Awesome, thank you! I greatly appreciate the detailed feedback. I'll go through and work on that and eventually submit for the new CRL too.

Appreciate interim feedback! Here are some pics... Please note I do intend to nicely press it all and tack down the middles of the flaps as I finish it out.

OK, so!  After conferring with the rest of staff (thanks Kalani!), I have learned that even though the original "Staff Officer" CRL is no longer active, it is still documented and I am allowed to use it for any L2/L3 submissions for this costume.  (There can't be any new costume approvals using this particular CRL, but we can still do L2/L3 judging of existing costumes using it.)

    So, you have two options:

    1. Have your existing costume judged to L2 (and later L3 if you want) using the original "Staff Officer" CRL.

    2. Upgrade your costume to conform to the specs in the new "Staff Officer (Non Saga)" CRL.  However, if you do this, you will need to resubmit your costume to your GML to be approved as "Staff Officer (Non Saga)" (and have your original "Staff Officer" costume retired), and then you can resubmit the costume for L2 approval here

Since your costume is already approved with the "Staff Officer" CRL and I believe you've completed all the previously requested modifications, option 1 is likely the simplest/easiest in your current situation.  You could also go with option 1 now, get your grandfathered costume L2/L3 approved, and then at some point in the future you could make the changes necessary for approval as "Staff Officer (Non Saga)", resubmit for L2/L3, and potentially rack up some more awards.

Regardless, I'll go ahead and pull together a list of what you'd need to change to conform to the new CRL, since it sounds like you want to go that direction eventually.  Let me know if my explanation above is confusing or if you have any more questions.  Thanks!!

    Hello Sherry,

Based on your pics, and assuming that you'll nicely press the hat and tack down the flaps, I think that this new hat will work out nicely. I'll just note that your side pic doesn't look very conical, but again, I think when you tack the flaps down, it'll hold its shape better and look appropriate.

    Cheers,

Someone had an idea to do a group photo of "pinup style" costumes- started out as officers but as you can see also included some Imperial and Rebel variations, and even got Younglings involved.

Me with my rebel scum husband (NOT Rebel Legion approved- work in progress!)

With a couple of good friends who have actual officer costumes in work, so getting some use out of their accessories in the interim

I have  an awesome pair of Lekku... but I feel like based on the history of Ryloth I'd have a hard time pulling off a Twi'lek Imperial Honestly I've always assumed that the non-diverse representation in the Empire was purposeful, that there was discrimination against non-humans. Thrawn has a back story that explains how he overcame those prejudices. But all that being said, could make for some fun informal costumes.

Yeah to be clear, I don't think you need the laces. If you tailor the legs to be tight to your calves there's no need, and the stirrups will keep them in place even better.

Still better than my Soviet jodhpurs, though, which just have 2 strings at the bottom I have to wrap around my ankle and tie.

I HIGHLY recommend online classes on Craftsy! I started with zero knowledge. In fact, I was so overwhelmed trying to modify existing patterns that I followed the advice of someone else on here to start with a sloper. While it's a ton of work to learn and get set up, I feel like once I finally finish I will sort of know what I'm doing.

I did a bodice sloper class (and it took probably 8-9 iterations of adjusting it until I got one that fit- but it was worth it), and I think there was also a jacket class. I just finished the pant sloper class because after trying 3-4 different patterns for the jodhpurs I realized I didn't know enough about pant construction to feel confident modifying those patterns.

The sticker price is high for Craftsy classes but there are always promos so just wait for those and then it's worth every penny.

There is a site that has Blue Ray quality screen shoots of all the Star Wars movies. I use them for my research all the time because I can't get clear shots from my DVD.

The black officer uniform from ANH is similar to the uniforms of the movie Fahrenheit 451. They used many different officer uniforms in ANH. Only the olive type was used in ESB and ROTJ in the colors olive and black.

Clothears Costume made the black ANH officer uniform for one of the IOC members. The pictures might help.

I bought that pattern drafting book and the Burda pattern. Looks really promising! Although we saw there are changes coming to the staff officer CRL  Hoping that maybe those will be finalized while we work out the basic pattern and fit and it won't hard to adjust.

I got feedback that they look fine. I'm not sure of the sizing, but good to know my GML isn't concerned about that stitching since I've seen similar on other boots with pulls.

I'm pulling together information as I prep to make a staff officer uniform. I've ordered a book on making slopers and drafting patterns, and I'm hoping to use this in conjunction with the men's civil war tunic pattern (just to get an idea of the basic construction). I know this thread was started ages ago, but did you end up drafting a size 12 pattern? That's on the small size for me but I'd be thrilled to get a copy if you did, and I could try out new pattern altering skills on it to fit to my size!
Also, I feel your pain on the boots. I have short legs (about 16" knee height) with normal circumference (14") which translates into custom boot territory. I may end up having to just accept zippers unless something great pops up on eBay.
