The West End Games Death Star Technical Manual was what I tried to use when proposing the development of a CRL for the Imperial Army Trooper, but was told that it's no longer considered canon. We wound up going with the version from Dark Horse comics.

I never could figure out where the name came from, and agree that there needs to be a fresh discussion on what to call them. "Operations" or "Security" Officers makes a bit more sense.

OK Officers and Crew, we're looking for awesome, quality photos of IOC members in action at events to post on our Facebook page, so if you have one that you'd like to share, post it here. If possible, avoid posting photos with the general public in the background. You can have a bit of fun posting humorous photos, but keep it in good taste. Photos will be picked at random and posted on Facebook, and we'll try to pick photos that reflect the spirit of the Officer Corps. Please include a brief description of the event, TKIDs of the members, and Garrison info.

The Imperial Army Engineer (Black version of the IAT) is almost completed, some heavier armored versions are being looked at, and a Combat Medic is a possibility.

Well I picked up a copy of the Star Wars Imperial Handbook a while back and was reading through it to learn a bit more about the Imperial Army, which is under represented in the movies. Page 64 of the handbook briefly discusses the 4 basic variations of the Army uniform and unfortunately (for me, at least) only show illustrations of the 2 Vehicle command Crewers (AT-AT and AT-ST). Page forward to page 86 which depicts an Imperial Garrison and it appears to show a large group of troopers with helmets and armor carrying blasters.

I really like the concept of an Imperial Infantry Trooper, the lowest, most basic member of the Military. My question is; are there any other examples of Imperial Army Troopers in the wide world of the Star Wars universe other than what I've found in the handbook? And if so, how many examples would be needed to be considered for the possibility of approval by the 501st?

I think someone who was not in the military came up with the name staff officer. They are not the same thing as in the real world military. We have seen them in charge of bunkers, in charge of navy troopers, in c&c centers, and with R1, with rank and more responsibility. That is the reason I chose to make a staff officer. There was some talk a few years ago about trying to change the name, which I am all for, just for this reason.

Not to offend anyone, but a Staff Officer in armor would be kinda like a combat clerk typist.

I posted this on another thread, it's said to be an Instagram photo from Ron Howard taken during filming. Looks like a couple of actors wearing AT-ST style buckets.

I'd say a standard pressing should be enough to pass inspection. A military crease would look good on straight trousers though.

I had the day off, so of course I spent it trying to get the answer to this question about rank / affiliation. There is no definitive answer. The best I could come up with is a Senior Colonel, Imperial Army Intelligence. I don't know if the orange tiles were deliberately meant to be unique to Death Star officers, or if we just never see them outside the Death Star because of the story line. The reason I say Intelligence over Operations is the organization of the tiles on the rank bar. If the bar began with orange tiles it would be Ancillary (Research, Logistics, Engineering) but since it starts with red tiles it denotes Military Intelligence. The red tiles also make it Army, since if it were Navy intelligence the would be three blues then three orange with the rank of Senior Commodore. Most of this information comes from the new books and movies, and of course ANH.

According to The Force .net and their Star Wars Technical Commentaries, this officer is identified as a non-combat technical specialist such as a medic, engineer, or scientist. Their justification is the uniform layout itself. The black cap signifies their technical expertise over ordinary crew members. This information comes from older source material prior to the new movies and books.
