The rain capes are very cool, and go much further down on the body than I expected which is awesome. Actually useful. I want one for trooping.

Same here-- not raining, just really cold! I was sad I didn't buy the leather gauntlet-gloves in preparation for the movie, my hands were so cold.

Yes, it is good, fun and full of great little Easter eggs and surprises. No spoilers. That and I am looking forward to a CRL on the coats and Officer capes or cloaks. They were cool. We gotta get them Jared.

I went to the local theatres and, without even planning it, joined a cadre of other Star Wars cosplayers in taking pictures. I was wearing my unfinished Staff Officer uniform, and stood alongside a couple TKs and Jedis and the like.. Unfortunately didn't get a picture of my own, but will post it as soon as I inevitably find myself tagged on Facebook!

Here's my official, no-spoilers review of the movie:

It's good You should see it.
I'm mostly excited by the variety of new CRLs the 501st will see from this movie: Death Troopers, Shore Troopers, Imperial Ground Crew, Imperial Armored Crew, Imperial Officer coats, Director Krennic, and a few others.

Many people try to use the McCall's M 4745 Civil War pattern for the tunic. I don't recommend it because the shoulders of the sleeves are weird. The instructions are also a little bit difficult to follow.  https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/product-search?ref=M4745

Some people use the Butterick B6340 pattern for the jodhpurs trousers. https://butterick.mccall.com/b6340

I suggest using Hawk's pattern from the forum for the tunic. http://www.imperialofficer.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4491-imperial-officer-id-sewing-tutorial/

If you want to use the McCall's M4745 pattern as a base I recommend following Char Tozard steps. He did a very good job with his uniform.

Here is a Youtube-videoclip tutorial on how to assemble PDF downloadable patterns from Reconstructing History. I still think that the marking system isn't good and way to much work.

I also forgot to mention more things that I liked about the pattern. The 11 page instructions include 2 pages on the history of the uniform and 2 pages intructions on period stitches, which I found interesting and helpful.

Space Bear was episode VIII's production code name (I believe Rogue One was called Los Alamos) so they were probably for something completely different.

Oh, and here's a huge version of a still that was released today. I'm not noticing anything particularly new in it, but I figured it was worth throwing in here just in case.

Man, what I wouldn't give for a big side view with the cape fully unfurled...

Magnoli is a custom clothing shop which hand-tailors fine clothing.  They do everything from bespoke suits to detailed wardrobe recreations.  They're highly respected in the industry.  Based in New Zealand.  Their customer service is top notch, and they bend over backwards to get every last detail right, and make the customer very happy.  That said, they're also pretty stupendously expensive, compared to other sources.  Somewhat a case of "you get what you pay for."  You'd have to contact them to see how long their current delivery estimate for a uniform might be.  I can nearly guarantee you'll be thrilled with the end product, IF you can afford it.

The Anovos uniform looks very good, in photos, and they tend to make pretty high quality pieces, so it's entirely possible their kit will be excellent.  But no one has ever seen a finished, non-prototype uniform in person, because they don't exist yet.  Further, they have a TERRIBLE track record for delivering items on the timeline they promise on their website.  (There are people who have ordered armor from them a YEAR ago who still have not received theirs.)  And their customer service is, let's just say, "spotty".  At best.  So you might do well with them (eventually...) or you might have an on-going nightmare.  No real way to know which way things will go with these particular uniforms until they actually start shipping the pieces people have paid for.

The other option that's quite popular in my area (SoCal) is Cosplay Sky.  They are NOT PERFECT.  Even with their added-cost "custom size" option, you are almost certain to need to take it to a local tailor for alterations.  That said, the starting point is SO inexpensive that this usually works out quite well.  My wife's total cost is looking to be well under $200 (not including hat and accessories, but including the post-purchase tailoring), since she got hers on sale, and mine wasn't much over that.  If you go that route, be sure to select the "New" Officer's uniform, as the others are not constructed to 501st standards.  They generally deliver to SoCal in 11-12 days, based on the two I've ordered (and a couple others I know who had similar delivery timeframes).  (Note: Their hat is NOT approvable... if you go with the green Line Officer you'll need to buy some extra fabric from them so it matches, and have it made elsewhere.  For the black officer hats, there are a number of more easily-obtained options that match just fine.)

As for obtaining all the other various pieces, boots tend to be the most difficult to get right, depending on your budget.  If you can smile while buying $500 equestrian boots, there should be no problem.  If you're going to wince at finding $100 used boots, it's going to take some searching.

All the rest of the parts (belt, code cylinders, belt boxes) can easily be purchased here, from people selling the parts in the sales forums.

Not strictly CRL related but I've been in touch with Clothears Costumes who also make excellent line and staff officer uniforms, and they're close to taking orders once they've sourced the rest of the materials.

Reconstructinghistory.com has a sale on their historic patterns. The downloadable ones are going for $9.95 and the regular ones for about $15 - $20. These patterns usually go for about $30. I haven't worked with their pattern yet but some of them look like they could be a good base for officer uniforms.

    Ladies' jodhpurs
Men's 1916 royal flying corps officers jacket and coat (This one could work, with minor changes, for ANH uniforms ISB, warrant officer and navy trooper)
Men's victorian era army frock coat (This one looks similar to version A of the McCall's M4745 but perherps without the puffy shoulders)
Men's 1910s military trench coat (This one could work, with minor changes, for ANH uniforms ISB, warrant officer and navy trooper)

For short, feminine styles, you can also take a look at Arihnda Pryce, with her bob. I usually keep my hair in more of a pixie cut or shorter, so keeping it neat or out of the way isn't an issue. Many of the women officers wear their hair in buns near the nape of the neck, from the art and onscreen characters I've seen. It looks nicer and neater than a ponytail, in my opinion.

I've done measuring of the badge on 3 different photos using gimp based on the code cylinder diameter of 0.6". Here's what I've gathered:
The buttons are 1/2" x 3/4", matching what was used in the OT. However I do not think they are the EAO series 01 buttons that many have used in the past, as the colors are brighter and more clear (more like EAO series 31/51/61) The badge itself is 2" in height, with a cut down the middle. The buttons are spaced with 1/8" gaps to all sides, for a total length of 3 7/8" Based on that I think the CRL should allow all current badges for L1. L2 would require a single piece of 2" metal (with no requirement for the cut). L3 requires cut 2" metal, with button covers.

Has anyone else done this? I'd be interested in comparing results.
