sorry Kalani been busy putting my uniform together forgot to replie to your answer but its the two rectangular greeblies on the side

I'd take a look at Gucabe's models on Shapeways.  I think I used his, for those greeblies, on mine.  His models are downloadable as long as you're logged in.  (If you're not logged in, the download option doesn't appear)  That's if you want to print your own.  Else you can buy the parts from Shapeways, of course.

Kman, “But I tend to agree, probably worth it, if they actually nail the measurements, for a change.”

You’re filling me with confidence LOL.

Well, I am patiently awaiting the uniform with no belt or hat ordered along with it (thank you all again for making me aware that they’re not approved. Gave them all my measurements including neck and out seam. Those were the only two that they didn’t have. I am hoping that the material they use is a standard, easy to find Gaberdine since I need to get the cap elsewhere. Sewing is quickly moving up on my list of things to learn.

LOL Sorry about the scare, but it's true, unfortunately.  It should take you about 15 seconds of searching this forum to turn up a number of examples of CS outfits that were custom sized yet badly messed up... AND a number of them where they nailed it.  It's a roll of the dice.  The difference is they won't help you with sizing issues if you have a problem with the stock sizes... so that little bit of extra money buys you some customer service IF they screw it up.  And if they don't, boom, all good.

Personally, I'd count on needing SOME local tailoring regardless.  Still, even with the "custom size" extra money, the cost of these really is so stupendously cheap for what you get, I think it's worth it.

You DO get what you pay for.  If you want to pay double to quadruple the price, you can expect a MUCH more perfect out of the box experience.  But if the dice fall your way, you get a very nice outfit for just... stupid cheap.  (If not, you have some delays... again, sometimes, you get what you pay for.  And the high end options are WAY slower than CosplaySky!)

Black gaberdine is not difficult to match in the slightest.  Pretty much any black hat from another vendor will work just fine.  It's the Olive/FeldGrau Line Officers who have a heck of a time getting matching hats.  The Staff officer hats... don't give it a second thought.

I look forward to seeing how things turn out for you!  Post some pics with your new uniform comes in. :)

If you have to jump through these hoops and deal with those hurdles for something as simple as adding one frigging sentence "Rank may be worn either Red or Blue row up"; then that tells me the "system" has major flaws in it. I can understand going through them if the CRL is new, or getting a major revamp. But for adding one sentence to fix an issue that has been known for years? Common sense should tell you that a detachment CRL person and DCO should be able to fix minor things like this on the fly; without having to take a vote, jump through hoops, deal with hurdles, etc.

This should have taken a grand total of ten minutes to deal with.

The actual changes don't take that long.  The debate over the correct course of action is what takes time.  These decisions affect people, especially if there is contention over what that correct course of action is.  Setting a precedent can have a ripple effect, so careful consideration and discussion is warranted.

I am currently checking out CosplaySky for the ANH Imperial Officer kit that comes with pants, tunic, hat and belt. There is an option for an additional $50 for 501st customization along with custom measurements. Very worth it in my opinion. My question is...has anyone had experience with their “501st customization”? Do I need to include all the approval requirements in the comment box? Or, do they make it to 1st tier specs ? 2nd tier? Or  Centurion?

Do you have a link?  That particular option sounds new.  Their regular custom sizing upcharge has been more like $30, last I checked (not long ago).

But I tend to agree, probably worth it, if they actually nail the measurements, for a change.

Properly fit, and obviously with appropriate accessories, you'd probably only need very minor modifications (mostly to the shape of the jodhpur flaps, and perhaps the neck closure/modesty panel, either of which can be done with very rudimentary sewing skills, or not very much money at a local tailor), there's no reason why you couldn't take a CPS costume to Executor or Imperator (Level 2 and 3, in IOC, comparable to EIB and Centurion at FISD).

Note: AVOID THE HAT AND BELT.  Both are garbage, and not approvable at all.

Regarding cosplayskys imperial officers hat, has anybody attempted to disassemble one from them and reassemble it.  It looks as though the angles of the individual panels are off and it is not tapered.  Has anybody seen one in person themselves ? I am thinking it would be easier to put together a correct hat using the panels from cosplayskys hat instead of starting from scratch ?

    opinions ?

I've sewn an Officer's hat before (using the CyberSeams pattern... it's linked here somewhere, but also super easy to just Google), and I've seen the CosplaySky hats.  You have to disassemble the CS hat so far that you really hardly save anything over just making it from scratch yourself, using that pattern.  And that's ssuming you're able to disassemble it without damage.

