Their listed price is £300.00, which equates to $391.

Strange, the appear to have dropped the middle option from their website.  It used to be there.

Still available in the eBay store, per Jason's link, fortunately.  Thanks for the link, Jason!

  2. @SNK:  The CRL Team is reviewing this proposal again. There's a good chance many of the proposals can be implemented, but we will confirm later.

Meanwhile, because Legion databases are still locked, post-election, and the new LMO teams can't even START working on the backlog until March 1 when the transition switch is flipped, it is likely to be at LEAST March 10 before anything can actually start moving on this, even if everyone here was in complete agreement. The Detachment staff does not currently have the power to make ANY changes, nor can the Legion staff review any of our proposals until they're back up and running.  So please be patient while the Legion-level people get their bearings.

Once the wheels are moving again, things can start happening.

I have to ask. Are the IOC also going away from plexiglass ranks to pushbutton only?

As much as I would wish that were so, no.  There are no plans to remove the plexi option at the basic level.

Pushbutton rank bars are required at L3 for all appropriate characters (meaning movie characters, as opposed to Rebels characters, and the like, where it doesn't matter)

We have not yet tightened the requirements at L2 to require pushbuttons.  But personally, I hope we do.  (again, only referring to applicable costumes)

They make all boots to measure. My director at NYRF has several pairs of their period boots and the quality is excellent.  This is what I was looking at...

    https://www.caboots.com/cart/product/han_solo_boots/

The black ones pictured, the leather looks a bit softer than we'd ideally like.  The brown ones look very good, however, and I assume they can be done in black as well.  You can do better than $400, certainly, but if these are what you have your heart set on, I won't try to talk you out of them.

I would be careful about their other "Star Wars" boots, however, as the accuracy of their designs is ... well, not.  But those Solo boots should be fine.

  5. Things moved around during shoots on a busy set, as the actors move around, and stuff happens.  (especially outdoors)  But the overall look was definitely intended to be flush.  Since your approval photos are intended to show your costume in the best possible light, the thinking is, if you can't get it just right there, it must not be constructed in a way that it's possible to get it just right... and therefor, it's not quite right.

During a troop, it's definitely not mandated that you keep it 100% perfect the entire time else go hide in shame.  But it's important to have a reference starting point.

  6. The Mux boots pictured have a tad bit too shiny a finish, to my eye.  Officers did not have patent leather-level shine on their boots.

The Hessen boot appearance is pretty much perfect.

I can't do anything about the OP's unrealistic expectations, comparing his Hessen boots to $1200 boots.  But there is NOTHING wrong with the Hessen boots, for purposes of trooping in the 501st as an officer.

I will try and upload some pics once at computer. My issue is the price for what you get. I had bought my Dehners for $250. Considering everything used on screen was military surplus this doesn't come close to that quality.

I had bought a pair of custom German officer boots for $175 with better leather back in 2008.

Again, you're comparing $1200 boots (even though you got them used) to $250 boots (which would certainly be less if you could find them used in your size).  First off, I'll bet you $20 that those $1200 boots aren't the right style for an Officer boot.  It's not a common style anymore.

If you can still get those custom Officer boots (with better leather than Hessen) for $175, 11 years later, believe me we all would love to know your source so we can all save money!

  8. I have no idea how someone can look at a pair of Hessen boots and come to that conclusion.  The leather on the shaft is very sturdy, the soles are well-constructed... there are literally hundreds of happy Hessen boot wearers in the IOC, all of whom rave about their boots.  Myself included.

I'm not familiar with Dehner riding boots.  Perhaps they are stupendously high end boots (with a correspondingly high price tag)?  Do you have photos you can show us, to compare?

In the end, you do have to realize we're talking about $230 boots... which for many, is extremely high, but it's certainly nothing compared to $800+ you can pay for quality equestrian boots.  That's not going to be a fair comparison... but it's also not fair to call them junk, because they're not.

I didn't realize using the nerf gun would be approvable, opening up an Ebay tab real quick here..

It's amazingly accurate.  A tad smaller (about 8%), but sot so much that it's noticable unless you put it side by side with a full scale version.

You can follow these instructions for how to modify it: http://www.tk560.com/DH17mod/DH17mod.html

    Here's mine, pre-weathering:

Removing the clear cover is tricky (and don't glue it back with superglue or it will cloud up!) but if you get it done, you can use a WD40 straw to convincingly recreate the light tube from the original single point scopes they used.

  10. Praetorian IS fantastic.  They're only making limited quantities, at the moment, unfortunately.  And only carry a few models.  Mostly E11s, from your list.  They haven't done DH17 or DL44 yet.

Hyperfirm is indeed completely shut down, and unlikely to come back, at least not for 10-20 years.

