My first thought when I saw this episode was "We would never accept them at the 501st with these uniforms."
But I'm very happy we finally get to see some imperial Officers in the show!
Now let the mess and discussion beginn.... XD

The wheel of officer wardrobe confusion takes yet another turn.
 
In-universe explanation: Empire collapsing, local warlords setting up their own rank/uniform system etc.
 
Behind the scenes: "Ah we'll just take whatevers left from R1/Solo, mix and match on each actor and call it a day."
 
Imperial officers and their uniform accessories just cant seem to get a break.
 
Least thats my 2 cents of it. Still, an absolutely great show.

Double row rank bars on black uniform.  Rogue One sized tiles.
 
Belts on backwards.  Belt boxes.
 
That holster is kinda tight tho.  Surprised it's so different looking than the mimban one.

Hahahaha...... I was talking to my father about getting back into the 501st again (1999-2003 Active) and since I am sure he has nothing better to do, he dug this old treasure up out of the old family photos. Now if I can find a big enough set of PJ's to recreate the picture this Christmas LOL

As Jeff and Kalani already said, ID numbers should be ok once you have one and Kalani pointed something out to consider, personal patches might not be as popular as official Garrison stuff.
And we also don't want the mouse house to be mad at us
You can also ask @Steven about it, he is our Austrian Garrison merch officer and has for sure good advice for you.

So far as I'm aware, personal coins, patches or stickers can be just about anything you want so long as they DON'T have 501st, your garrison, or a detachment name on them.
ID numbers are okay - I believe.
These things are 100% optional.  Some folks love trading personal swag, some not so much.  I'm a trading card kinda guy, and those are a whole different animal.

Not every Legion member has their own design.  In fact, I'd say relatively few do.  Mostly people with the talent to do the art themselves, or the strong desire to have someone do it for them (as a favor, perhaps, or for a commission fee?).  Then you have to actually buy the custom patches/stickers, which are not cheap given setup fees and the quantity needed to purchase.  But there's no one in the Legion who has the job of creating personal designs for every new trooper... that would be crazy, fast.
 
Many, but not all (as Jeff noted... there are plenty of people who are not interested in merch) people like to collect patches and such from their Garrisons and groups around the world, and trading is a fairly popular pastime at large get-togethers, or when visiting other groups.  Personal patches get traded as well, of course, for those who have them, although unless they're particularly compelling for some reason (or you're particularly popular), they don't tend to have as much value as official Legion stuff does.  (Obviously a good friend will be more interested than a total stranger)
 
The 501st Legion name, Garrison Names, Squad names, and all the various official logos are not allowed to be on personal merchandise.  But beyond that, since it's your personal merchandise, you can do anything you want with it.  The Legion is not involved, except to make sure their protected names and logos are not being used.  (Disney limits how much official merchandise can be made, since it's their intellectual property and copyrighted material we're working with, so our logos can't be used. If they were, it would look like we're trying to get around their rules and limits, and it's dangerous to bite the hand that allows us to play!)
 
All that being said, we're all Star Wars geeks here, so whip up something cool and show us! LOL

Working in IT, i'm condemned to home office giving all office people of my company and our customers IT support. Which is i have to admit a lot, our telephones running hot, everyone seems to have a problem with their computers and internet.
I have to go outside from time to time due to things that can only be solved local.
Living in Austrias capital city Vienna which is unfortunately in the middle and therefor a hotspot for covid19 where almost everything is shut down except for supermarkets and pharmacies is somehow weird and feels like i'm in an endtime movie or something. The streets are empty most of the day.
I want to thank everyone working in hospitals and medical facilities as well as everyone who is still working to keep the system running taking the risk of infection to help others. You are the true heros.

It's important information like this combined with the experience that everyone makes during the process of getting to the desired costume/character/makeup that makes everyone look better with their make up out there on a troop.

Interesting everyone comparing the Empire to the Third Reich when it’s really closer in structure and attitude to the British Colonial Empire of the early 20th century.

I’m mostly looking at this from a Canon only perspective.

The core (home islands) was wealthy and generally peaceful and prosperous under Imperil rule. There was some civil strife and horrid working conditions for the lowest classes (just like industrial Britain).

The emperor was largely a “hands off” ruler at times, allowing his regional governments to rule the empire and promoting a culture of cronyism, much like the British Monarchy at the turn of the century.

If you look at the worlds outside the galactic core they are all left mostly under semi autonomous control of regional moffs and governors, some prosper and are very pro Empire (Canada, Australia, New Zealand), others suffer under oppression (India, Africa), while even others are stripped bare of resources and exploited (again Africa, the Caribbean , the Far East).

Revolts and rebellions were handles roughly, and at times with very questionable methods both by the Empire and Imperial Britain.

Even the imperial uniforms have more in common with First World War British Officer uniforms than anything Third Reich.

A similar comparison could be made between the Empire and Imperial Germany, but to me it’s more akin to the British Empire at its height.

So really the Empire is neither good nor evil, both can be true from “A certain point of view” - Ben Kenobi.

Now the Third Reich comparison can easily be played at the First Order, which is far less subtle in its approach and is vocally genocidal and fanatical.

I would not say that the Empire was completely evil. There is no doubt that the leadership of the Empire was evil but overall I would say that the Empire was a force for good. On the flip side, I would not say that the rebellion was either completely good or evil. The regular men on the front lines of both sides of the conflict believed they were helping to bring about a better galaxy. The Republic was rife with corruption, piracy and myriad other crimes that the Senate ignored and the limited amount of republic peacekeepers couldn't handle. The Empire changed that and was cutting down on the crime syndicates that were rife during the republic. The average Imperial soldier signed up to bring order to a chaotic galaxy. Some probably signed up after seeing vids of rebel groups like Saw Guerrera blowing up dozens of civilians to kill one stormtrooper. Once again, I am not saying that the empire was wholly good but I would say that it was more good than bad. I would continue but I doubt anyone wants to read a five page essay on why I like the Empire.
