lantern2745 reacted to BLACKFOX in TIP: Stretching Boots...
So.. for my 100th post within the forum, I thought that I would share a tip that I received from a Cobbler to stretch my boots and fix a part of the leather that was curling inwards.

He told me to soak the leather with Rubbing Alcohol and then use something like newspaper or in my case my feet to stretch the boots out. I ended up soaking the inside of the boot with the rubbing alcohol in the areas that need to be stretched and then walked around the house for a few hours. I was amazed how fast it worked and comfortable the boots are now.

I did have to shine/buff the boots again, but I consider that fun.

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. Just thought I'd give my thoughts on this.
I've never seen a stretch panel in that particular spot, so this is new to me. I'll have to start checking for those.
Stretch panels are specifically mentioned in the CRL because all the ones I've ever seen were on the back, side, or somewhere very obvious, making the boots look inaccurate. As mentioned, zippers on the inner shaft are allowed because they are basically out of plain sight. I think this detail might also fall into that out of sight category & we need to take a look at that. The thought behind it's placement is seemingly the same as having a zipper there, in my opinion. I would say those are fine for basic approval at least. If you can find better ones, or have this detail modified by a cobbler, that's great, but please feel free to quote me in saying I think these are ok for basic.

I use this technique and left a slit in the collar to remove the plastic bit when I go to clean the uniform. Slide a new one in if it breaks. Most clothing stores have lots of it lying around. I have 5-10 stashed for each cleaning. Only real adjustments I do is curve and painters tape the edges so the plastic does not tear apart the collar from the inside.

    Thanks!

They look the part. Are they leather, and is there a zipper?
If the answers are yes and no in that order, I'd think they'll pass muster.
If the answer is yes and yes, then the zipper needs to be on the inside.
I'm sure someone else will chime in, but they look good to me.

He should be able to order a yard of matching fabric for like 20 bucks. Then have a local tailor/seamstress make a new "skirt" section.
    I think.

Maybe what we need is a new detachment of Imperial Enlisted Corps.
Bridge Crew, Scanning Crew, Maintenance Crew, Ground Crew, Navy Troopers, etc.

I finally got fed up and cancelled my order.  I had a black and an olive hat for myself, and a black hat for a friend.  I scored a pair of XL MUR black hats at the two for one on eBay for my buddy, cause his melon is huge.
Now I'm waiting for the fabric from cosplaysky to arrive so I can send it to Gina and have a hat that matches perfect.
Basically, what I should have done from the get go.
Good luck to the folks who stick it out though!

Can we just add a cape as an approved 'add on' for any Officer? I'm sure they had them, it was just back in the closet in their quarters. Who's with me??

    Shockwave,
Not to put too fine a point on things, but making an official petition seems like kicking the hornets nest.
I'm just as tired of the delays as anyone, but I don't think any good can come from that route.
In fact I worry that something along those lines might make the Mouse put the clamps on unlicensed vendors.
So although I echo your sentiment, it is my opinion that your petition should be removed for the greater good.
Respectfully yours, Jeff in Green Bay

That's true. I got a mini warehouse of OT TK armor kits. But those were to my knowledge, the only things that Anovos has delivered on time.

    Continue...
    So in conclusion:
Here are the pros and cons I found for both the Leather Sheen and the Resolene:
    LEATHER SHEEN
    Pros:
    1. Easily applied
    2. No applicator required
    Cons:
    1. More expensive ($14.99)
    2. Doesn't stop all dye bleeding
    3. Doesn't waterproof as well
    RESOLENE
    Pros:
    1. Cheaper ($7.99)
    2. Waterproofs better
    3. Stops almost all dye bleeding
    Cons:
    1. Must purchase seperate applicator
    2. Harder to apply and more messy
In conclusion, Resolene seems to be the much better solution to seal leather belts. The finishes seemed to look the same after drying. Resolene waterproofs both the rough and smooth side better. The water droplets never seemed to absorb into the leather on either side and stayed pooled in a droplet. Unfortunatly the sample with the Leather Sheen absorbed the water almost immediately on the rough side. It also stopped almost all traces of dye bleeding after applied. There was still noticeable dye bleeding with the Leather Sheen. I will definatly be using the Resolene for any leather finishing or waterproofing needs.
*Special thanks to Kris for the Resolene suggestion*
I hope this will help anyone in anyway with similar questions or needs. Let me know if you have any questions.

FYI, Hessens riding boots do not run Large like their website says, they actually run small.   If you click on the tab that says "size table"  you can see the actual inch measurement.  For example a Euro size 45/US 12 they have marked as 10 7/8"  this is really more like a Euro 45/US 11.   I just got a pair of 45 second hand off of ebay and I am going to have to return them to the seller because they are way too small. Normally a Euro 45 fits me fine.
