This is my MazCave tunic. It is coming in around 1.8". Fortunately, I have a long turkey neck. Admittedly, it still feels like something I am wearing to improve my head and neck posture. :) Took me a bit to get used to a collar that is higher than my other tunics, but after a few hours of wearing it, the feeling wore off.

FYI- I am in love with the caf cup. Great for holding electrolyte water to stay hydrated.

My MazKave collar is deffo a bit too high and I think accentuates the skin left over from my double chin days… but alas. It *does* rock because it’s very stiff and won’t crumple down. It was pretty tight at first, but it’s relaxed a bit and I’ve gotten more used to it. Love it. I also get to use the “My collar size is the same as it was at the academy” joke whenever someone has to close it for me. LOL

I need the caf cup! Having the major local con coming up in two weeks, and this will be perfect to stay hydrated. Need to find out where the strips to cover the logo come from…

I am eager to see what happens when Thrawn shows up. My big question is will grand admirals have a purposefully different shade of white than ISB?

I always thought it was cool he had a white uniform, but I didn't understand if there was a reason both he AND the ISB were the same color tunics, or if the tunics were supposed to even be different. But alas...

We know he's always been in a white uniform so it will be interesting to see how future discussions on this will play out.

Rebels Thrawn is technically, a gray.

As for collar height, @kman and I went into the weeds on this one as you can see on page 2 of this thead.

1.75" is what WW sells, and it looks good on me and @buckrogersbarker.

I think 2 inch collars can work for larger folks, but not for the vast majority of us.

The Thrawn vs. ISB thing reminds me a bit of our uniform code for my martial arts school.

    1st DAN - All black

2nd DAN - White top, black pants

3rd DAN - Black top, white pants

4th DAN - Black top, red pants

5th DAN (Master) - Red top, black pants, or all red

That is to say, maybe the difference is in the pants?

  2. Yeah the very light gray looks perfect outdoors, imo... unless you're appearing next to stormtroopers. Then it looks straight-up dove gray. Part of the reason I elected for cool white. But both are valid, the lighting on-set makes it difficult to tell a lot of the time when you look at actual screenshots vs. what was used on-set.

It seems the collars may be scaled a bit to the wearers, from the shots shared here? Definitely not over 2", though. Tbh the slightly less than 2" collar I had MazKave do is a bit too tall for my own neck, so I can't imagine making it any taller than that for most people.

Also have noticed multiple ISB officers in Andor sporting the Krennic-style flap-n-strap on the outside of the boot, which as far as I know, is not an allowed style for Executor in the ISB non-saga CRL.

  3. Hi it's meeeee again! Lol

I have conferred with one of our GMLs and he seems to concur with my analysis so I wanted to throw this out to the peanut gallery.

I think I've come to the conclusion that the ISB officer boots are almost exactly like the Krennic boots, but with the inside invisible zipper, as @Barkydog1 has pointed out in reference. So, they have that back seam, the quarter-circular flap on the back, and the strap on the side, like Krennic's boots, but also the invisible zipper on the inside of the boot.

I think I got a pretty good reference of the back of the boot, considering how wide the shots are that show the boots in detail.

What do y'all think? I am thinking I'm going to order the Krennic boots from CrowProps with the inside invisible zipper modification.

Took a hex code sample from this image. Getting what looks like a good hex code as the tints and shading seem to represent what we are seeing. #e0e4e7

This is a great image that represents the way the coat looks in indoor lighting really well.

In other news, I just got this eyeglass cleaning cloth from out of a drawer and it was white with a slight hint of dove gray and made me go  - _ -  LOL

@chicken45 These are my exact feels wrt all this color debate... ::laugh-cry emoji::

Oh! Edit to add: Are we thinking about belt hooks for higher tiers?

My general thoughts on levels 1 through 3 are that 1 should be accessible for those that want to do the costume.  With higher levels something that can be worked on over years if they want to keep striving to get that level of accuracy.

There has been a lot of pulling level 3 details down to level 1 over the years in the legion.  This does more to dissuade people from joining.  I am a firm believer that costume excellence should be incentivized, not gatekept.

