Christina reacted to DarthFunk83 in Plexiglass Rank Bars Approvable?
Hey Christina. The discussion on rank bars can be a bit overwhelming. So, Ill first say that Im in not position of authority here (so I could be wrong on certain details), and unless something has changed in the last week (I havent checked the forums as often in the past week due to vacation), plexiglass rank bars still should be good for basic approval. I think there is a movement right now to try and get push button rank bars put in the CRL, but that should/would be implemented for L3 or L2. I doubt for basic approval.

And once you get basic approval, you are grandfathered in. You dont have to worry about it, unless you wanted to get higher approval (i.e. L2 and L3).

    Hope that helps

I know this is an old post, but I recently got the Rogue One Visual Dictionary, and I didnt see anyone else post these two images of the Line Officer trench coat here, so I decided Id post them. The two pictures in the VD are front images, which is great!!

    Hello everyone !

I looked on the forum if there weren't any dicussions about that yet, as I didn't find anything I thought I would share the info with you !

I just found that screen on the internet ! Line officers would wear some sort of thench coats !!

Actually it caught my attention because I recently planned to go out with my staff officer uniform and to wear a black trench above it (cold outside !).. And thinking to it I was saying to me : " Would be interesting if imperial officers would actually wear some coats of that kind as they can't only wear their single uniform in any situations "

    Thanks, I hope so too!

And after going back and reading their February Newsletter again, it says that they will offer Free shipping for orders over $150 (for CONUS orders only, weighing up to 15 lbs), so if you wait and find a valid 10% code on top of the free shipping...you're gonna get a good deal.
    https://www.hessenantique.com/Articles.asp?ID=239

But it looks like you were able to get in on the new standard Free shipping option.

Good to know, thanks! After scouring the internet for coupon codes (and not finding any that would apply right now) I ended up placing an order last night. My total also came to $309.50. I hope your boots arrive soon!!

Well, today marks the 6th week my boots have been on order. I sent them a PM via their FB page asking for an update and they got back to me that my boots have been produced and are on their way to them from Spain. They should hopefully have them in a week and turn around and mail them to me. I'm crossing my fingers that I have them within the next 2 weeks, which would put the overall turn around to 8 weeks and just in time for WonderCon.

They sometimes offer discount codes in the form of free shipping or 10% off an order that's listed in their newsletters. With the 10% off code, it saves you a few more dollars off than the Free shipping so that's probably your best bet. My total for my custom boot order with the added non-skid boot sole option came out to $309.50 with Free Shipping (7 day ground). So definitely sign up for their newsletter and keep an eye out for the codes.

What a wonderful review/recommendation! I too ordered a belt and rank bar from them (about a month ago) and am excitedly waiting for them to arrive, and it's nice to hear that it will be well worth the wait.

So, back in December (December 6th) I ordered a rank bar and belt from Tiggwolf Creations on Facebook. About a week ago, I received an email from UPS that a package had been sent to me, and today I got a package in my mailbox! I originally ordered a Commander-style rank bar (4 blue, 2 orange) for 10$, and a Belt for 40$. First of all, I want to say these are -- IN MY EXPERIENCE-- the cheapest I've been able to buy a belt/rank bar. My first set, which weren't even 501st-approvable, cost me almost 70$.

I was warned that it would take a few months for the product to get back to me. I was perfectly OK with this and appreciated the warning. I paid through PayPal, a total of 62$ (40 + 10 + 10 for shipping + 2$ tax). About a month after I made my order, I messaged them to see what the progress was and was updated quicker than I could even leave the chat window, told that the order was one of a large batch and would still take a while. I expected this answer and thanked them for the response. A month after that, I asked for an update again, and was updated again. At this time, I asked them if it would be possible to change my order from a Commander-style bar to an ANH Captain-style one (6 orange), a request they obliged happily and I was quite impressed as I fully expected them to tell me that it was too late or there was nothing they could do to alter the order.

So, today-- officially 3 months after I made my order-- I received the package in the mail. I immediately unwrapped it and was impressed! The belt was uncut and unpunched, as I requested (but also how I'm told they do it normally) and the belt came in a nice drawstring baggie to protect it from scratches. There was obvious care taken to keep the items safe in transit, with abundant amounts of bubble wrap. The belt is truly a work of beauty and I'm excited to wear it in-uniform.

The bar was impressive, to say the least. I didnt expect it to be so sturdy-- it's made of a rather solid bit of metal, with a strong magnet and nicely shaped blocks of acrylic. I had eagerly unwrapped the bar to see if they indeed kept to my request to change the bar, as if they would've forgotten-- They did not! A beautiful amber bar.

