  1. Welcome!

    To answer your questions:

    1) I'm assuming you're talking about an Officer, since Crewman are flight suits and not trousers.  Yes, they have generally have a zipper/fly.  It's concealed by the tunic.

    2) Might be your material- what are you using?  Could also be your thread (I use just the everyday stuff form Coats and Clark in the corresponding color).  Also check the machine tension, if it's off it can make the thread/stitches pull wrong and thus pucker fabric.  Any reference photos?  Might help me a bit on that one.  Others please chime in.  I sew, but I didn't sew my Officers (just mods).

  2. I've heard both dry clean only and go ahead and throw it in the washing machine.  A friend of mine dry cleans his.  I wasn't going to, because I have a pair of work pants made of the same material (which ending up doubling as straight-leg pants for some additional officer costumes), and I throw them in the regular wash- I've had them for some time now and have seen no ill effects from said washing process.  But I will say I haven't washed my officer (CosplaySky) yet, so I have no personal experience with the actual tunic and pants.  (It hasn't been worn a ton yet, and not yet in summer when it will really need a wash).

I would recommend a more gentle/cooler (not super hot) wash and not nuking the hell out of it in the dryer if you do it yourself, maybe even damp dry and air dry the rest.  If you added interfacing on the punch outs on the pants, it will be toast after a dry cleaning and need to be replaced.  Depending on how heavy it is, it might last a home machine was or two.  (Luckily that stuff is cheap, so it's not a huge deal to re-do it).

  3. Depending on your maker, here's a rough listing of need-to-know measurements for custom orders:

    Height

    Weight

    Shoulder to floor

    Shoulder width

    Shoulder to waist (front)

    Shoulder to waist (back)

    Arm length

    Chest/bust (at widest part)

    Waist to floor

    Waist

    Hips

    Thigh circumference

    Knee circumference

    Calf circumference

    Bicep circumference

    Cuff circumference

    Neck

    Inseam

Some vendors will have an accompanying diagram detailing what they're talking about for each measurement (helpful for the non-obvious ones like "hips").  As said above, the more measurements the better for a truly custom fit.  Knowing your height/weight/chest or bust/waist/hips and inseam are super helpful in general for sizing when looking at basic size charts for off-the-shelf items.

  4. If you're "standard" or "normal" sized (ie, not extremely tall, short, etc.), then Wampa Wear is a good choice.  I have a custom suit for my Crewman/TI-Reserve/TIE Pilot from Claudio (on here), because I'm 5'11'' and a woman, and not a size 0- I'm just hard to fit.  I have an orange one for Willow/eventual X-Wing Pilot from Wampa, and while it fits, it's just not as clean looking.  So it's really what you're after, and what will fit you best.  I wanted a tailored look for my IOC stuff, because I prefer that look, but the X-Wing and Willrow?  Didn't matter to me. (Quite honestly the X-Wing pilots are baggier and not quite as fitted looking anyway, so it's a bit more accurate anyway).

I'm not a fan of CosplaySky for jumpsuits- they're ok, but for the money, I'd go somewhere else.  Their officers, always do custom- so worth it, are good, however.  I have a Staff/Warrant currently and a Line on order.

I've never seen one of her hats, nor was I aware that she makes them.

Her delivery times of late have been extremely slow, due to some personal issues she's been dealing with.  I might consider other options first unless you're very patient.

I'm going to be sending her my extra Olive material (once it gets here) for a hat, this is good to know.  But I know never to be in a hurry with 501st stuff (it can smell it, like fear, and then you're toast).  I've seen photos of her hats and they look good, disc has the notch, but I've never seen one in person.  I went with her because I'm also getting some additional rank bars, so I just did everything in one go.

I'll make myself a note to come back and post photos once I get it.  I can vouch for her rank bars (plexi, so far, but have a push button on order).

  6. I don't particularly recommend the Soviet style unless you're hard to fit (they can be easier on larger calves, I've heard), because they're usually about the same cost as German Jack boots, and they're usually not the quality or look as good.  They tend to be "soft" and more slouchy, while German Jack boots are very stiff.  I got mine off eBay- replicas for about $120 ish.

As mentioned above, Jack boots for Crewman, etc., not Officers.  So the above is assuming you're doing a Crewman (possibly a few others, I forget specifically).  If you're doing an officer you want riding boots (English, etc.).
