xAlpha got a reaction from TwistedZen in Line Officer costume sources?
If you could find a tailor who could work without a solid pattern, that's also an option, maybe between 1 and 2. But while I understand that armor seems like it should be more expensive, there's an economy of scale there. Also, plastic is cheap, proper fabrics are not, and it's a lot more work-intensive to sew a uniform than to pull plastic (especially when much of the labor on the plastic armor is done by the purchaser, not the seller).

xAlpha reacted to captsafe66 in My 250th 501st Troop!
I just wanted to share a personal milestone I reached yesterday. This is a pic from my 169th IOC troop, but it also happened to be my 250th 501st troop!
I started this journey back in 2011. I have met so many of great 501st members, as well as many from other Star Wars costuming groups. I've seen so many smiling faces as we've shared our Love of Star Wars and desire for helping Charity. I've always tried to remember that we are doing this for that reason and tried to be as diplomatic as possible with everyone I've worked with. Sometimes, things get misinterpreted or misunderstood and opinions have differed, but I Love and respect everyone that has joined me on this journey that we all are following through this Galaxy, far, far away.

xAlpha reacted to Duchessina in How To Stay in Character When You’re the Lone Imperial?
I'm probably going to re-enact the Tarkin taunting Leia about Alderaan scene from ANH (because all the Leia costumers in my garrison/base are ANH era).

I find it hard to stay in character most of the time, kids doing cute things makes me laugh. That's not very officer-like!
That said, you could constantly harass the rebel traitor and groan at the Jawa? I guess?

xAlpha got a reaction from Trachta in Celebration Anaheim 2020
I definitely want to go one year, but I was hoping it would be anywhere other than Anaheim next. I grew up 40 minutes away, but now I live in New Hampshire, which means if I went, I'd feel obligated to visit friends and family. I want to go, but I want to focus solely on Celebration.

That's usually how these newer costumes have been handled (all, for that matter). Easier and more lenient at the basic levels, and tightening towards screen-accurate (to the extent possible) as you go higher.

xAlpha reacted to Chargrilled in Navy Trooper Dress CRL Update
Hello all!
Jeff advised to stick a thread up regarding a proposed change to the Imperial Navy Trooper: Dress Uniform CRL so as to get some eyeballs on it.
Currently, the CRL only lists holsters for Version One (ANH) and Version Two (ESB):
My proposal is to add another holster entry below "Holster, Versions One and Two" and above "DH-17 blaster", which would look like the following:
Image (example):
Holster, Version Four
Made of black leather or leather-like material.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Holster is made of leather. Holster is worn on the right-hand side of the belt. Holster is affixed via a single solid loop over the belt. No buttons/snaps/rivets/screws are used. Joining edges are stitched only. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
Holster is made from a single piece of continuous leather. Holsters made from 2 or more joined pieces are not acceptable. The outer surface of the holster is smooth black with a subdued shine. The inside of the holster is a raw black leather texture.
Image credit to @ID6187. I just removed the background in Photoshop and rotated it to match the CRL style.
Myself and BJ both (among others I believe) have Philo's holsters and they're dead on to the reference images:

Let me know what you think

xAlpha reacted to DarthFunk83 in Eli Vanto CRL Discussion
My two cents, it may be possible to do a new CRL for the cadet uniform because that one is a grey uniform. As of right now, with the current CRLs that we have, any grey uniform would be rejected, so making a new CRL for that style would make sense.

I agree, Bobby. And we have members who do just that, already, without any issues.

xAlpha reacted to Mitthrawnuruodo in Eli Vanto CRL Discussion
I'd vote that his uniform (either one) isn't different enough to warrant its own CRL.
You make a great arguments about Daala (kinda with Eclipse too, but she wears different pants, blah blah blah).
These questions come up all the time, heck a few years ago I tried SO HARD to make a Jagged Fel CRL happen (the hair and scar separate him from the rest), but when you break it all down piece by piece is there really anything different?
I've heard the argument comparing our CRLs to the Clone CRLs, "each different clone has its own CRL, why can't Veers, Ozzel, Motti, etc. have their own CRLs". The thought of that is just a logistical headache, and so many people (myself included) would submit so many costumes for approval, "With this hat and rank bar I'm this guy, with this rank and no hat I'm this guy..."
So what's stopping you from just getting approved as a Line Officer, wearing Vanto's rank and code cylinders combo, and after approval while trooping just make yourself look like Eli as possible. Most command staffs would be cool with it as long as you can prove that the character exists and that's what he looks like, as a GML and Event Coordinator I'd allow it.

What I feel is that this costume is more of an underworld detachment instead of IOC because of the story plot they have.

I suppose I support making the greeblie mandatory for level 2, at least on ROTJ naval troopers. It seems about 50/50 for crewmen. Ultimately that's up to leadership and the CRL team.
The good news is that my beard got on my nerves (sometimes it grows in great, sometimes not) so it's gone. The bad news is it's cold and not very sunny, but I may be able to get full pics this week.

Definitely look in to Mux Leather boots. Mine are amazing, and they're custom but reasonably priced.