I've recommended them before based on their response times alone, but now I can recommend them on their product. A saying goes that you have to sacrifice one of the three when ordering 501st accessories/replicas-- Time, Quality or Expense. Well, it took about 3 months, but now I have a very nice looking and very cost-effective Rank bar and Belt in my wardrobe!

Hey guys. I know Im late to the discussion, but I think I identified where the ID designation comes from (or at least one possible origin for it). I was doing some research into another costume, going through some old RPG books, and I came across a supplementary book for Star Wars: Galaxy at War (Saga Edition). On page 97, there is a chart. Here is a scan of the chart:

Now, why those authors decided ID is unknown, but I thought Id post this for your guys' info.

Christina reacted to fil5117 in Third hand information from John Mollo regarding Officers
I was discussing the officer uniform on another forum - when Peter Briggs a screenplay writer who's currently developing Panzer 88 with Gary Kurtz made this comment:
"I remember that John Mollo told me that his intent with the "Black Officers" was to make them Vader's personal troops…they were Vader's very own "SS". I was surprised at that, as I always assumed they were simply a standard Imperial rank. Likewise, John told me that the white/cream uniformed guy in the Death Star conference was modeled after Goering, and he was meant to be a sort of Air Field Marshall of the Imperial Fleet. John took his job very seriously. I think it showed!"
I couldn't think where to put it, but I thought it was worth sharing, for those who hadn't heard it.

Ooh ooh ooh, we finally have an in-universe answer for this one!  The Rogue One Visual Guide indicates that it is a "Private datapad contained in shockproof case".  For those with the book, check out page 121, the picture of Lieutenant Mytus Adema.

(and then check out the previous page where we get an in-universe justification for the "non-uniform" rank badges. )

I've bought 3 of Steve's limited edition prints (cruise the galaxy, alderaan by moonlight and a real world poster - Catalina island). I love the simplicity and timeless quality to his work. He also did the cover for a recent Star Wars Propoganda poster book. So yep I've ordered two of these books

Christina reacted to Keever in Confession time, and information for new builders
As I slowly work on my Staff Officer build (hampered by finances... sigh), I just thought I'd share two mistakes I've made, in the hopes that other rookies won't waste their time and money.

First and foremost, read through the forums.  Go back a long, long time through them.  There are answers hidden several pages back that might be what you're looking for.

Second, start a thread.  Ask questions (after you've looked a long, long time back through the forums).  The people here have been wonderfully helpful to me, and I trust they will be to you as well... we're all doing this for the same reason.

Third (and this is to save you going back too far for this information), don't get the hat and belt from cosplaysky.  I read the thread about the belt not being approvable (the buckle's corners are too rounded, and the belt itself is REALLY cheap material), about 10 days after I ordered it, and of course, it had already shipped. As for the hat, it only took a glimpse to realize that there's no way it will pass in the condition it arrived in... the brim's a couple cm (a little over an inch) too long, the side flaps are stitched on the wrong way, and not centred, and it just generally sits wrong.

I'll be doing another post soon, with information about the pieces that I've been accumulating for my build, and the things I've learned soon.  I just want to get a couple of pics first, and I'm notoriously bad for hiding behind the camera.

So.  New Builders.  Learn from our mistakes.  Then go out and make new and exciting mistakes of your own, and share them with us!

We don't usually consider what we do to be "cosplay", per se.  The rules and guidelines established by the 501st to ensure unity don't necessarily need to be followed by someone who just wants to wear a costume at Cons and messing around with friends.  The expense involved in going ultra-accurate is a probably a lot higher than you're going to want to get into.  Unless you DO have aspirations to join the 501st, and are willing to spend what it takes to get an accurate costume?

CosplaySky is one of the cheaper vendors who produces relatively accurate costumes.  Their belt and hat are not acceptable for the 501st, but you may not care if you're playing at Cosplay rather than reaching for higher accuracy levels.  Boots tend to be the most expensive part, but again, if you're not planning to join, the cheap tall black Halloween boots (Funtasma) will convey the general idea.  Then just get a rank bar from someone on Etsy (not necessarily 501st acceptable, but fine for playing) and you're set.

Agreed.  Having read Catalyst really enhanced my understanding of what was going on in the movie, as I watched Rogue One.  Frankly, I find it hard to believe that anyone who HASN'T read it is really grasping what all is going on, in the early parts of the movie.
