Now that we have cups, we need to advocate for canon sunglasses. Maybe we can get some space aviators or something.

I appreciate the offer, but Josh is in my garrison and will be getting a piece to me soon.

You  can read the entire history and development here chronologically starting with page one here.  The thread and initial posts was created by an LMO at the same time the visual guides were released with the Rise of Skywalker premier in December of 2019.

In March of 2020 a cadet (a person not a fully approved member of the legion) was announced to be working on a costume.  The cadet started showing their work and progress taking direction and advice from members, the staff and the LMO who started the thread.  By July the body of the costume was mostly finished.  Only a few items remained.

By October 2020, the costume was finsihed and the Cadet was ready to submit.  They were not aware of the process of getting permission from the LMO office prior to starting and no one had explained this to them.  The LMO clears a costume to proceed.... it gets made by the applicant.  A CRL is written and if it is written well and the costume is of sufficient quality it is published as a CRL.

The first visible pass of a CRL text is in February 2021 by the applicant.

A full CRL text is posted by the applicant in March 2021 when my administration came into office.  That is when the questions started about the back seam of the tunic.  Ironically, a German garrison member at this time pointed out the back seams on the Lego minifig of the character (which turned out to be right).   The final CRL text was shown at the end of March 2021.

In April I brought in one of the head LMOs to see what we could do to get things started.  He came in and stated that the LMO office now voted on if costumes could proceed.  This was a new development.  The second thing was he wished we had involved the LMO office from the start (the thread was created by the other head LMO and mostly commented on by him up to that point).  We were then involved that there was not enough views for the CRL to proceed and it was placed on hold.

And the entire thread went bananas including the previous detachment leader calling foul.
Was the LMO in the right to make this decision? Yes, they are the final arbiter.  Was it right.  I didn't think so.  A lot of people didn't think so.  And there was really no indication that this would be stopped until I came into office.

Another LMO who is active in the detachment made a statement of support and a suggestion for getting it cleared.  They took down their post and resigned their position.

Over the next month into May a number of members and staff that had been very pro creation for this costume, came out against it in the same thread.  The blame for this decision was placed on the entire LMO office that voted.  It should be noted that this team is different than this past year's LMO team.  Other detachment leaders that do not have IOC costumes created accounts and came in flummoxed at the decision.   There was arguments over the people that were for the CRL being paused as they were involved in the publishing of CRLs that didn't have the same references.  Old wounds got opened over that and that is why some bring up some CRLs periodically and ask if they can be removed for a lack of references.   Promises to check sources and find out conclusively what the detail of the lower back of the tunic were made, but nothing was revealed.

The following year in 2022 I reached out to our Legion Commanding Officer Justin Sonfield and told him the history of this CRL's development.  I said it was outrageous that this one detail would prevent it from being published.  I stated the cadet was prepared to make any change that would be revealed from finding out this detail.  I asked them if they would speak to LFL about it.  Justin did and explained the situation.  LFL was not able to provide a reference photo, but Justin was able to show them a line of of many tunic back seams.  It was something of a police line up, but LFL fingered the one they said was correct.  It turned out to be the same seams on the LEGO minifig.  The cadet made modifications to their tunic and we were able to submit.  The LMO office accepted it and it was published.  That happened under @mrrikki LMO administration and I have admired his commitment to get things created.  Both him and Justin Sonfield are committed to a pro costume growth platform.

Because a reference was missing for the back, the LCO got the reference and we Green lit the crl. This was a great achievement getting the reference.

Also we then proposed to change the rules so this wouldn’t happen again, this got through council and a vote changing the rules for RLA costumes passed. So a really positive result.

Here are mine coffeee tumblers. They're not perfect, I use a silver tape and cardboard, but I think it will be fine for some time.

Good to know, yeah, that should be ok with water.  Probably not the dishwasher, but I don't think these cups are dishwasher safe anyway.

Currently debating between the tape and E6000.  E6000 would let the panel hug the cup closer.  And it's fine getting wet.  Seal would need to be *perfect* though, else liquid could get trapped underneath and get moldy.

