One year ago, on July 7th 2016, I joined the IOC. Starting only with the imagination of being Grand Admiral Thrawn one day. Thanks to all the information and, most of all, the help of the people here at the forum I achieved this goal in November 2016. Many things changed sinced this time, I'm now a Staff Officer too and soon an ISB Officer and Director Krennic will be added to my list of uniforms.

This would not have been possible without you, all the fantastic members of the IOC around the globe, which were providing knowledge, help and high quality props. A big THANK YOU to all of you! And thanks to the IOC-Advisor program I am now even able to give a little bit of my knowledge back to new members of the IOC which is a great thing! But the greatest thing of all is still to bring a smile on the face of the people we meet at troops and conventions and doing good at the same time.

    Long live the Empire!
    Long live the IOC!
    Long live you all!

I was born in 1979. The first one I was able to watch in the movie theater was RTOJ. I was too young to really remember my parents taking me there. I remember watching bad VHS copies of ANH and ROTJ at least once a week when I was about 5 or 6 years old. We didn't have ESB but I watched at a friends house. As far as I know I have been a Star Wars  fan all of my life.

PArmstr got a reaction from Hask in Proposed Updates to CRL Staff Officer Black to Staff Officer Rogue One
I agree with Furiosa. Similar to her, I have been doing research on this type of uniform for about 2.5 years. All line officers and ISBs in ANH have waist seems, darts and princess seams on the back because they are either replicas of uniforms from the time from about 1860 till the about 1914 or are based on their design.

During my research I found out that the ISB uniforms are officer summer tunics from the Imperial Russian Army. The detentions guard and warrant officer uniforms are 1950s NY police dress tunics, these are very similar to the enlisted tunics of the Royal Air Corps. The staff officer tunics were the tunics from Fahrenheit 451. The line officer uniforms are the only uniforms that were made specifically for ANH, all others were borrowed stock uniforms. This information can be found on page 21 of the book “Star Wars Costumes The Original Trilogy”. There is only one uniform were I have no clue on what uniform it is based on and that is the hall walker uniform because they aren’t mentioned in the book and I also haven’t found the uniform anywhere in the internet yet. The search is quite difficult if you don’t know the time period and country they are from.

Now back to the problem. Should waist seams be mentioned in CRLs if they are covered by belts? We all agree that CRLs cover things that we can see and shouldn’t cover things that aren’t visible. The CRLs for officers are special because they also mention things in level 2 and 3 that aren’t seen, such as waist seams, which are covered by belts, sewn in lining and snaps or buttons. In case of the ISB we go even father because we mention a dart in the yoke as well as princess seams on the back and a seam that is on the sleeve. Those can all not be seen in ANH, not even in the Blue-Ray, due to the quality of the film but we know that they have to be there. There is even one thing that is there but isn’t mentioned at all. The ISB tunics have a split in the center of back peace of the skirt. It can be seen for a very short moment in one screen. I definitely think all the non-visible things should stay in the CRL because they are a major part of the film accurate costume but perhaps all these things should be pushed back to level 3.

    Friendly neighborhood LMO here.

There has been a wealth of references submitted here.  The LMO Team has went through every piece of it, including the things uploaded just yesterday.  I will emphasize that from our perspective that when we decided if any specific reference was useable or not, we did not do so with the mindset of attempting to prove the existence of the character in the Star Wars Universe.  It definitely exists.  Nor were we concerned over the references being EU or Legends sourced.  After all, we do have a Detachment that specializes in such.

The mindset we had when reviewing the material was trying to establish a common, replicatable, and uniform costume.  With that in mind, a good 80% of the material cannot be used for our (Legion's) purposes.  However, of the remaining 20% of material (which is still a good bit, mind you), the references are clear, show uniformity, show full length back/side/front, show detail.

Yes, we will make a CRL of the character: Imperial Army Trooper.

However.  It will not be exactly what the first pass was in recreating it.  The LMO Team, thus far, has determined that a good baseline of what the character uses as a consistency base is the harness, suit, belt, helmet.  Other items may be added as optional accessories, but we will get to that when we get to it

We are placing this in No Detachment Affiliation for the time being, and the LMO Team will work with Tarrif (and others, if any are) directly on the production of the costume, first,  to match the acceptable references, and then secondly, create the CRL based on that.

    To be clear:

A "generic" FO General based off of Hux is fine, and what was done.

A "generic" FO officer of any other rank based off of Hux is a no-go at this time.  Non generals on screen have different uniforms than Hux / Generals.  Ep8 may show something different, who knows.

