Here again! Joshua "TheRealJosh" Zavala, requesting an advisor in Houston, TX area with help on Imperial Staff Officer. I am looking for help on this costume. Was going to do the new Sith Fleet Tech, but they are so new atm, so I will be starting on that build on a later date once I am more comfortable with the process. Thank you

I'm not in Houston, but I can certainly help out with a Staff Officer!

  2. I have Hessens- I think they run a tiny bit smaller, especially in the toes.  I normally wear a 10 Mens US, and I got that foot size (custom for the calf size, but foot part was standard), and they're a bit snug in the toes.  I would recommend going a size up for that if you have a wide foot.

Hessen boots will go L3- I made L3 with them.  Pretty much all Officer Boots have the same CRL text- they go across many different Officers, that use the riding boots (some use Jack boots).  So yes, Tarkin and Line Officers use the same boots (as do Staff Officers).

  3. I do not recommend WTF for anything.  Two bad experiences (one for myself, one horrendous one working with a friend), and generally not being overly impressed with his stuff I"ve seen from other people and build parties.  I think his TK armor is thin, and it's very small- so if you're not a small or petite person, you'll be shimming to kingdom come.  His TIE Inferno (I dealt specifically with Iden, but safe to assume the same for all since most of the parts are similar if not the same) was a hot mess.

My Shadow Scout is his kit (bought it off another member), and it's fine (came with a different, completed helmet, so no idea on WTF's Scout bucket).

Trey "Bruta1ity" Bolch, Respectfully requesting an advisor in the Charlotte, NC Area, or possibly just online correspondence, for help building an imperial staff officer costume, and help at all will be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance

If nobody local pops up (I'm in CA), then I can help out!  I have a Staff Officer myself.

  6. The only one we've positively identified as being seen (on screen, I'm not sure if there are any comic featuring them) was a woman, therefore, the CRL follows her specific uniform.  While it's entirely possible there were male Transport Security Officers, we have not yet identified them/seen them, and therefore there's no approved male version at this time.

I can't help but laugh a little- as a woman, so many of our costumes are male-dominated/portrayed as male only, so now there's a female-only one (that's not a specific named female character).  The tables have turned!  I admit it's easier to go that way because pants are generally considered unisex (and armor hides everything).  All in fun!

The alternative would be find an Officer you like, as that would pair well nicely for his/her costuming- the pairing would make sense.  Maybe that guy in the recruitment center.  Or, just make your own version, unofficially.

Hmm, would it be cheaper to buy accurate code cylinders instead of having to buy all the supplies to modify the chalk holders?

Upon quick glance, I'd say if you planned to make multiple chalk-holder cylinders, then you might do better to do them yourself.  But for one or two?  I"d say it might just be worth it to buy one.  There's a whole lot of effort and steps to it, not just the money, and time is money.  Plus, if you buy a replica one, you can get to L2/L3, should you so desire, which you cannot with a chalk holder version.

  8. Someone on the Imperial Officer Cosplay group on Facebook caught this one- Magnoli's Falcon boots that are factory seconds are currently half off!  Great deal if anyone is in need of boots- they do good quality boots, so I'd guess their seconds aren't too bad (kind of like TK Boots used to be)!  (I can't comment for certain, as I've never seen their regular or seconds in person).  Limited sizes available.

No idea how long it will last, just passing the word on.

  9. I had casually known or heard about the 501st before, probably in passing or something, but I was at a local con and wandering around- I looked down the aisle and saw a TIE Pilot and a Mando (at the time I was trying to figure out if he was a variant Boba, because I didn't know the Mandos exited, and his was very similar in Boba colors) talking to Batman.  I thought, "This is why I love cons."

I also happened to be standing in front of the 501st booth when I saw that.  I chatted with the guy at the table, got a brochure, and thought- I could do this.  I loved the message, the charity aspect, also I loved Star Wars and Stormtroopers are the quintessential bad guys for me.  Nameless, faceless cannon fodder for the Empire and that's how it should be.  I decided I should do it before I turned 40 (I was 29 at the time).  Then about a month later I decided I didn't want to wait that long, I wanted to do it before I turned 30.  I got in touch with my local Squad, made a bunch of friends, met said TIE and Mando (now fellow Squad members and friends), and have continued to run into Batman at local cons ever now and again, got an ESB TK kit and went to town.  I handled extensively for the five months while I built my kit, and loved every minute of it.  I wanted my first to be my TK, so I purposefully didn't get a soft costume in the meantime to get in, because I wanted my first to be THE one.  That worked for me, but I still tell people they have the option of going soft costume while building the armor if they want.  I was approved in February 2016, and turned 30 on June 1st of that year- I made my goal!

