wedgenbiggs reacted to kman in Meaning of the Prefix "ID"
As I understand it, the designations don't actually stand for anything. The authors of the books that expanded the SW universe just thought they sounded cool.
The only truly Canon designation is "TK", since that was used in ANH. And that isn't an acronym.
So you can pretty much think of them any way you want. But there's no official breakdown, as they're not actually acronyms.

I'm liking imperial designation. Sounds legit in our universe.

I thought it meant Imperial Detachment or Imperial Designation or something like that.

Goofing around with the Rebel Legion at a pediatric charity event for Team Abigail at Faster Fitness in Huntington Beach, California on St. Patricks Day, 2018. Vader would not stop saying "I have you now..."

Subjugation of planets and peoples who were once free and super-weapons meant to strike fear into those who would dare to resist - not to mention the fact that their leader committed the mass genocide of an entire people who had an opposing philosophy to his...seems pretty clean-cut evil to me.

wedgenbiggs got a reaction from Ubernostrum in Enlarging compad window
So on my CosplaySky flight suit, I carefully snipped the corners of the window up until the inner seam. I folded the now free portions of the window under the inner seam portion and then used double-sided iron-on tape strips to hold them in place. Once that was done, I took the extra step of sewing in a fuzzy patch of Velcro into the middle of the window and glued the hooked side of the Velcro to the bottom of my Comm Pad - this helps to keep the pad from slipping out of the now larger window (something I see all the time on folks during troops). It was a pretty quick and painless procedure to open the window in this manner and the best part is, I can dry clean and wash the flight suit and the sticky tape holding the flaps back sticks through and through.
I'm sure there are other thoughts on this and techniques but this worked beautifully for me. Good luck.

Agreed completely. The bad guys have the best uniforms.

Yeah don't get me wrong. I'm not going to stop dressing up in Imperial uniforms. They look awesome. A good villain is better than a good hero in fiction (and Star Wars has both, fortunately). But I'm not under any illusions as to what they're meant to represent.

I think, unequivocally, yes. The Empire was evil.
Was every person in the Empire evil? No, probably not. But much like the "clean wehrmacht" myth, they're more complicit than they are stupid.
As far as things going pretty well, I don't think that's really true, either. Entire species were enslaved, freedom of speech was nonexistence, everything we consider to be human rights in real life (and I guess we'd call something else since not everyone's a human in Star Wars) were suppressed. They definitely didn't have "basic rights."

Sorry to double post, but it's right in the opening crawl, in fact:

I'm doing the same thing - I submitted my Staff Officer today, but when I took the pictures I also took ones without the rank bar and cylinders.
Once my Staff is approved, I'll send in the second set of photos for the Warrant Officer.
