    I've asked a couple of women at a movie premier if they wanted me to take a picture of them with our costumed characters. One of them replied, "No thanks! We're not Trekkies."

    Nice! I haven't used her products but I ordered a belt from her when I was getting my first costume together. While I was waiting my GML (now GCO) gave me an extra one he had as it was the only piece I lacked to start trooping. I notified Tiggie and she gave me a refund with no issue. One of these days I may go ahead and get one and pay the other one forward.

    My advice when ordering from vendors that don't have active run threads (and even then) is to always reach out to them before sending payment. A lot of vendors (by a lot I mean most) provide their items in addition to normal jobs, family commitments, etc. They may be on vacation, waiting on supplies, or just taking a break for a bit. Doesn't hurt to drop them a line to make sure they have some items on hand or are in production and that the vendor is available.

    Black is pretty much black, as long as one isn't, say, more faded than the other. The matching is most important with the olive green uniform.

    Wampa Wear and Cosplay Sky are the two most popular. CS normally has them in stock while WW restocks maybe every couple of months depending on the size you're looking for. WW also has the mandarin collar in the back should you want to go to higher level of accuracy.

    Other vendors who have them are Faraway Creations and Pilot Bay. You can also make yourself If so inclined.

    It can go whichever way is good for organization. I put Anthologies and Prequels together because technically nothing is OT except, well, OT. Other reason was the limited number of officer costumes in the prequels. You can also list by era (exception being Expanded Universe);

    Republic Era and Eve of the Empire (Ep 1-3, The Clone Wars animated series)
    The Rule of the Empire (SW Rebels, R1, Ep 4-6)
    The First Order (Ep. 7-9+)
    Expanded Universe (Novels, games, comics)

    This way keeps it to four sections. Any other anthology movies that come out will fall into the appropriate era (likely The Rule of the Empire).

    I'm a WampaWear guy myself. I would go a size up from what seems to fit you in their sizing chart though.

    Maybe organize them as such;

    Prequels and Anthologies (Ep. 1-3, R1 and upcoming SW stories)
    Original Trilogy (Ep. 4-6)
    Sequel Trilogy(?) (Ep. 7-9?)*
    Animated Shows (TCW, Rebels)
    Expanded Universe (Games, novels, comics, etc.)

    *I know the plan is for only Ep. 7-9, but then again up until about 2013 we weren't ever supposed to get a 7-9 .

    RynoHawk reacted to rdhawk in ID tutorial using McCall's 4745 and CharTozard's Pattern Mods
    Otherwise known as: IC-7255 gets a promotion!

    Now, for the purpose of this tutorial, I'm going to start with going the path of warrant officer, because I get to keep the same boots as my IC and I don't have to worry about a rank badge or the jodhpurs (which I like). There's also a hat pattern I need to print out, but I'll worry about that once I find some legal-sized paper.

    Before it gets asked, no, there won't be daily updates. I will say that I'm wanting to do work on something costume-related every day this year, but I have a project list of 22-ish items (realistically, I can only be working on between four to ten other projects currently), so this will get updated on days I work on this.

    The goal is, of course, to pass CRL, but another secondary goal is also to show folks that it is possible to do an ID for not a whole lot, if you're half-crazy and determined. I say that because the material I'm going to be using is not wool. It is a mid-weight suiting fabric however, and that is what matters for approval. Also, with a 50% coupon from JoAnn's, it was $5/yd, so I have enough for the coat, straight-legged pants, jodhpurs (if/when I get around to those), and a hat, plus mistakes, for very little. I'll add item numbers at the end of this post. But, so far this is everything. The pants for the 4745 say I need a 1' buckle, so I'll find one of those I like, then really begin this insanity.

    Item numbers (all JoAnn's):
    8556714 (black mid-weight suiting material)
    821389 (black lining)
    2614378 (nickel coat hooks & eyes)
    1923077 (sew-on snaps, size 2)
    The buttons are a La Mode style 2044, can't find a product number.

    Everything else should be self-explanatory, fusible interfacing, black thread (I'm going with polyester to avoid shrinkage later), the necessary pattern, and tracing paper for the modifications.

    Let's hope this doesn't go terribly wrong. Or if it does, it's a learning experience.

    I don't think the modesty panel should have to be a spot on match to the rest of the costume as it should be mostly hidden and at most you would see a small slither of it through the collar. It should at least be close to the same color (I wouldn't go out and get a bright red one unless your doing na Isaard ) but shouldn't need to worry about exact shade and whatnot.

    Short answer, yes. Might have been a mistake by the prop department but it made it onscreen, so there we are.

    Long answer;
    If you're talking basic costume approval, the basic costume is the base line officer and you can wear any of the approved rank bars for line officers. You can take it to level 2 if you meet the other requirements. If you wish to go for level 3 and want to do a ROTJ style, then you have to use the rank as shown onscreen (as well as appropriate combo of belt boxes and code cylinders). Gloves are optional for all levels but ROTJ used slightly longer gloves. So if you want to go level 3 with an ESB style rank bar but only have ROTJ style gloves (and have appropriate belt boxes and code cylinder combination), then leave the glovers off and submit as an ESB line officer.

    Just one of my (way too many) hobbies. I built it a couple of years ago. I went a little overboard lighting it, but still one of my favorite builds.

    Goo Gone may work on it. Might want to test it on an inconspicuous place on your tunic to make sure it doesn't discolor. It worked getting off adhesive that was stuck to my garrison racing shirt.

    You can also look at some of the build threads here for staff officers as well as the Executor and Imperator threads for Level 2 and 3 staff officer builds respectively.
