  1. Group photo location has changed AGAIN
    https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=102127&start=120

"This time, the change was not by choice. ReedPop rejected the location, and also early access to the changing area. They have security/safety concerns about the size of our group and the location. And now that the weather forecast is confirmed to be showing rain... we've had no choice but to move it one more time.

The new location is frankly NOT ideal in any way. It is small, and will be an extremely tight fit. We are just going to have to make do with it.

I've had questions about the following:

Where do we park? Sorry folks -- parking is on your own. We can't help with that. The SWCC Website does have some parking links (See their travel pages)

Where do we change? Changing room access prior to the show is not available. So we go with the old standby -- change where ever you can. Hotel rooms, parking lots, etc.

Where do we store bins? Unfortunately same as above. Since we don't have changing room access, we also have no bin storage. So you'll have to store bins wherever you change.

To be honest, we're just too big as a group for most locations to handle a mass photo.

We're sorry that its not the best time, location, or very convenient. A lot of this is unfortunately out of our control. So please-- don't shoot the messenger.

    NEW INFORMATION--updated AGAIN 04/05/2019:

    Date: Sunday April 14th
Time: 9:00 am (yes, before the con starts)
Location: South Building, Interior Steps (S100), [/size][/b]

The plan is to shoot the photo within 10-15 minutes-- we have to move QUICKLY. Don't be late, in fact--arrive early. The doors to these stairs are open round the clock, as its also an access point for the Hyatt.

The changing room is in the west building, the photo location is in the south building. We will not be able to get access into the changing rooms early due to security surrounding the queueing entry line. *I'M REALLY SORRY folks, we tried!* --please arrive at the picture already suited up.

HIGHLY suggest you arrive at 845 am, be dressed and ready to go, we are going to organize the pic, snap it, and then to the west building.

To go inside with the group post photo, you MUST have your ticket/badge on you to show security. No badge, no entry. We will take the skybridge as a group over to the West Building to join the line to enter the hall post photo.

Here's some pix of the location below.

Please spread the word to your garrisons and folks that you know who are traveling to the show. Some of the international attendees are starting their travel within the next few days. Some taking extended trips may have already left!"

  2. Oooh THAT gray suit! Got it. When the phrase "cadet suit" was being used I was thinking the white suit that both him, Thrawn, and a bunch of others wear (the one that we have a CRL for that's call "Imperial Cadet" - http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:ID_Imperial_Cadet).

So now that I'm caught up and on the same page... yes that suit I'd say is different enough to be its own CRL. Curious what the deciding factor was as to why he has his own different suit then the others around him. Artistic standpoint it was probably to set him apart from the others, in universe reasoning... who knows!

  3. I'm a bit confused which suits we're talking about now without having any photos to differentiate that we're talking about this suit and not that suit.

New costume options are always fun, very interested to see where this goes.

  4. I'd vote that his uniform (either one) isn't different enough to warrant its own CRL.

You make a great arguments about Daala (kinda with Eclipse too, but she wears different pants, blah blah blah).

These questions come up all the time, heck a few years ago I tried SO HARD to make a Jagged Fel CRL happen (the hair and scar separate him from the rest), but when you break it all down piece by piece is there really anything different?

I've heard the argument comparing our CRLs to the Clone CRLs, "each different clone has its own CRL, why can't Veers, Ozzel, Motti, etc. have their own CRLs". The thought of that is just a logistical headache, and so many people (myself included) would submit so many costumes for approval, "With this hat and rank bar I'm this guy, with this rank and no hat I'm this guy..."

So what's stopping you from just getting approved as a Line Officer, wearing Vanto's rank and code cylinders combo, and after approval while trooping just make yourself look like Eli as possible. Most command staffs would be cool with it as long as you can prove that the character exists and that's what he looks like, as a GML and Event Coordinator I'd allow it.

I'm sure there is a good reason for the tiny amount of people that will be in this parade.  I've heard something about fire code and such.  (Though with the convention being thousands and thousands of people, I don't know how our parade is any worse.  Presumably our members would have been in the con anyway?)

Pretty disappointing though, when the groups could probably turn out far more people.

It's 10 spots for every 501st detachment and every RL detachment, plus 20 members each for MMCC, GA, DB, SG and TDE... that's a lot of people!
Are you in another detachment? You have other chances to get in on this parade if you have other costumes.

  6. I would agree with your GML that it is long.

I'd say that crotch level is a good length. I would suggest before getting any tailoring done I would pin the tunic at that length, have your GML check it again, and if they're okay with the new length then get it tailored, and of course it's easier to take a little off but near impossible to add more on.

The actual changes don't take that long.  The debate over the correct course of action is what takes time.  These decisions affect people, especially if there is contention over what that correct course of action is.  Setting a precedent can have a ripple effect, so careful consideration and discussion is warranted.

    Very well said!

Making the actual change is simple, but there has to be a system of checks and balances otherwise anyone could go in and change anything at anytime and that's no good. If I was CO and was absolutely convinced that Tarkin wore a pink, purple, and yellow rank bar, and I could change the CRL at any time, I make that change, who knows for how long the CRL was wrong and could stay wrong, and how many members are now wearing wrong rank bars.

So while it seems really stupid to make a big deal over changing a sentence (a change that I also would like to see happen), there's a reason it's not being done instantly.

  8. I know it seems like it would be a simple thing to just go and edit something... but there's hoops and hurdles to jump to get to that point. Permissions, access, all kinds of stuff. And it's being addressed! Your request isn't getting ignored, the IOC CO and LMO person have acknowledged the requests and it's pretty much in a "wait and see" pattern right now.

"as for the discussion no CRL changes are made without Staff/LMO approval"

"At this point, we're getting to an up or down vote between the CRL team and Staff members.

I expect to have either a "It stays as is" which will end the discussion, or a "the Team decided it can be changed". If the team decides it can be changed, I'll present that to the Detachment for a 5 day comment period."

That said, doing a quick image search for Ysanne, looking at official LFL approved images (skimming past the vast images of our members... how cool is that!) it does seem like an even split of Blue over Red and Red over Blue ... there's even some with no rank bar on at all! (and of course the toy that has a single row that looks to be 3 red 3 blue and those Juno like gloves on).

That extra thing if I'm reading you right is actually more accurate than not having it

Huh... learn something new everyday! I'm so use to the normal officer boots having absolutely nothing on them at all that. Thanks for the lesson and pointing out that these boots are even better then I originally thought.
