This seems like a weird take away.  I spent 3 years and >$3k on a costume for a comic character that basically no one has ever heard of, including tracking down original artists and writers to get their take on references that may no longer exist or have never been published--and I don't even consider myself that much of a costuming nerd, compared to some people I've met.  I know folks who only ever do con events or other "fun" lesser charity focused events.

I mean I've done plenty of trips to the oncology wing too myself, but the legion and reasons for costuming are varied.  Some people are more about the costuming aspect than the charity aspect, and some are about the charity aspect way more than the costuming.  I think we need to cater to both as a legion.  I don't think having a well written CRL for random characters like Xizor or Zuckuss hurt the charity work we do in any way.

During my tenure as a DL, my philosophy of CRLs has always been the focus on the bare minimum approvable costume, and gutting out extra detail facts as much as possible to be moved to something within the detachment itself; it's why I always had a tough time reading over comic and video game CRLs, especially when they use things like measurements, material types, etc.  But at the core of it, the detachments to me are all about the costumes, so it's no surprise our focus is there and making the best records we can.

Starting this thread for the discussion of the Non Saga Imperial Officer Uniform.  The Detachment used to call this "line" officers for the original trilogy, we will no longer use fan created names when naming costumes going forward.

A few guiding principles for this costume and thread (these are not binding but they will be discussed):

It will contain details and options that we see from the year 2015 on.  The Original Trilogy Line Officer will be not be touched in anyway unless some special information comes to light from those films. It will incorporate options that we have seen on screen from the new Non Saga anthology movies, television shows and other licensed material (straight pants and Chelsea boots versus, breeches and boots, optional white shirt and hatless officers). The construction will follow how the costumes are made for these productions (Modesty tabs will be optional but recommended, expansion joints in boots as seen on screen, etc) Accessories if seen used in licensed LFL material will be added to the CRL.  in many cases, the accessories are already existing in other CRLs and can be quickly added when verified. Permission for face characters to be allowed will be secured at level one, provided licensed LFL material can be referenced.
How we will do things is up for debate.  What is not for debate is finding a way for members to be able to create the licensed LFL characters they have seen in media.   We will find a way and I think this is the best platform to do so while preserving what has come before and we do not want undone.  This is the core costume for going forward.   Having this move forward will give us the agility to respond when we see them used in future Disney LFL productions.

We will be soliciting models from the membership.  A number already have uniforms mostly assembled or ready to go.  We expect at least two variants for the uniform with different potential face characters to be displayed.  If you would like to participate, let us know.

I would say the round circles you're seeing on the left side of the buckle are simply the belt holes which are present on many imperial belts, exaggerated a bit for artistic effect.  I don't think they're intended to be actual rivets.

I bid a fond farewell to the staff of the IOC.  It's been an honor and a privilege to serve the IOC for the past 8 years.

So good luck to all, I'll still be around to advise, but I now fly into the wild blue yonder.

The mix of OT and Rogue One rank tile sizes is killing me.  Updating the CRLs to accommodate this is going to be tricky.

And come on, give them more than two ranks! LOL

I love the addition of the holster and blaster, though. It's about time!

All that said, I've already made a 2x2 rank bar for reference.

    Very good &
    Good luck.
Just remember the core parts/steps of making an approved costume idea come to full 501st approved costume reality:
1 A legitimate Canon/Legends source. (should be easy enough with everything we have access to in 2020)
2 Front/back full images of the costume taken from above sources. (Also should be easy with modern day resources)
3 Someone who legitimately/fully creates/constructs the complete costume accurately/correctly, along with all its applicable parts & submits them here for review by way of all meticulous/well-lighted/high-def images the detachment staff need. (Here's where the detachment will typically run into a wall with the costumer misunderstanding the process, or not seeing-through the process to end by way of loosing interest, failure to follow instructions, or failure to provide required/accurate photos.)
4 The Detachment Leader, Detachment staff,  & Legion Membership Officers cohesively working together to help the candidate-costume work toward official approval & agree on what needs to be set in stone for final approval with the help of applicable guidance/sources & appointed staff.
    Hope that helps.

[MODERATOR NOTE: THIS RANK CHART THREAD IS NOW CONSIDERED OBSOLETE.  PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING THREAD FOR THE CURRENT RANK CHART USED BY THE IOC: ]

    [/END OF MODERATOR NOTE]

This the official guide to illustrate all canon officer ranks recognized by the IOC. It is compiled with reference from the original movies, and official EU sources. It is created from a costuming point of view, and not meant to explain every rank's importance or how they differ from movie to movie (that's what fan fiction is for). It is just a simple chart that shows what rank officially goes on what costume. Code cylinders are intentionally excluded, and can be referenced in the CRLs.

Note Rogue one/Solo ranks are only compatible with Rogue one uniform style

COMMAND STAFF EDIT: There is a more current/comprehensive rank bar guide in this location:

Weapons are optional, after all. If it's OK with your unit, go ahead and troop with it.
I would not be against it being added to the CRL, but do keep in mind, CRLs are not designed to describe or spell out every singe possible detail or circumstance, i.e. "Navy Troopers shall have their boots on their feet & not wear pauldrons or capes", so don't be too hard on them.
