    Good questions, Rudi.

I don't recall the black uniformed officers wearing trench coats.  I vaguely recall that being added to the CRL as an appeasement at the time, before it was clear that all trenchcoat-wearers were actually wearing the green uniforms, so unless someone can provide a reference, this may be an opportunity to correct that.  I'd love to hear more discussion on the subject, though, as long as it's actually referenced-based and not "but it seems like they should have it, too, because it's cool and I want to wear one!".

The V.G. is considered Canon, I believe, so that would be enough to include the SE14R, I believe.  That said, yes, actual reference would be all the better, if someone can find something.

Regarding pants, I'm pretty sure all the OT-style jodhpurs are the same basic pattern.  It just varies from person to person how exactly it sits, so you won't know how high they go under the tunic, and whether buttons, laces etc. are hidden under the boots, unless we get more good BTS shots, since we never see those details otherwise.  More important is how the visible parts look, IMO.  I don't really care if the pants come together one way or the other under the boots, because there's really no circumstance that would ever been seen.  Ditto suspenders vs belt loops, unless people are doing extreme stunts on troops.

All that said, I don't make the final calls, but that's my input on those questions.

There is also a pic of the 2 officers in RO visual dictionary wearing trenchcoats.

Fantastic to see this one come to fruition.

    A few questions:

Did the security/black uniformed officers actually wear trench coats in RO? I’ve Looked for them before, but may have to check again.

The SE14R: I know it’s featured in the visual guide, but again is there onscreen footage? I thought I’d seen the Officer in the archive control room wear one, but haven’t been able to find the frame again.

The riding breeches: is it fair to say, or assume, that the breeches were made of the same pattern as Krennic or even the Shoretroopers? Or even those of the Line Officer? Krennic and the Shories all have laced shins/lower legs. Cassian’s pants seem to have a high waist for suspenders. Perhaps something to consider for higher levels of approval?

That's a discussion we can have.  I'll be honest in saying though, that I'm pro hats.  I've always liked the sans hat option the way it is now; where you go for level 2 or 3 as a hatless officer rather than at level 1.

I'd want to see more references, as to those discs on the collar being code discs.  That detail is clear on the hat, but not the collar.  Might be considerably simpler, for the collar.

I agree on the boots and jodhpurs being standard OT style.

Figuring out that disc in the center of the uniform chest will likely need more references, too.

The collar is completely closed, moreso that just a modesty panel.

The upper part of the tunic appears to be an entirely separate panel, sort of like Galen Erso's Tarkin Initiative / Imperial Scientist has a different panel.  (Very different design, though, I'm just using that to illustrate the true panel separation, rather than a mere seam)

And that first image shows something odd with the back of the hat.  Not clear if it's just artistic whimsy in that one frame, or a slightly different design in back.  We'd need to see more references to be sure, I'd think.

The names were arbitrarily decided upon years ago, out of sheer necessity and lack of official canon titles or descriptions. It has gently come up a small handful of times over the years, questioning if they need to be changed, and usually, in the end, not many people really seem to care for such change to happen. So here we are. Line & Staff postilions, as far as the US military defines them can be seen as Line Officers; officers trained to be in command, like Admirals in charge of Navies, fleets and armadas, Star Destroyer Captains, their XOs, and a few others lower down that chain who are in training to take that role one day.  Staff Officers are military officers who've earned officer ranks, but may not always hold a true position of command or higher leadership authority due to their job, in example: doctors, lawyers, chaplains, protocol, personnel, logistics, maintenance, munitions, ect. Since newer canon (Rogue One & Solo) have appeared, official sources have done a fairly good job trying to retcon or somewhat explain the differences, not into separate positions, but more into distinct service branches. I.e. The olive uniforms represent the regular Imperial military's army, navy, and operations (for some reason operations is different than the army...I dunno why) branches, while the black (even including the navy troopers) uniforms are considered Security Forces & Stormtrooper Corps. I think this is not only generally a pretty good way to look at them, functionally, but is more in line with John Mollo's original plan that the black uniformed guys were Vader's men and everything else (excluding the ISB, of course) was basically the regular imperial military. I'm still fuzzy on why a naval captain was reduced to being a recruiting officer on Corellia, but hey, nothing is perfect. lol.

