I can't swear I'm right, but I think 3D prints are usually fine as long as they're accurate enough, and look good in your photos.  (FWIW, I have some 3D parts on my MSP5, although the base is not printed, and I get a LOT of compliments on it when I bother to wear it, LOL)

Are those files you can share, by chance?  I really wanted to do a Nerf conversion, but the supply has dried up without having to pay insane prices for what was a $20 toy. (unless I get really lucky)

I freely admit to frustration when they were denied.  But, perseverance is one of my strong suits (or disadvantages in circumstances where I am wrong and just can't see it). The good thing about all this is that the costume got approved.  After looking at the CRLs a bit more closely regarding black flight suit based costumes is that the tread is approval for gunner but not for IC or TI.

The icing is that they are more comfortable to walk in now that the tread is gone.

WampaWear is excellent quality.  As long as you get one that fits you (double-check those sizing charts!) they should do well.  The fabric is very sturdy... which leads the one problem: For those in hot climates, these coveralls are HOT.  For those in colder climates, that's probably a bonus.  But temperature issues aside, very few have any complaints about WW.  Good stuff.

CosplaySky is always a hit and miss vendor.  They CAN produce a quality pair of coveralls, that are good to level 2.  (no pointed collar in back)  The fabric is thinner, which naturally means not quite as sturdy (probably not as good a choice as WW for ACTUAL heavy labor, LOL!), but it's still decent fabric... and MUCH cooler, for hotter climates.  The main gotcha with CosplaySky is their seemingly random ability to make things to the correct size.  They even manage to completely screw up custom size orders in addition to screwing up "stock" sizes.  I'm halfway convinced they employ mostly serious alcoholics in their cutting room.  But if you get one that fits you well, you're golden.

Pilot Bay is excellent.  All hand made, in person, by Gary & Shannon Howe (local SoCal members of the 501st and Rebel Legion).  Not cheap, and not fast, but extremely accurate and excellent service.  There is always a waiting list, and sometimes it's quite long.

Faraway Creations used to have a great rep, but extremely long wait times have turned off a lot of people.  Supposedly the "most accurate" or so they claim.  That said, a buddy of mine just this past week got one after an incredibly long wait, and was rejected because the pockets were attached noticeably too low.  One anecdote only, but buyer beware.

I think Moncal makes the jumpsuits, too?  I can't recall for sure.  I haven't seen theirs in person, that I know of, but I definitely know they have serious issues with massively long wait times.

Hello officers, troopers, and crew! If you need an inexpensive Line or Staff officer and want semi-instant gratification, cosplaysky.com is having their Chinese New Year sale, with both uniforms 20 bucks off. Check the OT costumes for threads on Cosplaysky's quality and modifications to make, but if you're on the fence now would be the time to jump on this incredibly inexpensive, approve-able uniform. Remember, get your main line or staff officer suits there, go elsewhere for accessories such as hats and belts, theirs are not legit.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this.  Unless you're a Star Wars fan, it's not instantly recognizable as an Imperial Officer's hat.  My wife is Jewish and when I was showing pictures around during Hanukkah one of her older relatives commented that it looked like I was in the Luftwaffe.

Whether they are accurately nazi-ish or not, I agree that seems to be how they are seen by the general public.

I DO wear my officer's hat to squad meetings and official functions, however, usually with my patch shirt.  I like it... feels more Star Wars-y than a ball cap, and being bald, I have to protect my skin from the sun.

I wore mine when I went with a bunch of squad mates to the midnight toy release at toys r us.
We were all wearing kilts too though. And most had star wars shirts.

To be fair I also troop with Brain (SWExpress) so I am just a bit biased when it comes to that LOL. Not saying that Tigg's are any better or worse. I just support Brian because he is a friend. From what I see they both make good products and its up to you who you wish to order from either would work. Though I would suggest doing this to the back of your belt who ever you get it from, I did it to mine last night and it made a BIG difference.

I actually put a little clamp on the end of the wire, so I stick it in my top right breast pocket and clamp in to the inside seam so it stays put!

TiggWolf's belts are just as good as the Etsy guy's, and significantly cheaper.  If you're already ordering the rank bars from her, I know what I would recommend.