I also suggest looking at the CRLs for the other similar uniforms:  Imperial Military Non-saga, Security Services Non Saga, and the ISB Non Saga to see where we place what is level 2 and level 3.  We are not bound by precedent, but we try to keep these ships flying in formation with one another.

Absolutely! Tier 1 CRLs have gotten pretty ridiculous in some places. Gatekeeping is one thing that gives the Legion a bad rap in the larger costuming community.

It's my opinion that Tier 1 could use any kind of riding boot, but for higher tiers, you need a flat top boot. Maybe the strap and inner zipper required for Tier 3. Basic low, blonde military bun for Tier 1, but details like the style of bun and hair net for higher tiers. A wider range of shades of white for Tier 1, more specific for Tier 2-3. We just seem to have differing opinions on what the "correct" shade of white is for higher tiers. Haha. Personally, I think the idea of a range of cool white to very very light dove gray white for higher tiers, and a wider range of white tones for basic could be a good compromise.

Did we want to iron down "when to wear a hat?"

It came up in discussion that Deds (I'm calling her that now) only seems to wear her hat outdoors WITH her trench coat.

Personally, I like the flexibility of doing whatever. We see Partigaz with his coat on and no hat.

There's days I go outside without a had but a heavier coat.

She appears to follow real-life American military regulation: cover off inside, cover on outside.

Maybe hat optional for basic, but required for higher tiers?

  7. I’m baaaaack with my annoyingness after finals and Christmas. LOL!

Here’s my take on the color thing. There’s a difference between screen-accurate and set-accurate, and I’m going to use the original Star Trek series to illustrate that point (which some may be familiar with):

When you see Captain Kirk on-screen, in the show, the tunic has that 60s/70s gold color to it, with a hint of green. If you ever see the actual costume in real life, it’s straight-up avocado green. The way the studio lighting reflects the color makes it appear MUCH different onscreen. To me, the “screen-accurate” color is what we see on screen, and what we would imagine the uniform would look like in real life if Captain Kirk were to step out of your TV screen and into your living room. The avocado green is set-accurate, so, in real life accurate. In my opinion, we need to be going with what is seen on screen, not for what it looks like in real life. We want to look like we *are* the characters, as they are on-screen, not mannequins in a museum.

Especially as we’re talking Tier 2 and Tier 3 approvals, I really don’t think we want to use the way the costumes appear in the real world as a basis. Tbh, I feel like if it’s anywhere close to what we see on screen, it should be acceptable for Tier 2-3. The shades of olivegrau aren’t that picky for line officers, I don’t see why it should be for Andor ISB and Dedra. Certainly not to the extent of specifying a Pantone color (a family of colors I could see, though).

Also, I would like to suggest potential higher-tier details for Dedra’s hairstyle:

    - She wears a specific bun style that should be re-created/emulated, and

    - She wears a light blonde hair net over the bun.

Dedra’s hairstyle does make her different from her colleagues, after all.

    (Edit for spelling error.)

    It also appears that the inside of her belt is uncolored, which would explain how her uniform isn't covered in black stains from the belt rubbing off;

I ordered my belt with no dye on the back for this reason! Ep 7 keeps giving and giving with these references.

OH! Good eye! Thank you for this, as I was about to put in the formal order. I stand corrected. I will also yoink those references for MazKave, if you don’t mind!

Sky my first concern and the concern of this administration is that all members be able to do the LFL licensed character that they want to do.  We have a history of advocating for women's costumes and CRLs where it had previously met a lot of resistance at both the LMO office and previous IOC administrations.  Where there had been resistance before can be discussed in a separate thread or you can speak to the IOC detachment's diversity officer if you want to know more.

Deedra Meero CAN be done this moment with the existing CRL.  But if you want to have a separate CRL just for her with the same available parts, I will put that forward to the LMO office to vote on.  And we will pursue it through the normal process as you put your costume together.

That would be great, thank you, @buckrogersbarker. :) I know there is someone else in my garrison who is building a Dedra so I will be happy to help in any way.

