    Hello everyone,

Check out the trailer for a fan film that I was honoured to be part of and spread the word! I've seen the final cut already and it's great!:

Same here, admittedly for both you and I it's just the science officer without the shirt cuffs and a wider variety of rank options hahaha
But I mentioned the possible costume to some of my local members and they got really excited for it feeling like there's finally an officer suit they can actually do

There's a lot of work being put into using the tabs to help out with tons of other costumes right now.

This has probably been discussed to exhaustion, but as someone newish here, and as a historical re-enactor, figured it was a fun topic.

I know the general theory is that Lucas modeled officers from both Second World War German uniforms and those from F - 451.

Interestingly though, the Imperial Officer tunic is nearly identical to the tunic worn by British and Commonwealth pilots of the First World War, was referred to as a "maternity tunic" due to its odd shoulder closure.

Some pictures of me in a modern reproduction of an Australian Flying Corps Lieutenant, wearing the above tunic.  Remove the Collar and Epaulets, and it should look VERY familiar

PArmstr got a reaction from bobafett4ever in Possible IN dress uniform ANH / warrant officer ANH CRL
Well the navy trooper dress uniform ANH and the warrant officer ANH need to be a separate CRL due to the fact that their tunic is unique. I think we could put the Rogue One navy trooper in the same CRL because its tunic is similar enough.

There is no reason to change the CRL of flight suit variant of the navy trooper. The currant CRL covers ANH,E SB and ROTJ.

The navy trooper dress uniform ESB could be in the same CRL as the ROTJ version. Perhaps we could put those and the warrant officer ROTJ in the same CRL similar how I have done with this CRL proposal.

The old staff officer CRL could be changed into the Rogue One staff officer CRL.

The Rogue One ISB and the ANH ISB need two separate CRLs do to major differences in the tunic.

I think having many different CRLs is less confusing than having only a few CRLs with many different options in them.

I need to open by saying I could not have drafted this pattern without the help/photos Ellen Streichfuß provided, and the helpful tutorial thread by Joey Lim. I just wanted to drop photos of my work here in case it is helpful!

Your measurements will vary! These are based off my measurements but this should give you a better idea of the pattern pieces & proportions.

    Front bottom layer:

Note: The finished bottom layer sits roughly 3" higher than the finished middle/top layer.

    Front middle layer:

Note: The flat-felled seams belong to the top layer, I just show them here for the sake of positioning.
Feel free to give yourself MORE of a bleed at the sides if you would like. I had to measure extremely carefully. If that worries you, feel free to make the bleeds a whole 2"!
To make the pocket I Just traced the left side but stopped 5" into the pattern. (so 2" for a nice large bleed, 1" for the side thing, 2" for the pocket)

    Front top:

I kept calling them flat-felled seams but honestly I just wound up folding them under, pinned it to the middle, and sewed it down roughly 1/4" from the edge. I was going to get fancier but the more I looked at the refs and what others were doing the less I felt it was necessary.

This is how the entire top looks together:

It's clearer here how the back sits 3" higher than the front.
Also there's no good way (I found) for me to tell you how to position the pocket & position this on the yoke. I did the yoke first and just kind of pinned the front where I thought it looked good and eyeballed the top of the pocket. This is kind of why I didn't do a full step-by-step tutorial. A lot of this is just "hold it up and see if it looks okay".  Same goes for where exactly you attach this piece to your yoke. When I was planning the above pieces, I wasn't sure of the length measurement, I wound up just kind of winging it by putting the finished yoke on top of my tunic then measuring from the front center of the yoke to roughly where I thought the front should fall. I added 3" to the bottom of the top, pocket & middle pieces so I could fold them under and attach it to the bottom piece, so there's no top seam.  (again this is was so, ridiculously, winged)

    Yoke back:

So I feel bad, I should have put the pattern weights on this one because it's actually 18.5" wide. It just came up a little short because the folds weren't flat enough, sorry about that. The size will vary depending on your shoulder width, but this is the gist of the shape!

    Front left:

    Front top right:

I decided to put a slight curve into mine. I liked it better when I was mocking up my test fabric on the mannequin. I thought it looked a little closer to the reference photos I was looking at. I'm not 100% sure if this is how they did it, or if it's actually straight and the camera was playing tricks on me. So feel free to cut it in whichever way looks best to you personally!

    Front bottom right:

This goes under the top piece, the top piece will snap/velcro down to this.

Roughly how the front goes together:

I put a HUGE bleed in the front center because  I knew I had to top-stitch and I was afraid of not catching the fabric beneath it. Turned out to be a non-issue and I could have made that bleed smaller, oops.

The neck is just a folded-over strip that's roughly 3" (so 6" total then fold it) so I didn't make or include a pattern piece for it. I have a quilting ruler I just traced for that purpose!

I was going to post my cape but HONESTLY I like charlyselo's cape better. His tutorial wasn't live when I did my poncho, otherwise I would have used his method in this thread here.

    Here's my final.

