Interestingly, that "Rebels-style" had construction has apparently made it's way into the real world.  Hats on the Mandalorian are now showing up that have a similarly-different cut on that back flap, where it's no longer basically a straight line around the back flap.

That said, if anything, I'd think that would be best for a L2/L3 detail, if we were to require it at all.  And I don't see a need for the back flap to be shorter than the front flap... I suspect that would vary a bit per individual for fitment reasons, anyway.

    My take, anyway.

Thanks yeah I was thinking the different cut could be an L2 or 3 too. I mentioned that to Liam a couple months ago.  I have actually had someone fix the hat but still it’s not very noticeable. The thing is there’s no pattern for this so that limited any seamstresses who could do it (I asked 7 before someone was willing to give it a try!) And this was done a few years ago so the exact same material can’t be found so I mailed the hat and the seamstress did what they could (and it looks nice)but there was only so much they could do with lowering the crown in back so back is shorter than front for an asymmetrical look and shortening the back flap to make it look elongated. It is something that requires finding a person who can basically create a hat without a pattern and just looking at a cartoon and a 2d drawing. I can take more pictures of the costume with the new hat (although honestly I don’t think there’s a huge noticeable difference), I’ve just haven’t had the time and this whole hat business deflated me a bit because it seems like the best I could get was not good enough but creating something from a cartoon into real life means it’s not going to look exactly like a cartoon, somethings what you can do in animation is a lot trickier to pull off in real life and I’ve got as close as I can get for the hat, but I can get those new pics up soon and I still have the rough draft I was asked to do for the CRL too

  2. @lantern2745 Jeff, that is the best bun I can do— serious that’s no joke (and sorry, I did laugh when I read that, I know you don’t know my hair but yeah, donut bun is a no go with my hair— I tried but it was a hot mess lol) my hair is thick so the kind of bun you ask for will push up the hat, second it will not be nice and neat because I’m not a professional hair stylist nor can I see one right now because where I live covid is high and they are closed (nor would I feel comfortable going to one now). Also my hair is layered and long so not all of it is gonna wrap up— there will always be parts sticking out—you see the shorter layers do not get wrapped up because, we’ll, they’re short, so while longer layers get wrapped by the hairband  the short ones are too short to get wrapped by the hairband  and they stick out. Then the long layers stick out of the hair band because, well, they’re long. That and I just had a hell of a time trying to do it, so you end up with a very sloppy bun.  One would need a giant donut to get all my long hair lol! But they don’t make donuts that big because that would look silly. I can braid it and pin it up but again it’ll be under the hat so may look a little lumpy but that’s what I’m gonna do because my hair will not donut bun neatly nor will the hat sit nicely. The lmo’s just asked for a bun and that’s what I did. My hair is up in these pics. The bun I have now allows the hat to sit normally on my head and is as neat as my hair gets without professional help, trust me I already thought about all of that before I did it. I can try a short haired wig too.  I also have a bald cap and yes I’m being serious. That way I won’t look any different than a bald man or woman, and that look is fine. It’s the Natalie Portman v for vendetta look.  Women look beautiful bald too. I’ll try that, along with braids and short chin length  wig and see what looks best. But sorry, there will be no donut bun, not every woman’s hair goes up nice and tidy in a donut bun and not every woman knows how to style their hair professionally on their own, I don’t think it’s good to demand a certain style, to ask for it to be up and tidy is fine but to tell someone they need a certain style isn’t good imo, everyone has different hair, it could be offensive in some cases, not everyone’s hair looks neat in that style, mine looks like an unruly mess, I think as long as it’s up and neat it’s fine and that’s what mine is in the pics.  and I’ve already asked lmos  if brighter pics are needed. I did brighten some but not sure those are the ones they wanted brightened, but if need to be brighter that’s fine but which ones—still waiting to hear from lmos which ones cause there are 19.

So you want the hat aysemetrical? They honestly don’t look asymmetrical to me,  in the reference pics the front and back flap look the same height. What you’re asking will have front height be taller than the back height. Is that what you want? Please let me know now that an asymmetrical hat like that is what you want because I do not want to do that then later hear how you don’t like that the back is shorter than the front.  Keep in mind my hat height is already just 2.5 inches— so the front will be 2.5 inches and the back will be 1.5–let me know now  if that’s ok because that is literally what your asking for and I’m not going to do anything until you say that’s fine. Drawings and real life look different from each other. I can pin the one I have to look like that and take a pic to see if it looks good if you want. Also please don’t expect it done soon, maybe 4-6 months because first, I may not be able to find that material again because this was done over two years ago— I first posted this in 2018 (and pics of the hat were posted then— why didn’t anyone mention this then? I was just told to tighten neck and shorten sleeves, nothing about hat then,  that would have been really, *really* useful when first pics were up) Second, classes have started, I teach 6 college classes, I don’t have the free time I had in the summer. So, yes, expect the hat to take quite some time, probably winter break I’ll have time to work on it assuming I find the material.

  3. In this pic flap extends a little past ear and touches where the bill starts like “Officer B asset”, that’s what mine does, any longer and it’s gonna wrap around the front, and back looks about same height as crown which mine is. I’ve notice when other characters wear that same hat with the same symbols your pic has it sits a little higher than other types of hats other officers use—I think that hat is just used for specific characters like Snavlin and Konstitine and if someone wants to do those specific characters that’s something they can do with their hats, but I don’t think it was used for generic officers. Also it has the seamless round dome, which I mentioned is impossible irl—so you’re looking at a flap with a round top than a flat one that the officer hats have. Like I said I think the hats were drawn differently for different characters—either to match head shapes or thought it looked better on the character or something. This pic the hat is different from your pic, Ezra’s is different from both of these. I went by what I mostly saw, and since it’s also a cartoon and since all the hat references are obviously a little different from each other, you get as close as you can for what works irl, and irl everyone has different head shapes too, mine is 22 inches, that’s on the smaller side, the hat will look more compact on my head than someone with a bigger head circumference. omq7lVV.jpg

Bottom line in my opinion the shape of your hat is not correct and I will leave it there.