I don't think they're actually on the website.  And they were called something funky, if I recall.  Took quite a while for the guy who worked there to actually find them, at my Lowe's, but they did have them, buried in a drawer on the fastener aisle, as I recall.  I bought two, so I'll see if I can find out what the package says when I get home, if I remember.

We don't usually consider what we do to be "cosplay", per se.  The rules and guidelines established by the 501st to ensure unity don't necessarily need to be followed by someone who just wants to wear a costume at Cons and messing around with friends.  The expense involved in going ultra-accurate is a probably a lot higher than you're going to want to get into.  Unless you DO have aspirations to join the 501st, and are willing to spend what it takes to get an accurate costume?

CosplaySky is one of the cheaper vendors who produces relatively accurate costumes.  Their belt and hat are not acceptable for the 501st, but you may not care if you're playing at Cosplay rather than reaching for higher accuracy levels.  Boots tend to be the most expensive part, but again, if you're not planning to join, the cheap tall black Halloween boots (Funtasma) will convey the general idea.  Then just get a rank bar from someone on Etsy (not necessarily 501st acceptable, but fine for playing) and you're set.

Agreed.  Having read Catalyst really enhanced my understanding of what was going on in the movie, as I watched Rogue One.  Frankly, I find it hard to believe that anyone who HASN'T read it is really grasping what all is going on, in the early parts of the movie.

    Egads! I forgot a step!

Okay, back up one. So if you're wondering where the code cylinder pockets came from anyways, here's how.

So first we start with the pattern. Now, from the instructions Char wrote, it seemed like he did his line right under the dart at the collar. So, that's what I did.

Then, I cut off the top, and put an 8" spacer between the top and bottom. Why 8"? Because math.

Really, the reason is because I measured the stem of a friend's code cylinder, which measured 3.5". The instructions tell you to double your pocket depth and add an inch. So 3.5"X2=7", 7"+1"=8".

Fold to where the taped parts meet, trace the existing pattern onto the new stuff, and cut off excess. Might look something like this.

Here's how that step looks on the other pattern (realistically, you only need one, I did a second because I figured a better shot might help more).

And starting the skirt. Parts 11, 12, and 13 were all cut off at the pattern A level, and here you see 12 and 13 are taped together with 5/8" overlap (the seam allowance). This resembles what we see in Char's notes.

And here's 11-13, all lined up. Good to go, right?

    Wrong.

#11 in this is symmetrical, our pattern is not. Quick fix though.

Fold neatly down the center, tape on more of that handy grid fabric, and voila!

Seriously, that stuff is gold on this project.

My code cylinder pockets are just shallow enough to be a problem... the pockets don't go quite deep enough.  The code cylinder sticks out just far enough that the clip (which isn't very strong) doesn't keep it in place well, necessitating frequent adjustment.  I've read others have had this issue as well.  Apparently pretty simple to open the seam at the bottom of the pocket to let it go deeper.  I just haven't done it yet because it's really close, and while occasionally annoying, so far it hasn't annoyed me badly enough that I've made the effort to get the seam ripper off the shelf.

But yes, if he meant just opening a pocket that's sewn too far closed, like they often do with normal suit coats, I concur, that's simply a matter of carefully cutting the threads, just as on on a regular suit.

    It can go whichever way is good for organization. I put Anthologies and Prequels together because technically nothing is OT except, well, OT. Other reason was the limited number of officer costumes in the prequels. You can also list by era (exception being Expanded Universe);

Republic Era and Eve of the Empire (Ep 1-3, The Clone Wars animated series)
The Rule of the Empire (SW Rebels, R1, Ep 4-6)
    The First Order (Ep. 7-9+)
    Expanded Universe (Novels, games, comics)

This way keeps it to four sections. Any other anthology movies that come out will fall into the appropriate era (likely The Rule of the Empire).

As long as you fit their sizes (which are nice and standard, thank goodness), I don't think you'll find anyone who complains about WampaWear's quality.

(The fabric is thick and durable, which can be pretty hot in warm climates, but that's about the only complaint I see with any regularity)