I would seriously look elsewhere, or just make one yourself.  The CyberSeams pattern isn't all that tough to make.  There are only two tricky parts, and as long as you take your time (and sometimes re-do a bit a couple of time before you get it just so), you can make your own for maybe $10 in fabric (less on sale), plus now you have the skills to make all the hats you want!

Should be good for all levels - Anavos got their example right from the LucasFilm vaults.

I’m not an approver though - so may want to wait for a more authoritative answer.

That was my thought as well, frankly.

MOST officers had no extra holes on their belts.  That should be emulated where possible, frankly.  And perhaps for a L3 officer, it must be.  But at least L2, I can't imagine there would be an issue with extra holes.  (although, again, unless your specific onscreen officer had extra holes, I'd recommend against it)

I have several belts, though, depending on configuration.  Not everyone has that luxury... but again, for L3, it might matter.

I thought I kept mine simple, but Kalani's got me beat.

    LOL!

To be fair, I'm probably going to add a band of squad patches along the bottom in back. ;)  And I do wear my name badge in about the same place you have yours. (I should take a pic with that at some point)

I have my 4 Garrison Vader patch on my jacket.

  8. When my custom order was a bit off, they offered to give me a partial refund to have a local tailor fix it. And they did.

Obviously I wish they had nailed it on the first try, but I went into it doubting they would, so it wasn't much of a surprise.  And frankly, given my body type it was unlikely to be perfect out of the gate, even with truly expert tailors on the other end.  It's just hard to make fine tailored garments based on a customer taking their own measurements.  (although clearly there are often other issues at play, when they screw up stock sizing, even)

I just emailed the regular info address... I don't know that there are any specific contacts you could look for (let alone contact directly).

Their listed price is £300.00, which equates to $391.

Strange, the appear to have dropped the middle option from their website.  It used to be there.

Still available in the eBay store, per Jason's link, fortunately.  Thanks for the link, Jason!

  10. @SNK:  The CRL Team is reviewing this proposal again. There's a good chance many of the proposals can be implemented, but we will confirm later.

Meanwhile, because Legion databases are still locked, post-election, and the new LMO teams can't even START working on the backlog until March 1 when the transition switch is flipped, it is likely to be at LEAST March 10 before anything can actually start moving on this, even if everyone here was in complete agreement. The Detachment staff does not currently have the power to make ANY changes, nor can the Legion staff review any of our proposals until they're back up and running.  So please be patient while the Legion-level people get their bearings.

Once the wheels are moving again, things can start happening.

I have to ask. Are the IOC also going away from plexiglass ranks to pushbutton only?

As much as I would wish that were so, no.  There are no plans to remove the plexi option at the basic level.

Pushbutton rank bars are required at L3 for all appropriate characters (meaning movie characters, as opposed to Rebels characters, and the like, where it doesn't matter)

We have not yet tightened the requirements at L2 to require pushbuttons.  But personally, I hope we do.  (again, only referring to applicable costumes)

They make all boots to measure. My director at NYRF has several pairs of their period boots and the quality is excellent.  This is what I was looking at...

    https://www.caboots.com/cart/product/han_solo_boots/

The black ones pictured, the leather looks a bit softer than we'd ideally like.  The brown ones look very good, however, and I assume they can be done in black as well.  You can do better than $400, certainly, but if these are what you have your heart set on, I won't try to talk you out of them.

I would be careful about their other "Star Wars" boots, however, as the accuracy of their designs is ... well, not.  But those Solo boots should be fine.

  13. Things moved around during shoots on a busy set, as the actors move around, and stuff happens.  (especially outdoors)  But the overall look was definitely intended to be flush.  Since your approval photos are intended to show your costume in the best possible light, the thinking is, if you can't get it just right there, it must not be constructed in a way that it's possible to get it just right... and therefor, it's not quite right.

During a troop, it's definitely not mandated that you keep it 100% perfect the entire time else go hide in shame.  But it's important to have a reference starting point.

  14. The Mux boots pictured have a tad bit too shiny a finish, to my eye.  Officers did not have patent leather-level shine on their boots.

The Hessen boot appearance is pretty much perfect.

I can't do anything about the OP's unrealistic expectations, comparing his Hessen boots to $1200 boots.  But there is NOTHING wrong with the Hessen boots, for purposes of trooping in the 501st as an officer.
