  1.

BarbarianStartrouper, requesting an advisor in the Raleigh,NC area for help with a staff officer costume.

Hi Barbara, I'm Mike and I'll be your IOC Advisor. I'll be sending you a message shortly and welcome to the IOC!

  2. Since the newbies seem a bit shy about stopping by here, I'm going to break the ice by being an Advisor asking advice from other Advisors!  My wife is thinking about going the ISB route as a first costume and she's looking at the uniform from CPS:

Since I'm not familiar with this particular uniform from them, I'm looking to see if anyone else has feedback on it?

  3. I've seen some great ideas out there for how folks are transporting their Officer gear and I wanted to see what I could assemble on a budget.  Here's my $35 solution that replaces the duffel bag that I've been using:

The box is a Sterilite 40G wheelie for $22 at Walmart.  It's smaller and much lighter than my Husky armor box and as you can see holds my boots, all of my Officer gear, and even a collapsible garment stand to hang things up when dressing.  Bonus, the inside of the lid is a great place to display patches:

The small box was $5 at Target plus another $8 for the chair padding foam from JoAnne's.  I cut out insets from the foam and this made the perfect storage box for all of the accessories on the first layer and then my Krennic pistol on the second layer:

The box will also hold my Staff Officer uniform in it's garment bag when folded in half.  It will not hold the Krennic cloak bag, but then again nothing will! :-)

  4. Right now I use this large duffel bag to carry my boots, hat, basically everything but the uniform itself (which is in a garment bag)

Rank bars and code cylinders are in a small shaving kit pouch in the duffel bag, but I believe I'll order one of these small camera boxes to give them more protection. It should still fit in the big bag.

  5. So you've got all of your accessories and gear in the box. I'm assuming the uniform in a garment bag? What about the boots?

For Celebration I've got my TK and Krennic gear in the same rolling bin, bucket in a separate bag and uniform in garment bag. Probably the only time I'll be taking both of those to the same event!

  6. I would say except for approval photos and individual characters that we know don't wear glasses (Tarkin, Krennic, etc), it should be ok.  I wear contacts most of the time but sometimes need to break out the glasses.  Whenever I do though it always makes me think that the Empire can build robotic limbs that look and work like the real thing, faster than light engines, and moon size space stations that can blow up planets.  The Empire can do all of this and yet the LASIK procedure still eludes us! :-)

  7. As one of those folks who now appears to have spent money on a useless rank bar from Tiggie, obviously I'm disappointed that this wouldn't be acceptable for level 1 as it's such a small difference. I'm all for accuracy and pushing to make our uniforms as good as possible, but I also thought that was the purpose of the various levels within a costume. It appears that this decision has been made now though and I'll need to get to work making my own rank bar.

  8. I know this has come up before but I want to confirm now that we have a CRL and updates to it are being discussed. Can a rank bar from Tiggie as I have below be approved for level 1:

The push button distinction seems very minor to me at level 1, but if that's the absolute decision then I would like to know as I'll need to find another one. Thanks!

  9. For all 3 candidates:

For many troopers, an IOC uniform is their first one in the 501st (it was for me!).  Unfortunately I've met some troopers that once they get that first set of armor done though, it's goodbye to the officer or crewman, never to be seen again.  What are your thoughts on keeping IOC members engaged with their costumes, to work to upgrade them or to build new ones even after they have other 'exciting' detachment costumes?  (Not saying my Staff Officer isn't exciting, that goes without saying! )

  10.

As an FYI, it has been submitted to LMO per the last conversation I had with BJ - so let's not spam his mailbox please - if he or the LMO need something else they'll let me know, but from what I was told it's at Legion level at the moment.

That's excellent news! I decided to wait until the CRL was published before moving forward with my build. I'm not in a hurry and don't want to risk spending time and money building something that wouldn't be approved.

Question though for those in the know. Will there be a alternative version on the CRL for Krennic in raincoat and cap vs cloak? Just curious how that will work if someone wants to do one over the other.

  11. So about the hat again, could you wear the hat without the funky rain 'poncho'? Clearly we know he owns a hat and this would help some prospective Krennic's with the hair issue if theirs is not quite right. Thoughts?
