  1. Also ask the seller about the calf size of the boots. Ask for measurements at the widest part of the calf from the inside of the boot and at the top of the boot. You want the boot calf to fit closely but not enough to strangle your leg to death or hugely gaping at the top. The boots themselves look good with a needed polishing up!

  2. For the breaking in period, I'd suggest using boot hooks, a jack and some heel lifts. The lifts will help the back of your knee as the leather settles down. The wrinkles at the ankle can be straightened by using boot hooks when you pull the boots on... if its too tight at the calf, you can get a cobbler to stretch them or you can try using a plastic bag to help slip them on temporarily. And yes, it can be awkward to do stairs :) No stairs on horses

  3. Hiya,

I've been looking at various boots for a future Imperial Crew build and it seems that the Knobelbechers are getting harder to find. If I find a size thats reasonable in cost (under 200.00) should I go for it? I'm a little confused over the German sizing system. Is a 245 (38) equivalent to 24.5 cm? And I've been wondering about whether I should get insoles as I don't know how comfortable these things are or if they fit big or small.. I'm looking at these:

  4. Hiya,

I know buying boots is one of the harder aspects of an officer. The boots that are pictured I would say are disqualified:

    1. Back zipper -CRL - If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.

Not visible from the front, side or back.

    2. Flap and snap at the back of the boot, the stitched area near the front of the boot called a toe cap and the swagger tab on the upper outside calf top

CRL - There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration

Ideally you want a dress boot (avoid field boots with laces at the instep) which is a pull-on. In the riding world the current trend is for back zippers and/or stretch panels unfortunately. There are still available boots out there!