I am convinced this is not just foil tape or vinyl. It has depth and the texture us too smooth.
You do not need to remove the COFFEE writing. Just stick something over it.

    I'm finally happy with this.

I used a K & S 87163 Stainless Steel Strip .025 x 1/2inch, cut to 4 inches for the "large" cup, and applied 3M automotive trim tape to it after beveling the edge with a dremel and file.

So I had an idea to cover up the coffee logo. I'm planning on cutting up a comm pad to make the 'thermal beverage condensator control'.  This is just a mock up with a extra scout snout.

It wont be happening anytime soon.  People don't realize the amount of work, time and money that goes into forming and running  a detachment.

Understand that the army troopers of Andor are all green.  They are part of the imperial military: navy and army.  They are commanded by imperial military officers in green.

The guys in black are the security services.  Enlisted and officers.  They are NOT the military.  They are part of the political party directly connected to the Emperor.  Eventually they will take over all of the Imperial military, have their own star destroyers and command legions... but not just yet.

The ISB is an agency adjacent to the security services. And both of them have very specific goals.

Palbo Hildalgo made it very clear with the first few episode of Andor... the organizational structure of the empire the ISB, the security services and COMPNOR are being taken directly from THIS book.

We posted a PDF copy of it not so long ago.  If you want to see how it is organized you can.

The legion has a history of fan created names for things, but that doesn't mean that is what the productions call them or how they are used from a lore standpoint.

But from a costume structure standpoint, these are the same costumes as the army troopers just in black.

Given that Spec Ops has been given the Andor army trooper I'd assume they'll also get this?  It is exactly the same uniform and armour as the army trooper bar the colour, it makes sense to have them together.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with this. We see tem working directly for the ISB during the torture scenes, bringing the prisoners in and out. They are providing security at the CorpSec officer when they kicked everyone else. This means dedicated ISB security forces to me.

Ah, THOSE guys.  I suspect we'll have to fight with the detachment got the muddies (Special Ops) for this one, or perhaps ACD will want it, too, since it's basically a color variant mixed and matched from existing costumes (and no face mask of course).  I can see valid arguments for several detachments, including ours, so it'll likely come down to the LMOs to decide which detachment to award this costume to.

And of course, someone has to make the costume before it can be submitted and final decisions made.

Our direction is if a face character wears a uniform that is the same or extremely similar to other generic officers, we will structure the CRL on the generic officers.   We will place any details found in an "hero" application for level 2 or 3 so someone can take it to the highest standards possible.

Our first mission is: Can someone do this character?

Our second mission is how to logically group it in the CRLs for reference.

    My unofficial thoughts:
Gentle reminder: we are not the RPF. We have to draw the line somewhere. ALL costumes can really get in the weeds with details. I myself, am also an ANH Vader and there's plenty of beyond level 3 details out there.

Based on non saga precedent, we seem to be moving away from face officers that can be replicated with standard parts. I think Meero's tunic is different because she's the star: the first live action female officer. Everyone else gets stuff off the rack. The uniforms overall seem to be tailored to the folks wearing them.  I don't think those subtle production differences necessitate a new CRL. ANH and anthology tunics have taller collars and longer shirts. Jerjerrod has the only olive double yoke.

We only have a handful of face officers as CRLs, but none of them recently. @buckrogersbarker can speak to those reasons. We don't have a Petigar or Yularen CRL because they can be made from the ISB Non Saga. We don't even have old school ANH Yularen CRL despite him being 50% of the ISB uniforms from ANH. I wanted to do an Andor Yularen, but that's just making a new CRL just for the sake of making a new CRL. It's superfluous.

Zooming out a little bit and looking back, I also think we need to stay away from formalizing colors. Just look at the olive uniform color variations. Cosplaysky's green is its own thing and we still allow that. Sure, it's fun to overanalyze (it's who we are as IOC, and it's part of why we are here), but I think our job is to come with basic standards and not get lost in things like "Supervisor Gordy's tunic is slightly whiter" and put that into a CRL.