The soles are very thick in comparison to original German Knobelbecher boots. But that is the only thing that isn't 100% correct with these boots.

This isn't reason enough alone to fail these boots for Executor standard. So I would pass these at this level.

They would not meet the higher Imperator level though.

As above, if you're travelling overseas reach out to the local garrison.  Even if you can't troop with them they'll likely invite you along to meet and greet.
Take some merch to trade with you and you will always be extra welcome

So another lockdown update from my Seamstress friend.

Lining and piping is now on. We just need to add the hook and eyes to hold the collar, add the small metal bar on the shoulder and the rank band and iron it and its ready.

Next stage is the pants. And my friend has indicated, if we manage to get this to pass muster, she would be interested in commissions for these (I think she has had a lot of fun making this)

I am about to start working on the belt at my house and sourcing the gloves. Still have no idea on the hat but the ROS Art book indicated it is very similar to the Imperial Officer hat but with the Stormtrooper neckseal style on the inside.

Not sure what everyone else's thoughts are on this but would love to hear if anyone noticed anything different.

So due to isolation and my seamstress friend's work closing, she has been bored and decided to work on my Sith tunic (its currently at her house because she had the fabric and mock up pattern on her when she went into isolation) We made the mock up pattern (green one) together but she is bored and made up the whole tunic herself and is now up to adding the red piping and lining to cover the invisible zip.

She wanted me to stress that this is v01 and not nearly neat or clean enough for her but honestly, having not seen it in person since the pattern stage due to lockdown, I am amazed at how it looks.

Me, being in a different home, made up the rank band the other day.

I am still working at this stage, most of Australia hasn't locked down yet though, my job involves physical work and limited contact with others so as long as my co-workers and myself are safe and don't come in contact with anyone infected we hopefully won't shut-down.
Have heard of others who have lost their livelihood due to most outdoor sporting and entertainment venues barring spectators.

Hi Everyone! I am the cadet mentioned above.

I've been working on and off on this one for a few months now with a seamstress friend who was looking for a challenge and told me she wants to make a ridiculous costume. We have so far patterned a tunic we are both fairly happy with from what we could see from the movie and the encyclopedia guide. We have gone with the idea of an invisible zip up the front, hidden by red piping or embroidery. We were planning to put together a v01 of the tunic in the next few days (already cut out with a medium weight black cotton but since we are both in isolation, we have had to pass it on to each other every few days. I am currently the one without so working on the little pieces)

I also made an embroidered rank band based on the First Order Captain ones (glad to know I am not the only one who can't read the one in the picture) and managed to find a 3D file for the Sith Logo on the hat and belt. I have a Imperial Belt buckle on order (sans the central cog) and some First Order boots as it looks like that is the ones worn here.

I have no idea what is going on with the hat so if anyone has a back or side picture of it, I would love to have a look.

I have a build thread going on the Knightfall Forum which I am happy to post here if anyone is interested to see my W.I.P. and what I have deduced from my own investigations.

Looking forward to working on this with you all and getting your input

There is no CRL at this time.  There needs to be a costume in order to publish one and discussion has stopped until better references are available.

If you just want Cog patches, they're readily available on eBay, from Amazon, from WampaWear... all over.  Patches are acceptable for basic approval, but for higher level accuracy, the CRLs call for something different.

If you want the more accurate vinyl cogs, needed for higher level approvals, I'd recommend buying them from Voodoo's sales thread.  I don't believe you need a full 501st or IOC member to see things in this forum, as this is where people go to buy parts for their costumes.

    Cool, thanks.

It can be something simple like...

    IOC CRLs:

    New / WIP / Proposed:
    1. xxx
    2. yyy

Revamping or maybe Re-wording or Updating:
    1. xxx
    2. yyy

And if their is a build thread or WIP thread, maybe the link can be attached here.  Just a thought.
