IcyTrooper reacted to Eagle in New CRL starter thread for the Imperial Tech (The Bad Batch)
Irrelevant, but if you paid attention to my campaign, I ran on detachment unity. That means working with them and negotiating and not isolating the IOC. We're not in good standing right now with the other detachments due to poor decision-making and anti "stronger together" policy. This certainly isn't helping the IOC's case.

Are we going to pretend that all those parts besides the tunics aren't used in other detachments? The belt alone is in several detachments: Spec Ops, JRS, ICG to name a few. Rank Bars are in Spec ops, ACD, BF. The pants are just the lower half of the jumpsuit with flares. The jumpsuit is used on other CRLs, not in the IOC.

I can tell you what I wouldn't do. Protest for a whole new detachment because I didn't get my way. Army troopers are long established Spec Ops CRLs. You can't just try to steal the current ones for the IOC. Another great "stronger togher" policy from your leader. Since these troopers are established, it only makes sense that the Andor troopers go to Spec Ops.

    1) Special forces, hence Spec Ops.
2)Phasma was just a TK with a high rank, not special forces. Hence FISD.

The metric I'm using is that this character is wearing a gunner helmet, which is the literal logo of IGC. Also, they already have the Imperial Weapons Tech CRL, which is nearly identical to this one in terms of the overall design—Gunner helmet, grey outfit, etc.

An officer tunic is the only officer exclusive part of this. You don't need experts for that item because tunics are readily available.

There's no pushback for the reasons you think they are because or because it's a bad idea. It's all technical. Dual affiliation requires a lot of backend tech work and would consume a lot of time. Going through 30000 approved kits to update detachment affiliation would be challenging. Most people only use the detachment for merch runs and kit assistance. The active users that would appreciate the feature are a minority. Is it worth the time? I don't think so, personally.

The system we have right now is fine; if it aint broke, don't fix it.

    ACD, not Blizzard Force.

That is a good message, but not everyone on your staff believes that. People here treat the IOC as the best detachment in the legion; every other detachment is beneath the IOC. (I guess that's a fitting attitude for officers) There is nothing wrong with detachment pride, but once you start trying to steal CRLs from other detachments or being rude towards other detachment members or staffers, you're an elitist. Not saying you are, but again, there are people here and on the IOC staff that take this way too seriously, those people need to do a reality check. Plastic spaceman club, not the actual Empire.

When you start stepping on other detachments' toes, you only create anger in this group. That has happened here and it flies in the face of stronger together.

Because, as you said, we are stronger together. I'm a member of multiple detachments and will advocate for them equally. We dont have a claim to this. They wear gunner helmets. Let's stop picking fights with other detachments, please. Andor and Mando have given us plenty of new officer things. Don't pretend a tech wearing a gunner helmet belongs in the IOC, when the ICG already has a similar CRL.

If people here think this belongs in the IOC, consider this. The ICG has six CRLs; we have close to 50. They rarely get new characters to create. Time to put your money where your mouth is. This is stronger together. The ICG deserves this CRL, not the IOC.

I'm not sure where those images and names came from, but not the current rank chart used by the IOC.

Long story short, though, there's quite a bit of inconsistency between films because they had different costume designers who did not necessarily respect precedent.  There are a number of variations of spacing used on various rank bars.  Essentially if you are trying to replicate a particular officer's rank for a Level 3 approval, you would do well to emulate their specific spacing as well.

Meanwhile, the most current rank chart can be found here:

I have unpinned this current thread, as well, and added this updated link to the OP, to help reduce future confusion.

There really was no guesswork and no messy decisions, there.  I'm not sure why you keep bringing the Solo Navy Trooper back in.  I personally took screenshots FROM THE ACTUAL MOVIE that showed it more than clearly enough, especially in combinations with what we know from other sources, including the actual prop makers from the movie.  They're posted right in the thread.  Why is this one so troublesome for you?

Commenting on this long debate without sounding “judgy” is going to be a real challenge, but I’m going to try and help.

Here is some knowledge I’ll drop. If everyone knows this already, then please disregard but the latest talk about LFL leaves me thinking it may not be common knowledge.

Every single costume used in SW starting with ANH has undergone “continuity reference”. They are front, back and side photos that help the costume department maintain continuity whenever they have reshoots or costume variants (like for the stunt crew). There are some exceptions like for stand ins, but you can assume any primary costume has had these photos taken. This bit probably isn’t knowledge.

Next is that LFL has a “photo archive”. It houses all these images taken starting in 1977 and the assets came along with the sale to Disney. It is owned by LFL / Disney and is available to most of the LFL employees. These photos typically are NOT available to the public but may be viewed, if you know the right person to ask.

Part of my journey as the SLD-DL was to build relationships with folks at LFL over the years. As such, I’ve been able to request and review reference material from time to time (including the photo archive). It’s been enormously helpful, as you can imagine in answering some of these questions like the one you’re all struggling with. Especially older costumes that haven’t physically survived time and never were displayed at museum events and the like.

So how does the IOC gain access to such reference material when they have a bugaboo like this? My first suggestion is to NOT start tweeting about it or even inferring you’re entitled to know. This takes a soft hand, a diplomatic approach and a humble attitude when you find the right people to ask. Remember, they (at LFL) all have signed NDAs and sharing this type of intel isn’t always the smartest career move. Your DL should be looking for these inroads (if he hasn’t already) and trying to build bridges. Most LMOs have made some of these connection or know other folks in 501st leadership that can help. Christ, I had the legion set me up for a 1.5 hour interview with Brian Muir last week! They can move mountains for you - when you are humble and collaborate. However they aren’t “required” to do more for the detachment than they already have.