You *could* also just get some synthetic boots for L1 and regular trooping while you wait for CrowProps.  They are like $70 or so, and are good enough and it's not like you worry about them if you have to troop in the rain etc.  That is what I did.

Unfortunately any boot that goes over my calf has to either be specifically made wide-calf or custom-made. My legs are no joke. Lol

Plus I’ll be waiting the same amount of time for my tunic from MazKave.

I respectfully disagree. I think characters/officers that play a significant role in these stories deserve a CRL. That includes people like Tarkin. I've never heard this sentiment voiced in any other administration but this one.

At the end of the day when you go to the GML, you will not be approved as Dedra, you will be ISB. No matter what is said or promoted here. This is not how the legion works.

It's a good system, for background officers sure. But you won't be approved as that Officer, you'll just be line, staff, or ISB with that named character configuration.

This is one of the first on screen imperial officer female leads, and not giving her a CRL is a disservice to our female members here in the IOC and the legion as whole. You have the interest, let the CRL be made.

    Tom

I wholeheartedly agree with Eagle in my capacity as Diversity Officer for my garrison. A female imperial lead is a VERY big deal and to not include her as her own CRL would be a disservice to all female and femme-presenting 501st members who have been waiting so long for a major female Imperial face character. This could also have implications for possible LFL casting troops, although they are rarer these days, I will admit. And people want to see face characters, let’s be honest.

She and the femme-identifying members of the Legion deserve more than “ISB non-saga with three blue tiles and a blonde bun.”

On the point of the middle seam, there is no evidence it *is* there in the non-saga ISB uniforms. Not in the references I’ve been able to find, anyway. They rarely show the tunic without the belt, so the opportunities to look are few and far between. We only know it’s there in the OT uniforms because they’ve been on display where they can be closely examined. The ISB non-saga has not had that opportunity, to my knowledge.

I am currently working to get higher-res images, and reaching out to find someone who might be able to tell me more. I’m also working closely with my GML, who is an approved staff officer and naval trooper. We’ve been pouring over the scenes where Dedra and the other ISB officers appear, and as far as we can see clearly, at least in Andor, they all wear the same style flat top boot with a strap. The location and style of the strap is still something we’re trying to nail down.

  12. Hi! Would love an advisor - I'm in Denver, Colorado but remote is fine (I honestly don't think there's anyone here who has the experience I think I'll need), just would like someone who can help me with the Andor version of the ISB officer. Also wanting to do Dedra Meero to double with the generic ISB non-saga.

Want to also note I am in close contact with one of my garrison's GMLs who is a staff officer.

  13. Makes sense - the current version seems copy/pasted from the saga version. Which is fine, trying to keep track of all these details is maddening. Haha. I just don't want to get dinged for having screen-accurate boots! Especially since I'm going to have to have them made custom.

  14. Not to clog up the thread, but I went through the same scene in Ep 7 where Dedra puts on her tunic, and the tunic she pulls out of the closet also seems to imply the absence of the horizontal waist seam, based on where her belt sits.

It’s likely that ALL Imperial boots in Andor have these flaps/straps/buckles, as the close-up that I posted is from one of the Imperial soldier’s boots on Aldani (and costumers prefer to buy in bulk, both for continuity and budget) They are visible not only on Meero’s boots, but several other ISB officers.  I believe this detail is/was in one of the IOC CRLs as an optional detail on the top of the boots, was it not?  I can’t help but wonder if they saw that in the CRL and decided to incorporate it into the new boots, which would be really cool.

I am inclined to agree. It’s annoying that there’s no way to capture these in high-res, especially since it’s so difficult to get a good look at the boots to begin with. The boots on the green officers look differen't, somehow. Like there's an extra panel below the buckle? Also, I don't see a buckle on the ISB boots. Again, high-res would help SO much lol.

I have had the ISB non-saga CRL bookmarked for some time now, and there is no mention of any tabs on the boot, optional or not. In fact, it says NO tabs are to be on the boot at all. Level 3 certification also requires the rounded, raised sides, like equestrian boots - the boots in Andor clearly are not like this. So someone trying to faithfully re-create what is seen in Andor would not meet basic approval with the boots, let alone Tier 3.