This is highly possible. Just my 2 cents: I suggest we move forward with it as-is & just update it as-needed, if EPVIIII provides any new info on it, i.e. rank title, back details, ect.
Exactly. We have plenty of OT costumes that have been retconned from one rank/title to another once new canon came out. We can still see the physical costume & replicate that (which has been done), if not the correct/exact title for it. No reason this costume will be different. Perhaps make it a variant for now, since someone has actually made the costume, and not just talked about it and expected a CRL to somehow pop up without a model. I say we go with it.

I think that we should not add things that we cannot see on screen. Peter Crushing wore slippers in ANH in scenes where you could only see his upper body because his boots were to tight for his big feet. We know that but slippers are not an optional item in the CRL for Grand Moff Tarkin.

Before you guys decide by which method you want to sort the CRLs, you need to know your audience.
Some people see a movie and think "Woah, I want an uniform like him!", those need a list sorted by movie, as they maybe don't know what kind of Officer that person is. All they know is, that he/she looks cool. Mostly those are the people who want to join the 501st or the IOC.
Some people want an uniform with a special image or want an uniform to extend their wardrobe. Those need a list sorted by department/rank. These are people that already are in the IOC and know most ranks etc. by heart.

I have the impression, that it's easier for beginners to sort it by movie. Not everyone knows if  the Uniform they want to wear is Navy or Security or something else.
As I'm fairly new myself, I don't have the knowledge about every CRL like you guys have, so I can provide a viewpoint from outside.

For anyone agonizing too much about being a friendly officer, remember Rogue One gave us officers on Jedha who smiled, faffed about with their friends, and even played dice if I remember it right. Also, the  first Solo teaser gave us this friendly fellow.

IMHO, first, General Veers is not just an AT-AT Commander.  He's an armored officer (prepared for combat) that is on the AT-AT because those were the vehicles granted to him for his assault.  He is clearly giving troop orders.  You could easily have inserted him into any vehicle, and/or inserted any officer into that position.  If he had sub-officers with him, I believe they would have worn the same battle ready armor as well.  I think having him as a CRL as AT-AT Commander is incorrect, and should be renamed as Armored Imperial Line Officer (or something like that), and moved from ACD to IOC.  I'm sure folks will disagree and that is ok.  I just don't see it any other way.

The ACD should be for Imperial/F.O. pilots/drivers (whatever name you prefer) navigating a vehicle.  All their CRLs are just that, except the random AT-AT Commander.  It just doesn't make sense.  And granted, I understand at one time they only had like 4 CRLS, and IOC had 25+, so it was nice to share.  But now they've received more, and the random officer in armor (AT-AT Commander) should be updated and correctly categorized (back to IOC).

The IOC should have any officer, armored or not.  I'm not a part of the ACD, but I'd go out on a limb to say that I don't believe the "spirit" of the ACD is to have folks in armor.  And, if that is the case, then then why our officer and no other troops wearing armor?

We would, in theory, have Veers, Tarkin, Thrawn, Pryce, and any other generic Line Officer or generic governor or grand admiral whom needed to wear armor for combat readiness.

Looking even to see if there is anything to trade to them, I don't think currently.  Probably could throw one or two to JRS, but that's another discussion.

And honestly, does it really matter where the AT-AT commander goes? You can do him regardless of which detachment he's in. However, future armored officers like Thrawn, Tarkin or Pryce should be ours

PArmstr reacted to bobafett4ever in Possible IN dress uniform ANH / warrant officer ANH CRL
    Patricia,
You've been doing a great job and a lot of work.  I'm trying to piggyback off of some of your posts to help get confirmation so you can get some of these updates or new CRLs to light.
I confirmed with David Crossman (and I think we already knew this but it's always great to have confirmation with someone that works on these items) that the Navy Troopers in R1 and Solo are wearing the same tunic as seen in ANH.  He still calls them the fireman's tunic, but at least we know it IS different from the Staff Officers.  So only the Navy Troopers in ESB and RotJ are wearing the black Staff Officer's uniform.
I hope we can get these cleaned up - it's so hard trying to explain to new recruits.
  24. Thanks
PArmstr reacted to bobafett4ever in Possible ISB ANH CRL
Because I knew you had worked to create this, and I had an ANH ISB agent (that I figured wasn't really screen accurate) and a R1 ISB Agent, I thought I'd see if David Crossman could chime in.

I asked ... "In ANH, the ISB agents seen on the Death Star, are they wearing a modified Russian Imperial Army Officer’s Summer Tunic?  It’s very hard to see exactly the seams and cuts since the lighting was wonky in 1977 and even these characters were mostly in the background.  We’re assuming they’re either a cream color, or maybe off-white and just bad lighting."

His response was... "I don’t know the exact answer ... I’m afraid, but thats probably a correct assumption."

    So I did try.

I would love to see the ANH and R1 split out as they clearly are a different tunic.  Only makes sense not to lump them together as it's not just a difference in the accessories.

Thank you for reminding us of the reasons why we have a generic Science Officer CRL instead of a Galen Erso Science Officer CRL. Even though I was part of that discussion I completely forgot about it. I agree with most of what you wrote, the only thing that I would suggest is to make the white shirt cuff an optional item instead of a mandatory one. We cannot see white shirt cuffs in the screencaps of the party in SOLO.