That’s cool! Im honestly not seeing what you’re seeing. Maybe the top is more round but also seamless. You can’t sew a perfectly round but seamless top irl. It’d be like a baseball cap which has several seams because they are pieces of triangles sewn together (and even then it wouldn’t be perfect because the human head isn’t perfectly round),  or you’d have to hire a milliner to use their tools and chemicals to shape it but then it’d be different material (most likely wool felt) and most likely different color then too. I think both those options would not look good imo. It also seems like they look different on different characters. I think there’s either different hats or different head shapes or a mix of both

  5. Then there’s the ones where the bill almost reaches the tips of their noses and completely covers their eyes haha! I think those are hilarious, but not sure that’d look good irl, it looks pretty funny in cartoon life, I think it’d look more silly irl lol. That and it might scare kids, and we’d have a lot of officers walking around with their heads leaned way back haha!

  6. Hi Thanks LMOs I got your email and heard back, here’s a pic with a tighter collar, it really can’t get more tighter because it’s already tight around my neck—maybe you looked at older pics? I fixed the collar last year and labeled the new pics “tighter collar , as for hat too big I assume too tall? Okey dokey! It’s circumference is already 21 inches—that’s my hat size so smaller will be too small for my head, but if you mean too tall got it!! Np! But as for wrinkles/creases I can iron and press and see what that does certainly! What areas with wrinkles were you concerned about? Some I can hit with an iron certainty! But like where the belt cinches and between legs those won’t go away with ironing. With my body type there’s always going to be some creases here and there. Maybe someone smaller can try then. Or if possible just use the pics of the uniform pieces and add a Rebels style option to the olive Officer CRL? But thanks! i46Tb4D.jpg

An email was sent but we had no reply, I assumed changes were being made

Thanks but I did reply last July lol! And emailed a few more times last Fall. Did it go to spam? I did make the changes and added a link to my imgur with all the pics in the emails.  I also sent an email to the new LMOs a couple days ago and haven’t heard back. I’m also thinking if a new CRL is not wanted or too much to do then maybe just add a Rebels style option to the current olive Officer? That might be easier. Thanks!

Hey Lindsay:  I spoke with Jeff about this earlier this week.  Unfortunately, it's all in the hands of the LMOs at this point.  We don't actually have any control over first-to-the-legion approvals, we just give recommended wording and such for the CRL, once approved, but the LMOs have the final say.  As far as we're concerned, it's ready to move forward but the LMOs haven't been responsive on the issue.  (The turmoil in that department recently has not helped matters, I'm sure)

Hi Kalani,  yes I know about this, I’ve talked to Jeff too, he’s been helpful, and has the wording, just a bummer because I fixed everything LMOs asked to fix and resent in July and never again heard from them, but hopefully after elections,  maybe haha! In the meantime my (our) CO said I could do a few troops in it (non HPE ones) if I want until it’s actually official, so at least a can now and then troop in it and that’s nice.

I will be wearing my pin-up / vintage officer version at the Bash, along with a friend.

Someone in the ladies-group organised a group photo for Saturday 6 p.m., location TBD.
Since it's mentioned in the google.doc-sheet, I think it's ok to share the information here.

Just so everyone knows there is a limit to this, the location is going to be kept private, but if interested you need to message Taryn Summer (who organized it) in the Ladies of the Legions fb page and tell her you’re interested in going. There’s a small fee for everyone going to pay the photographer, a private chat has been set up for those ladies going. So if interested message Taryn—look her up in ladies of the legions fb page—she did post about this in that group (she’s not an IOC member). All pin ups from anything Star Wars is fine. But there’s a cut off date and a fee and possibly a limit to those going because the photographer is doing individual as well as group shots so it’s limited in number so all ladies can get individual shoots in the time we have w/photographer. So message her soon!

Hmm.  Details get dropped all the time when animation is rendering.  Are there ANY shots that show the concentric top-stitched rings?  If it ever shows up, I'd say it should be there.  But if it really never shows any rings, I think I'd agree best to leave them off.

One the upside, it would definitely be a distinct hat for the Rebels version, one more major difference.  On the downside, people couldn't use their hats for double-duty.

One option, however, would be to allow them at the basic level to keep them more accessible, and keep the ring-free hats for Level 2.

Yeah, I have never seen them in the animation, also, I figure if I'm already doing the pants with the animation type point (instead of a more rounded look), and animation rank bar and one seam down the middle, then doing the hat animation style is good too.

  11. We can plan for a Sat or Sunday photo time on the stairs but a photographer is needed and I don't know anyone so if someone can find a photographer then let's just say Sat or Sun at 1pm (or whenever I'm just throwing stuff out here) at the stairs where all the other photos are being taken and go!

Explain to me what a Pinup Officer is, and what does it entail?

It's taking an officer uniform and giving it a retro flare--like you might see ladies in uniform/retro dress mash up--maybe you'll see a 50s style skirt (that's how mine is), or pencil skirt style, even more burlesque style. Guys can retro up their uniform too if they want--it's all cool!
