Alay reacted to Detaleader in Imperial Enlisted Flightsuit (Non-Saga)
    G'day folks!

I'm not really sure how this flew under the radar, but the Enlisted did in fact make a comeback on Andor! A few of them are present on Aldhani.

I took the liberty to create an imgur album to back up the things I say here with reference: https://imgur.com/a/meq9guX

    - The Enlisted crew carry the same headset as Kimzi/Aldhani troopers in uniform. This appears to be a Racal Aviation headset with some additional greeblies on. I've ordered one for myself to check out if this can be achieved accurately.

    - Wrist Length black leather gloves are seen on some Enlisted Crew. These seem to be the same Dent gloves seen throughout the Andor Series.

    - Not all Enlisted on the show carry a compad. This may mean that the compad could be moved to the optional section? Interestingly, the Compad is optional on the Non-Saga Crewman, but not the current draft for the enlisted.

    - The Rogue One Version has Chevron shaped mandarin closures on wrist and on the neck. The Andor version has squared off closures.

    - The Compad on both R1 and Andor matches the Imperial Ground Crew in shape, rather than the TIE Compad. You can see this in the R1 visual guide image posted on the first page as well.
    - The Andor Compad has a different color configuration than the Compads seen in Rogue One

    - Andor Belt boxes are slightly smaller. According to @fb501 on the Spec Ops forums, the Belt Boxes measure 67mm tall, 45mm wide and 25mm deep for Andor. This has also been raised on this thread:

The Andor belt boxes are not silver, but rather a dark gunmetal color and feature a pill shaped notch in the top:

Additionally, something I'd like to bring up, which I partially also have on the Non-Saga Crewman thread:
    - The draft mentions a 1 inch piece of webbing sewn to the top end of the Code Cylinder sleeves. I could see a seam there, but no webbing.
    - The Thread Color of the suit seems darker than the rest of the suit. I'm not sure if it is a dark gray or a black thread. This may be worth discussing.
    - The suit has those large flaps on the shoulder that curve down under the armpit. I think similar to the Non-Saga Crew, this may be an addition worth having
    - I'm not sure if adding padding in the shoulders is the right move. Like described on the non-saga thread, the TIE suits look very poofy. The same can't really be said for the Enlisted. It may be worth discussing if it should be removed.
    - The current description of the hat mentions  "Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable." I think it's not really applicable in any scenario and this line could probably be deleted.
    - Other non-saga CRLs mention Cavalry Twill as hat option. This might be an addition worth having?

With the discrepancies between R1 and the Andor Version, I'm not sure if it could be worth making two versions of this costume within a single CRL.

I intend to tackle this costume some time after Celebration is done, as I would only need a new flight suit really.  I'll grab new belt boxes, gloves and headset from my Aldhani build.

cc, since you started this such a long time ago, hope you don't mind!  @buckrogersbarker

1" aluminum stock, 1/8" thickness is what I use for all of mine.  You can buy push buttons from Newark or Mouser (EAO 01-901 series) or other electronic vendors.  I sell buttons directly too PM me if you want a few.

Cut off the tabs on the inserts, then epoxy putty them on, or add E6000 or 5 minute epoxy.  Polish the metal beforehand with high grit sandpaper or a Dremel.

I use a chop saw / miter saw to cut my bars, but a band saw works too.

that is not an ANH Staff costume.  ANH Staff has the collar close on the side and the princess seams in the back do not come from the arms.

That is a security services officer uniform.  https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Temp-Imperial-Staff-Officer_(Non_Saga)

It should work for them, but do take care checking what they get.  What is advertised and what they actually get can be two separate things.

I hate to commit thread necromancy here but do we have any photos of the back of this one since it looks like that display case was open all the way around? I ask because I'm making one for a client, and we're trying to document whether or not it has the second seam in the back of the sleeve like the "standard" officer. Screen caps from Ep 3 seem to indicate not, the written CRL doesn't specify, and this build (used as the CRL photo) does have them.

    Thanks!

I noticed in our CRLs for Non-Saga we're using sizing that is too large.