I did IOC originally because my second favorite costume is the ANH TIE Pilot, and the TI Reserve is basically a ROTJ Crewman, and the base for a TIE.  I didn't intend to really use it, because early on I was still not on board with having my face showing.  Having the bucket gave me literal armor between me and social anxiety and general dislike of large crowds.  But then I got into it, did it a few times as fill in, and I had gained so much confidence from trooping with the bucket on, that the hat was enough of a bucket that I could put on a character.  I ended up doing the Gunner because all I needed was the bucket over the jumpsuit and accessories I already had.  (I actually bought the jack boots for my Willrow Hood).

And costuming is an addiction.  I've always been into costumes anyway.  I did a Jawa because I thought a 6' Jawa would be funny, and then Jawas have exploded and we have 22 of them (most of them in the 6' range) now.  Then I got my TI Reserve/Crewman while I waited for my armor (ending up taking ages, but worth it).  @BensID39999 was always bugging me to do an Officer, because we trooped together all the time anyway, it'd be cool to have some IOC troops together.  So I did a Staff Officer, because by then I had the confidence to know I could pull off a face costume and not feel awkward or out of place.  Then later, after finishing the TIE and Shadow Scout (Scout just about fell into my lap, and I love it), I decided I wanted to wear a Grand Moff rank bar, so therefore I needed a Line Officer.  And I have long red hair, so I mean Admiral Daala was a gimme costume, and she's cool (I re-read some the books she's featured in recently).  I threw in a Social and a Warrant because I had an old pair of work pants in straight leg that match the Officer fabric perfectly, so more gimmies.  So that's how I got to 12 approved costumes.  Phasma (TFA) will be lucky #13.  (ESB TK, Jawa, TI Reserve, ROTJ Crewman, Staff Officer, ANH TIE Pilot, Gunner, Shadow Scout, Warrant Officer, Social Officer, Line Officer, and Admiral Daala).  Gotta do my Mando next- get that trifecta of clubs.  Then cool it for a while and see what new stuff we get.

To completely come full circle- I love Weird Al, and when I found out he  used 501st people on stage, I knew that was a life goal.  My dad and I went to a concert years ago, locally, and I thought that part was great- at the time having no idea what the 501st was.  When I joined the Squad I realized I had become friends with everyone I'd see on stage.  He's finally coming back to our territory and I'm going onstage with Weird Al in August!!

  10. I've always had luck with just tossing my CosplaySky uniforms in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry.  The fabric is the same as my work pants and I wash those normally all the time.

There's RIT dye remover, RIT dye remover washer treatment, solvents with 90%+ alcohol content, vinegar and detergent mixes, and I've been able to remove a lot of stuff with hydrogen peroxide.

thanks guys. wampawear is my go to but they dont have the line officer hats and cant seem to find anyone else but i will be checking out who Rebecca recommended

Wampa hats are okay, and approvable, but personally I think you can do better for your money.  They tend to be a bit soft/smushy.

  13. CosplaySky hats and leather anything are terrible and not approvable.  I personally like 20EyesDesign (no disk, but Elvis Trooper will set you up with a great one- they have CosplaySky olive, if you need to match their olive uniform), MazCave/DJsCave and I think DemonDogStudios appears good.  The last two come with the disk.

Got my 4 day pass and never saw any option for the con hotels , but got Castle booked for Con and a few days before to go Galaxies Edge etc

    They kinda hid it: https://www.starwarscelebration.com/About/Travel/

The block opened one hour after tickets did, so no idea if there's any of those currently available, but people will cancel over time as things come up.  The Castle is a good backup in general, as is the Candy Cane.

I think the Castle will be the de facto secondary Legion hotel. I know of at least 15-20 staying there at some point.

Castle and Candy Cane are the big ones for sure- about as close as not the Marriott or Hilton, reasonable prices, and will let you book this far out.  Castle was my backup, but I got the Marriott for all the days I wanted (coming in a day early, leaving the day after).  That hotel block system was wonky as all get out, though. Oof.  I waited in that queue for only five minutes, but it was already bass-ackwards, book for just the con dates, email to be put on a wait list for any additional days... Thankfully I did, but it was odd.  I waited 38 minutes in the ticket queue and just about had a nervous breakdown.

  16. I got my four day ticket!  My first Celebration!  I manged to get the Marriott for my whole trip- we'll be coming in Wednesday afternoon/evening and departing on Monday morning/early afternoon.  (Edit: I had been on the wait list for non-con days at the Marriott, but that came through thankfully!)