This kept getting conflated in conversations on the topic, unfortunately, and is perhaps why some folks got confused and checked out.  However, as the LMO assigned to help the IOC shepherd their CRL's, I've been quite clear with folks on what CRL's needing working on and in which priority.

So far, since the beginning of term (March as you say) IOC CRL's that have been published include Pryce, FO Gen, and very soon, CW Animated Tarkin.  And four other CRL's about to start the publishing process (Erso, R1-ISB edits, Rebels Thrawn, Krennic edits and new accessories).

That is a fair amount of work in just 2 months.  Especially in an all-volunteer organization.  To be fair

Many people try to use the McCall's M 4745 Civil War pattern for the tunic. I don't recommend it because the shoulders of the sleeve are weird. The instructions are also a little bit difficult to follow.

Some people use the Butterick B6340 pattern for the jodhpurs trousers.

I suggest using Hawk's pattern from the forum for the tunic.

Dave Filoni: 'Star Wars Rebels' Will Not Address The Battle Of Scarif

Last week's Star Wars Celebration Orlando was an exciting and bittersweet time for Star Wars Rebels fans. Not only did we get the first trailer for the fourth season of the series, we learned that this upcoming season will be the final one.

Last year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured a number of cool Easter Eggs, including appearances by The Ghost, Chopper and mentions of Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels. Due to at least a few members of the Ghost crew being present at the Battle Of Scarif, there has been much speculation about the idea of Star Wars Rebels showing us their perspective of the battle. Unfortunately that prospect doesn't appear to be in the current plan.

In a new interview with /Film's Peter Sciretta, Dave Filoni confirms that the Battle Of Scarif will not be included in season four of Star Wars Rebels:

While Filoni furthered confirmed that Saw Gerrera and Edrio Two Tubes would be appearing in the fourth season, he seemed to suggest the planet that where we saw them in Rogue One, Jedha, won't be appearing in the series.

Thank you, Rhaethe, for summerizing the information on the thread. For some reason I am having problems getting my point across. I agree with everything you wrote and I love your compromise.

Transforming breast and waist darts in more or less straight princess seams is the next thing I want to try out. The yoke of a line officer or staff officer should hide the seams. Unfortiunately, that will not work with a ISB of real ANH warrant officer tunic because the yoke is different and will not hide the seam on the left side. Since the ISB and the ANH warrant officer are also on my wish list I will have to wait and see if Rhaethe compromise will be added to the CRLs.

In the Legion thread, which I had followed while it ran, there was a fairly passionate post by a seamstress who discussed a way to "rotate" a dart so it was hidden under the front placket and not visible.  Once it's not visible, there should be no problem with following the existing CRL and being approved by pretty much any GML.  So I'm not clear why this option is inadequate.  Perhaps someone who knows sewing better than me can explain why?  More difficult, yes, but as Rhaethe explained, I had to learn some new techniques to add shims to my TK armor to accommodate MY "non-standard Imperial size" body, so why is that inadequate?

PArmstr reacted to Rhaethe in Breasts in costumes
From what I have been able to gather, some folks put in visible darts to improve fit.  When they do, some GML's see the darts and do not approve the costumes.  This is all, however, anecdotal, and it is hard to make a judgement call one way or another without seeing very specific examples.

    My particular take is:

Very obvious seams and darts do, for good or ill, affect the visual appearance of a costume, in more ways than one.  While we want the costume to fit properly and well, we also do not want to change it visibly or structurally (i.e. extra obvious seams, etc).  Example ... the oft-complained about uniboob is not going to go away because of how the tunic itself is constructed.  There is a placket that goes over the chest, tightly.  Adding even invisible darts to that to allow for separating the boobs (a la the non-approved femtrooper armor, aka boob armor) would be a "No".

It is possible to place in hidden darts, and I do not see why that should be a problem for basic approval.  It is more difficult to hide darts, admittedly ... but along the same lines, it is also (in my mind) difficult to hide the seams that occur when you shim armor.  But people do.

In the case of boots, we do have language that says "If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.  Not visible from the front, side or back."  It is not until you get to L2 that it says No Zippers at all.

I, like our Head LMO, am against changing a CRL on a fundamental level, or building new CRL's entirely just to accommodate some over-zealous GML's, or tailors that are not inclined to take the extra steps to hide darts.

To compromise both "sides" however, language can be added to Basic Approval that states: "*Invisible or very discreet darts only as needed for better crisp fit can be allowed."  and then place in L/2 "*Fitment darts must be invisible."

And honestly, that not only helps the ladies, but also anyone of not "perfect standard sizing".
