Unfortunately, I will be spending this holiday-- like I have the last 2 Christmases, New Years and Thanksgivings.. at work. Also unfortunately, I happen to be working in a retail store this year, so I get the added excitement of surviving the Black Friday hoardes. Nonetheless, well-wishes to everyone this Thanksgiving!

It's always sad when the familiar faces of Star Wars leave this life, from leading roles to background characters, they took pivotal part in the movies that would inspire generations and generations of popular culture and nerdy convention.

I thought I would share my first troop with you all.

First Troop. Stollery Children’s  Hospital, Edmonton Alberta, Canada.

I don’t even know where to begin... nausea, nerves, excitement, fear and and absolute joy. This is what I experienced at my first troop. I can truly say that this is one of the most memorable days of my life. The pure joy that we brought to those wonderful children going through what may be one of the worst time of their little lives was amazing. There wasn’t a single person in the room that didn't have a smile.

We had parents comment on how they could not  remember when their child last smiled so much or that it was the most they were able to do in days. One little girl was dancing up a storm, laughing and playing the entire time. Her mother told us that the day before she wasn’t even walking and had no energy...don’t you know that she was one of the last kids to stay and play with us. Amazing!!!
We did have the opportunity to walk through some wards, where they were too unwell to make it out to see us. I seriously could have stayed all night with those kids.

I had the honour (Canadian spelling) of seeing and meet some wonderful members of my Garrison who took me in as one of their own from the moment I said “Hi, I’m the new guy.” They showed me what it is to be a member of the 501st. My only regret is that I didn’t join sooner.

now... the bad. I lost one of my code cylinders... but I have a set coming from Philo soon anyways.

In my opinion, ACD have been fine stewards of the costume. I'm happy to say since I've been here, we've never had a need to squabble about what detachment it belongs in. IOC is still happy to assist with the regular officer parts of the costume. It's not the only costume that shares parts/pieces with costumes in other detachments. Dat CRL model tho....

Much as I've seen, from strict movie references, line officers have not been seen in battle plate in any other circumstance. Think of the Tantive boarding, Bespin trap and the battle on Endor.
None of the line officers in these situations were seen donning the battle plate, so it's probably safest to assume the plate is directly tied to armored divisions, and maybe cold weather assignment.

At least, that's my take on it

Shouldn't the CRL for the AT-AT Commander be referred to as something else? I feel like it's more accurately described as a form of battle-dress for Line Officers; Shouldn't the costume be like the 181st Dress Uniform and have a dual-inclusion in both the IOC and the ACD if, for no other reason, because 80% of the costume is just that of an Imperial Line Officer?

General Veers is shown to have an average Line Officer uniform, until the Battle of Hoth when he wears a chestplate and helmet over his uniform. So does that make him an Officer or an AT-AT Commander, and if the answer is "both" then why isn't the costume listed for both?

What day is today, you may ask? Well it's pay-day, of course! For me, at least.

And that means that I have a quantity of money.

And that  means that I can order my Staff Officer uniform from CosplaySky tonight.

And that  means that I'll have the bulk of my uniform soon!!

Remember, you don't HAVE to have the Belt Boxes and Pistol for approval - you can add those later and get them approved.  Just so you remember that once you have the required items, you are ready to submit.

I've been told that velcro or other discrete fastenings will assist there; anything you can do to rig the belt so that it doesn't move from your hip without showing on the outside. I've also been told that if you can't do that, then you will need to suffice with either a lighter blaster, or no blaster at all.

Those Tough Gloves are very popular gloves with TIE pilots in the JRS.  Should work perfectly for an Officer as well.

That said, I agree with Vonmoen that the WampaWear gloves are cheaper and just as good.

The blaster is 100% optional.  It's not required to go with the outfit at all.

That said, the correct blaster (if you use one) for the officer is the MSP5, not the DL44.  They share the same base, but you are correct in that it would be a hassle to go back and forth between the Solo-style setup and the MSP5 setup.

I own that same DL-44 for use as ANH Han Solo, and it's very nice for the price.  (there are a bunch of innaccuracies, but again, for the price, it's darned good)

There's a guy here on IOC that does regular runs of completed MSP5s that you could get.  I converted a Denix myself, and am extremely happy with the appearance, but be forwarned it's REALLY heavy on the sort of belt we use.  Needs lot of Velcro to hold it in place.  If I was to make another, I'd pick up an inexpensive Airsoft (MUCH lighter than the Denix) from eBay (be careful not to buy the ones that are scaled smaller... and read the reviews carefully, because some claim to be 1:1 scale but are not) so it's lighter weight, and add the 3D printed parts from Shapeways, Thingieverse, or Etsy to complete it.  It's a pretty simple build.

Thank you for the input nonetheless! it'd be perhaps better to look for gloves that could be used with every uniform so that it has dual usability should I make more costumes in the future.