    Maybe try a softer approach.

Hi there, I only just stumbled across this thread today and have to say that I am quite shocked by some of the disrespectful comments aimed at the Spec Ops detachment. As a long serving staff member of Spec Ops (currently DL) we do not tolerate this kind of behaviour from anyone on our forums. We take great pride working on our CRL's and adhere to the CRL development guidelines 110%. If you have issue with any of our CRLs you should bring that up with us on our forums as we are happy to take feedback.

    Thanks

Hi, bargain basement SWAT team Lt. Sunber here.

For what it's worth, under the "Character Approval" in the "CRL and New Costume Survival Guide", it states:

The way it's written, it sure sounds like some leeways can be given. A full back reference is not required as some have stated on this thread. Legion costumes have had a track record of getting updated over the years as more reference materials emerge. A "complete ensemble" costume and CRL has been developed closely following available reference images. Just my two cents - when there are conflicting opinions I like to draw people back to the original text (to take feelings and assumptions out of the equation).

    Hi folks.

The LMO received a request from IOC to include the imperial army operations office in the 501st roster of costumes.

If it passes our LMO poll in 7 days time we'll be back here to help with the CRL.

    Thanks for your patience,

Hi. I would like to present to you, reference photos of the uniforms of officers present in the game, In my opinion, each of the examples given below has the same uniform, the final appearance of which depends on the rank, division or formation to which they belong (fleet, ground forces or intelligence).

    Some Examples:

    Keeper from Imperial Inteligence

    Navy officers

    Lieutenent Sylas

    Captain Orzik

    Rycus Kilran

I working now on  pyhsical model of basic tunic (Keeper model) then I will make others insignia .

IcyTrooper reacted to BONJOVI23 in ISB Agent (BF2)
Hello, I am working on the ISB Agent WIP, there are many differences between this suit and Kallus', I will explain them based on the captures and photos that I have been able to take from the game.   I bring back the debate whether the suit is black or dark grey. It is necessary since I see that there is a difference with Kallus's suit.   Suit: Suit may appear grey due to overexposure of light in main menu display mode. As with line officer suits when they were believed to be gray.   https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xmka6r9mbnphc71a5whtn.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xsxcftltkpqf674klksw.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xx8z5yybttvk58fetf94x.jpg   But observing the suit within the game we can see that in a "natural" light environment like Tattoine, the suit is much darker, and it can be seen that it is black. In turn, the grey central panel on the front is darker.   https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xi3nfuk158dit7cz6s8u.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xxr9d2lwljf18lbc81t5.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xzbskb1kstz74af5ti5y.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xrcrtyw7951gtka1q753.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xzj1dqdae2962fi38dize.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xx7qv57v8nnsxuh4m3kps.jpg     We can see that it is black since the color is similar to the belt, the boots, or the straps that join the chest armor with the back. The color of the suit changes slightly at different points within the Tattoine map, I imagine due to shadows, position against the sun, etc.   The pants have a curvature, but they are not as accentuated as the officer joppurs.   https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=x37umfrngli3ymzl7zley.jpg https://www.overpic.net/viewer.php?file=xrcrtyw7951gtka1q753.jpg   I want to know your opinion on whether you see it Black or dark grey. Thank buds!!

I believe that after the defeat at the Battle of Yavin, Palpatine carried out a massive military reform in order to increase the combat power of the armed forces of the Empire. The replacement affected everything: from weapons and insignia, to ships. This is the only way to explain the sharp change in insignia after Yavin.

IcyTrooper reacted to kman in Anovos Imperial Officer Hats
Personally, I find the Anovos hats to be on the floppy side, and the fabric choice is a bit odd.

They make sense if you have an Anovos uniform, but I would not choose them to go with the uniforms from any other maker.  (The exception would be the Olive Line Officer hats, which are hard to come by.  If you have that specific Anovos uniform, but no hat, I'd definitely jump on this.)  Otherwise, there are better and cheaper options, which have the added bonus of not having to risk an order from Anovos.

Also note this warning: "Please Note: Original Trilogy hat cockade pin will ship separately later in Q3/Q4 2020."

In other words, the code disk ships separately.  I wouldn't count on seeing those in the timeframe promised.  They're available from other sources, of course, if you want to spend more rather than wait, but count the added cost when deciding.

    Hey gang!
I'm not sure where to drop these, so this is where they'll live for now.

I finally watched the Star Wars Squdrons game play trailer, and took screen shots of things I felt would be of interest to us.

There is a Gray Suited crewman guy

He seems to have the R1 style cogs, belt boxes and (Solo Mimban gogles?).

We have a new.. what I'm calling a "Controller" for now, reminicsent of the one from Rebels

In the second "Controller" picture, you can just make out princess seams on the Captain's shoulder.  I haven't seen if the officer render has a straight seam as well (like in Battlefront 2)

And lastly of interest for us is what I beleive to be Admiral Sloane.  Not yet a Grand Admiral though.

You can see the distinctive white stripe of hair on her left.  That's gotta be her.  I don't know the timeline for when she got the GA uniform, but man would it have been nice to see.

As we get close to the game launch (October 20?) I'm sure we'll see more.

So due to isolation and my seamstress friend's work closing, she has been bored and decided to work on my Sith tunic (its currently at her house because she had the fabric and mock up pattern on her when she went into isolation) We made the mock up pattern (green one) together but she is bored and made up the whole tunic herself and is now up to adding the red piping and lining to cover the invisible zip.

She wanted me to stress that this is v01 and not nearly neat or clean enough for her but honestly, having not seen it in person since the pattern stage due to lockdown, I am amazed at how it looks.

Me, being in a different home, made up the rank band the other day.