"Hyperfirm of the UK" is probably Shear Tech.  They do make very nice rubber E11s, although not as nice as Praetorian's.  Very active and good communications, however, by all reports.  Super popular in the UK.

For a DH17, just get the Nerf dart gun.  You can still snag them on eBay for a LOT less than you're going to pay for a new rubber moulded version.  It's really just 3 minutes (if that) with a hack saw, and a couple coats of spray paint.  VERY easy.

Tai Kai makes great rubber trooping DL44s.  (MSP5s, also)  They're not cheap, though.  You can find him on Facebook.

  11. Yes, Krennic's boots have an adjustment strap, somewhat similar (if smaller) than the one on Level 3 crew jack boots, but on a tall boot.

I think I even have some photos that I found online somewhere, that I can share.  I'll see if I can dig them up when I get home, if I can remember.

Mux Leather makes custom boots for a really surprisingly reasonable price.  I doubt there are any IOC boots they can't make.  I don't own any personally, but I've seen many, and the quality seems to be consistently good.  (And being custom made, their flexibility in sizing is unparalleled!)  I know they're first on my list for my next Officer costume, where I'll need some new boots...

MazCave holster isn't belt complete... For communicator you can ask to MakerLabStore On Etsy. He has a kit

https://www.etsy.com/it/listing/597865770/star-wars-bundle-se-44c-communicator?ref=hp_rv but if you ask a custom order I think there is no problem for him

Just for the record: That communicator isn't 100% accurate, but it's not half bad, and properly finished, I don't see why it shouldn't be approved.

I find this officer very intriguing.

As I cannot locate a CRL for this costume I shall ask what I believe to be the appropriate questions.

Where will I find the following items.

    1. The uniform. Is it a specific design for this character or does it copy an existing costume?

    2. Where can I find the blaster, shoulder holster and holster rig?

    3. I'm sure I know this answer but I will ask to assist anyone that is new to this hobby.

Where will we find the belt and buckle?

    4. The boots do not need questioning.

I edited my post stating I had finally found the CRL. Not sure why it didn't post.

So that takes me to questions 2, 3 and 4.

Where are the best places/stores/ on line sellers to find those items?

I have seen the holster on etsy but the blaster and shoulder holster rig is escaping me.

I'm not aware of any company that specifically makes this holster rig.  There are many who could custom make it for you, however.  You're in Florida, so I'd reach out to Bobby (Darman's Props on Etsy) and see if he'll do one for you.  He's one of the Legion's main go-tos for holsters and belts.

Bobby can also probably make the belt and buckle for you, but PhiloProps on Etsy (Philo, aka ID6187 here on IOC forums) sells those First Order belt and buckles.

Evan "EvoDoesGood" Creamer requesting someone in the Valdosta, Georgia (USA) area for help with a standard Imperial Officer costume (ambitious, I know).

Just need someone to show me the ropes.

    Looking forward to joining!

I'm not sure if we have advisors from that specific area, but I'm happy to assist if someone from California will suffice. :)

  15. CosplaySky's website redirected to the Cossky.com website a couple days ago, and now it's redirecting to the NewCossky.com website.  It's all the same company, just rebranded (lots of old watermarks with the old company name everywhere, still!).  Seems they can't quite make up their mind what they want the new name to be, LOL!

One change is they've moved the custom sizing option to an add-on (which they oddly list under Services and refer to as "Change the color/Fabric"): https://newcossky.com/products/color-fabric-change-service-for-costume-orders

The Black Staff Officer uniform someone might want is now here:

    https://newcossky.com/products/star-wars-imperial-officer-uniform-costume-deluxe-version-new

And the Olive Line Officer uniform is here:

    https://newcossky.com/products/star-wars-imperial-officer-olive-green-costume-uniform

The hats and belts they sell are garbage, and not approvable.  Don't waste any money on it.  If you plan to go with the Olive officer, you'll want to contact them about adding extra fabric to your order, so you can have a matching hat commissioned.

  16. I think I mentioned this on the Facebook group as well, assuming the same person:

But what we have here is a medical condition, due to the fact that the piercings cannot (at this time) be removed for any substantial time period.  As such, the Legion has to accommodate it.  As long as reasonable steps are taken (insert clear / flesh-colored plugs instead of shiny metal, etc.), I see no reason why a reasonable accommodation can't be made for this.

  17. Score and Snap is the traditional way Stormtrooper armor is removed from vacuformed shells.  Very simple technique.  You generally don't go through more than one or two (max) blades on an entire suit of armor, so definitely not for a mere helmet.

I actually did a video a while back, at an armor party, showing the technique:

After the score and snap is done, of course, finish up the edges with simple sandpaper.  (glue it onto a sanding block or dowel for best results, assuming your don't have a bench sander)

Lexan scissors work, but slower and require far more cleanup.  They're a good option for people who are unwilling to try working with a utility knife.