I did some image sleuthing to compare the Rogue One style boxes against these, using photoshop to count pixels and get an approximation.

Using this image, and the two officer boxes shown

The belt leather has a known width of 2 inches.

That measurement gives us a pixel count of 53px.
Dividing that number by 2, we get a ratio of 26.5px/in.

Going against this wider part of the box from this angle, we get a size of 70px.  When applied to the ratio of 26.5, we get an approximate height of 2.64"

Repeating the process on the other officer for the width

    Belt height: 44px (22.25px/in)
    Box width: 40px

    Approximately 1.8" in Width

To prove out that these are bigger, I repeated the same process against some Rogue One boxes:

    Belt: 29px
    Ratio: 14.5px/in
    Box Height: 39px
    Box Width: 27px

    Box Inches: Approx 2.7" x 1.86"

    Belt: 23px
    11.5px/in
    Box Height: 35px
    Width: 24px

    Box In Inches:  Apprx 3.04" x 2.08"

    One more screen cap

    Same process gives me
    Belt: 46px
    23px/in

    Box Height: 67px

    Box Height in Inches: ~2.91"

This is consistent with the current CRL of 2"x3" for non-saga in Rogue One and Solo.

Ergo, the Andor boxes are approximately 75-85% of the size

Additionally an image on the SpecOps forum shows a pill box detail on the Aldhanni trooper versions made of resin: https://forum.specops501st.com/topic/8719-imperial-army-trooper-andor-crl-discussion/?do=findComment&comment=106817

"The cut corner" mentioned in the CRL is likely due to the metal bending angles when they casted them in resin for the "stunt" versions.  This wording should likely be on both.

    I propose this new wording:

    Belt boxes (Andor style)
Dimensions are approximately 1.75 inches (44.5 mm) wide, 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) tall and 1 inch (25.4 mm) thick. Two boxes to be worn vertically, one each on either side of the belt buckle.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Belt boxes are made of metal or cast resin.  If resin, they should be painted a gunmetal gray color. Corners have a “stepped 90-degree cutout” in the shape of a square on all four corners of the face of the box. Boxes should have a pill shaped detail in the top and bottom.

Some images based off the measurements I calculated above:  https://imgur.com/a/u0RSdBI

Hey Shay!  By Grey Uniform, do you mean the Olive Drab Line Officer style that can appear grey under certain lighting (as seen throughout Empire Strikes Back, for example?), or do you mean more like the Imperial Army Officer style?

I don't recall if I've seen any actual *patterns* per se, but it's a VERY simple holster.  You shouldn't have a hard time eyeballing it, perhaps do a mock up with some craft foam first.  I think Darman's Props (Etsy) is a good source if you decide to buy one.  Mine came from Darth Solar Leatherworks (Facebook... and Tim is semi local (San Diego)), but not sure if he's still making them or not.

Here's mine, if it helps, before, and after I modified the straps which were far too long (common issue with purchased holsters, but easy to fix... the holster should snug up flush with the belt):

And here are some reference images I've collected over time:

Hey all, this is an info dump thread of sorts for helping out a new recruit.  Most of the info here was provided by Cala, I'm just preserving it here for others!

    Fabric Reference Picture:

    Fabric is a white cotton.

    Neck Badge:

Badge made from Acrylic above.  Black and silver.  These should depend on the size of your neck.  These here are about 3cm in width, attached to a 5cm collar with velcro

Example of a level 1 code cylinder:

A level 3 cylinder example (approvability and level 3 up to detachment ultimately)

Rank bar example (Hey! I made this!)

    Buckle and detail example:

Note the center detail is not entirely centered, it's slightly skewed to the top of the buckle!  Leather is about 5cm in width.

    Holster and blaster example pictures

    Gold epaulettes

Between 4.5cm - 5cm.  These should follow the width of the code cylinder pocket.  Length between 11cm and 19+ depends on the size of your shoulders.
The ones pictured above are gold acrylic and velcroed.  (I'm investigating a Shore D urethane metallic version that will flex a little).
