looks quite good as well (but you have to happen have a tea in your hand)

And when Vader walks by: "Would you care for a cup of tea, my Lord?"

When looking at Photobucket, from a PC, open the picture you want to use. Then, look at the lower right side of the page where there are options to copy & paste codes for the picture. Choose the one that says IMG. Paste it into the body of the reply & you should be good to go.

In regards to Ben's point about the Stormtroopers on Tatooine, though:
You have to remember that, while Tatooine is a backwater planet, it's still an entire planet ruled by the Empire. No matter how small the planetary garrison of a world is you can guarantee that there will be at least a small contingent of Stormtroopers present on the planet. The theft of the Death Star plans would definitely be an event of significant enough important to see those units mobilized. With positive leads (the escape pod, discovery of droids, Jawa abduction, and the presence of a Jedi in Mos Eisley) the powers-that-be wouldn't want anyone but the Empire's finest leading the charge and that's exactly who did. Their presence in and of itself, though, doesn't discount the existence of Army Trooper personnel being stationed on the planet.

Planets like Tatooine and Hoth are exactly the kinds of planets you would expect to see the Stormtrooper Corp deployed to in large amounts, though, in spite of their backwater natures. The harsh terrain of such a planet almost demands the environmental resilience presented by Sandtroopers. Imperial Army Troopers would require an inordinate amount of supplies to execute the same mission. The combination of their non-elite stature and surplus of supplies needed to undertake a desert patrol, too, would make them prime candidates for ambushes by smugglers or Sand People.

For Imperial Army Troopers the roleplaying game always gave me the impression that they served mostly on more temperate, densely populated, or rebellious worlds. Their plentiful numbers, ease of training, and low cost to maintain make them the ideal force to throw at enemy positions and soften the enemy up for Stormtroopers to blitz in and bring the Empire's justice.

I believe this was how it was SUPPOSED to be. At the same time, though, I don't think that the vast majority of Star Wars fans cares anywhere near enough to even know Army Troopers were supposed to exist. They just see the "bad guy in cool armor" and decide that he's what every ground troop in the Empire looks like... despite ample evidence to the contrary. It's a frustrating process.

It is funny that even in the card game they show the Army Officer commanding stormtroopers! I have thought about the Imperial Army trooper a lot over the years and having been at reenactments in the mud and eating rations, I like the idea of a non-elite ground pounder. I imagined the Veers breastplate with no rank and helmet in od green, no backplate but a green army rucksack, and a larger rifle like the rebels' A-117 or whatever that thing is. A jumpsuit in the field isn't really practical; I always imagined green fatigues, like a sheriff's department tactical uniform. Jackboots and web gear and a sleeve compad, you're there.
This type of load-out would be practical in long recon or occupation missions where you would need more gear, a higher level of camouflage, and more stealth and visibility. From what we have seen in the movies, though this concept has merit, these types of soldiers do not exist. Stormtroopers are the infantry of the Empire, though they are supposed to be only Naval shock troops and boarders, like Marines, we see them pulling guard duty and policing Tatooine, a backward outer rim world. The Empire does not choose camouflage or subtlety, they rule by fear, and their soldiers are recognizable and have a faceless menace to them. They are Army and Navy, and though I believe they are impractical for extended ground combat, the canon Star Wars universe doesn't provide an alternative. We trust in Fear and Heavy Armor, the Rebel Alliance uses camo and stealth. If there were similarly attired Imperial Army Troopers on Endor, that battle might have gone differently I would love to see your take on the ground pounder, but be aware you may not be recognized. I find the whole subject fascinating!

Yeah, I still can't imagine the board meeting that took place where they decided because of this incident, lets stop selling toy guns.

Maybe they still sell them at Disney stores in the malls.  Or maybe we can find them on liquidation sale somewhere.

I'm an Imperial Officer. The crowd usually doesn't see the distinction. Being a face instead of a helmet, you kind of speak for who you are with. I have been at troops where there are 4-5 stormtroopers, so I am their officer in charge, like a platoon leader. I hang out with alot of TIE pilots too, and in my black uniform i'm their tactical officer. Staff Officers, which really only existed as we know them in ANH, are identified as Lieutenant (4 blue tiles) and Commander (4 blue 2 amber) and I always like to think of the tasks that an O-1 to an O-5 would receive. They are leaders of stormtroopers and pilots, man important stations such as the gantry in the Death Star hanger bay, and directly report to Vader. This means you can be smug, self important, exacting, or you can play off of those expected qualities and be completely bumbling, based on your personal character and the crowd you're playing for.

This is a questions that has plagued us for a long time.
The movies, from one to the next, tend to give us conflicting or inconclusive info.
Trading cards, character encyclopedias, and other loosely relevent publications haven't been very clear either.
Stormtrooper Officers (Grand Army of the Empire) and Imperial Star Fleet Officers (The Imperial Space Navy) probably describe them best. The EU was quick to replace "Star Fleet", (as twice heard in ANH) simply with "Navy", to avoid any confusion with Star Trek.
The terms "line and staff", in the real world, are exactly as you describe them. IOC-wise, it was just a case of someone (long before I came along as DL) labeling them that so they'd have some kind of working identity besides "green and black". We never had enough fuss to change it, so we didn't.
We can also look back to John Mollo's thoughts on the uniform designs. According to him, In ANH, the black officers were "Vader's Men", based heavily on Nazi SS forces, and the green were more like "Regular Army" forces, sharing the same fieldgrau colored uniforms common during WWII. Those distinctions faded in ESB, and ROTJ, giving them more of an Army/Navy relationship. Also note that General Officers (and possibly other higher ranking army officers) conform to the olive green uniforms of their naval counterparts, possibly adding merit to the line/staff titles.

Hello Chris! I had to struggle myself with boots; I needed size 11 with a 19 inch calf, so it took me a year to find them, and they were a deal at $225. Real leather riding boots in the dressage style with no zipper are very traditional and are getting hard to come by, so patience is a virtue, especially with a large calf. If you want to hop straight in to L2/L3, it is going to cost more than basic approval. To get into the 501st you can get vinyl funtasma captains boots with inside calf zippers and converted chalk holders, and replace these things later, as many of us have done. They just don't look screen accurate enough for the higher levels, and to achieve that level of authenticity, you have to buy higher quality items. I can tell you after wearing cheap boots that the level of comfort and durability goes up significantly along with the price, and it is the most valuable purchase you can make doing officer. You will hate trooping if you're on your feet all day and your boots hurt you. It will take time and money, but if you put into it it will give back ten fold mate. Good luck!
