Can you not simply cut off then re-sew the fasteners in a slightly better position?

One that both straightens the collar and makes them less visible? Or is the collar itself too tight to allow this?

That's what I was going to suggest- it would also put them lined up, which would make the collar line up.  So not worth sending it back all the way to China for something that will take five minutes with a seam ripper, a needle and some thread.  You sew them in by hand.  Basic sewing is just a loop method- hold it in place, put threaded needle though the opening and fabric, repeat from underneath, and then keep doing that a few times until secure.  Repeat on other pieces.

I got Wed-Mon at Castle Inn as well, at least as a placeholder.  Nice to hear it's only a ten minute walk... Sounds about the same as where I was for the last Anaheim Celebration.  Helpful for those late night stumbling walks back to the room after the various after hours parties!  (though just taking an elevator upstairs would be better!) :D

I did the same!  Castle is my backup if I don't get into the Marriott/Hilton, Marriott preferred.  Convenience, proximity, ease of changing costumes, taking breaks, stumbling back to the room at 4 am after all the after parties, safety, etc.

The only thing I will say about hotels and LA area- check the map for Walking Distance- not just miles away, because often they might very well be .5 miles away, but can you walk directly or semi-directly is always the question.  (You can from Castle, I checked before I booked), but LA is weird and it might put a freeway you can't cross as  pedestrian or even as a car, so you'll have to take a round about way, adding more time and more mileage.  So just pay attention if you don't plan to do the two main attached hotels.  A normal block isn't the same length as city block which isn't the same as an LA block which isn't anywhere near a Vegas block.

Bookit.com will let you book a few hotels on those dates now, if anyone wants backups or just isn't going for the Marriott/Hilton period.  Good cancellation policy and option to pay at the hotel at the time, not up front.  In quick searches Marriott and Hilton won't even let you look at dates that far out, likely because they will be part of that official block opening Friday.  I would assume after Friday they'd allow it, but maybe not, who knows.  I do know they will only get more expensive the closer it gets, and being where they are, and the star level of them, they won't be cheap period.  (*Crosses fingers and hopes they aren't $900/night*)

I'm hoping to get a room at the Marriot or the Hilton, but they won't take any reservations till August.

They'll likely be part of the official hotel block, which opens one hour after ticket sales open- Friday, June 21st, at 10:00 am PST.

  4. I believe I heard that there's an exception for active-duty military members on the one troop a year to stay active requirement- I don't recall the details, but I do recall hearing that basically if you miss the one troop a year due to being active-duty military, then they can/will override your inactive status.  But if you go off active duty, then I believe it reverts back to once per year as normal.  I'd as your CO, they'd know or know who to contact to find out.

As to joining, I'd say probably join your home Garrison.  If you have your stuff with you, you're generally welcome at other Garrisons' territories.  I like to give them a heads up that you'll be in their territory and would like to join in on one of their troops, as a courtesy.

  5. Pilot Bay does Juno jackets, as does Don't Run With Scissors (both on Facebook).  DRWS is probably booked- she usually is, from what I can tell, though.

In glancing at that one, I see a few potential issues.  The Juno jacket bottom is straight cut- this has a bit of a V to it.  The panels on the front appear to be impressions or stich lines, rather than an actual panel (hard to tell from the photo.  The collar looks a little big/off/soft compared to the CRL photo.  I'd need to see the back to confirm any details on that.

  6. Jeff beat me to it, but ROTJ didn't have Staff Officers, just green Line ones.  Warrant Officers are black, but have a different tunic (just slightly, no code cylinder pockets), one version wears jack boots and straight leg pants, the other two versions wear jodpurs and officer boots.  None have a rank bar, all three have belt boxes (vertical), two wear gauntlet gloves, one wears wrist-length with three lines.

That might not be for a while, the Legion has changed it's rules regarding Merch items like shirts. I think things are on hold until Disney/LFL provides a list of "Approved Vendors" to the Garrison/Detachment Merch Officers.

Apparel and hats are on hold- (so far) the moratorium doesn't affect other types of merch (patches, coins, etc.).  But yes, it screws up potential racing shirts for the foreseeable future.  And then who knows what will happen when they release the list, and what the approved vendors charge or what their business practices are.  (I have a suspicion it will be aNOvos or another Disney-owned company).

  8. If you can get Home Depot/Lowes/etc. to cut the aluminum for you- it is fantastic and the way to go.  If you can't, then you can do it yourself, just be careful.  I use a dremel with a metal cutting wheel.  I have noticed it doesn't work as well with the dremel attachment- I'm thinking it's just not quite the umpf it needs.  Also, the entire rod will get very, very hot- so use a clamp to hold it while cutting, and let it sit for a good 5 - 10 minutes after cutting before trying to touch it.  Wear safety goggles and a face mask for flying metal debris.

I can take photos of my Gunner antenna if you need further reference.

  9. Post photos of your modded patterns and fabrics once you have them- that will greatly assist anyone with knowledge to give you specifics and help.  So much of sewing is visual, so it's hard to just talk about it sometimes.  I'm pretty good with patterns, I can do a lot with them, and I can lightly mod them, but mainly lengthen/shorten/widen/tighten, so I'll offer what help I can!

Yeah, I think I’ll just bite the bullet and get hessian custom boots, probably my best bet.

In my opinion, you shouldn't be able to go wrong with Hessans.  I think they're a quality product and provided you measure right (measure twice just in case!), then you should be great.  I'm very happy with my customs.

I don't know that I'd trust an eBay store that uses some anime foot fetish image to explain measurements....

Same, that was a bit of a red flag for me, too.

I also agree they appear to be tall Jack boots, not riding boots.  Different style, different height, different... everything, really.  And no one does custom for $60.  Even basic boots at $60 is a cheap boot.

  13. To me PU Leather is a red flag- it's a cheap fake leather product, and I've never seen it hold up well.  Boots are tough when you have fit issues, I feel you there.

I couldn't quite figure out your GML,  but your Squad Leader is Jacob Bennett - tk11989@yahoo.com, he'll know who you should talk to/who's your GML.

Edit: I also asked a friend in Texas/Star Garrison (she's in Houston) if she knew  who your GML would be, I'll let you know what I hear.

  14. Stormtrooper boots?  Really, seller, really?

They look kinda short- maybe it's just the image, though.  They look like a hybrid of Jack boots and riding boots.  If they're Funtasma I saw don't bother- they look cheap and are made cheaply and with cheap materials.

  15. IGC would be the best bet, but in looking at my Gunner helmet, the antenna wire is just... wire that's been shaped into an antenna shape.  I would recommend a straight piece that you add the bottom curve for attachment (inside the box) rather than a coil that you try and straighten- I could just see that being a challenge to get truly straight.

  16. That's... a really good question.  I admit I don't actually know the answer, I'll have to look into it.

In looking at photos, you generally don't see the inner lining of their uniforms, which to me means that you can't outright say what color they were.  I also don't know why there was a split of the CRLs (I'm sure there was a reason discussed ad nauseum as it is when any CRL change happens, but I just don't know what that discussion was).

And now my memory will completely fail and I assume we saw black Staff officers in ESB and ROTJ, but can I think of a single one?  Funny how you can see a movie a million times and still not be able to recall details...

I wouldn't recommend it.  Lots of companies have stolen CosplaySky's photos over the years.  Not necessarily the same company, and not necessarily made to the same spec.  I would ONLY buy directly from CosplaySky.

I agree.  I'm going to edit that post because my wording was confusing- I was actually trying to say (or imply) what you said.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Has anyone tried a company called Coshd? It looks a lot like CosplaySky and they say the meet 501st requirements.

I just looked it up, and the first photo I see is exact same uniform picture from CosplaySky.  I'm thinking they're just another name or shell company for the same manufacturer as CPS.  So, same guidelines as with CPS- light mods, the only lower-end cost option we have currently- but still stick with the direct.

Edit for clarity: I'd recommend buying only directly from CosplaySky should you go that route- it's safer.  Though I do believe it's probably connected or using the same manufacturer (let's face it, 90% of everything comes from the same manufacturers in China these days), it's still best to go to the known source, just in case.
