I currently have a Dedro Meero tunic in progress with Francesco. We discussed the color this week (since it's been a topic of discussion here.) He said he's searching on the light grey, but at the moment he's told everyone he will use cool white.

Cool white is actually a good description for the color. This term is normally used more in terms of describing LED colors or paint colors, but it is defined as a white that contains more "blue light," or a white that is "blue white."

I have a suggestion, based upon something we were discussing in our garrison ISB Build group. We were also talking about colors there. One of our build group members, Jeremy, shared this image from when he was working on the Death Watch Live Action CRL. They used this chart to make sure everyone got the colors correct, even with Pantone to Hex conversions. Both Pantone and Hex values are offered for all of the colors to ensure all who were building kept the colors within the same family of hues. Creating a similar chart could be a valuable tool in ensuring the pieces of the Andor ISB Officer are within the correct family of hues.

    Thoughts?

Now that the CRL has been created (hooray!), can we propose updates?

The Non-Saga INT CRL currently uses the OT-style vacuformed ComPad. In Andor, the INT appears to use an Imperial Crew ComPad, with a modified color scheme:

I've seen other CRLs with Pantone numbers specified.  (Hell, I've been involved in updating CRLs where the detachment specifically wanted to include Pantone numbers.)  If we are going to get that specific, we need to strongly emphasize that Pantone colors are to be used only as a recommendation in order to help convey a rough idea of the color we are looking for and are not a requirement in any shape or form.

Textile swatches are meant to be physically color matched in person, which will only happen if you have a GML who has spent their own money to buy a Pantone swatch, has cared for it according to Pantone recommendations so it is an accurate representation of the color, and is using the swatch to compare to an applicant's costume they are physically inspecting in person. (How often has that ever happened?)

The most likely scenario is that a GML is examining a photo of a color swatch with a photo of an applicant's costume, which introduces variables such as camera quality and white balance in the applicant photos, how the swatch and the applicant photos display on the GML's monitor (which is likely not color calibrated), the GML's unique perception of color, etc. For example, the swatch above on my uncalibrated monitor looks like a warm cream that's darker than Yularen's uniform in ANH, and isn't even close to the cool very pale grey of how I perceive Dedra's uniform on screen. I personally would not approve the screen worn costume if I was a GML who was told to only approve costumes that match the swatch above.

Anyone who's ever been to a paint store and torn their hair out trying to choose a shade of white knows how annoying this is going to be.

As this is a generic and is a specific character, I am ok with getting more specific.  I would hope to keep such specificity to higher levels (2 or 3) to not create a barrier for those that want to do this while allowing the highest costume standard possible.

Excellent job showing your work there.   You showed your sources.

Kalani,  is it possible to allow the correct shade of grey as a level two or three requirement? I worked in print production and to get corporate logos exactly correct we always deferred to the Pantone color chart. Pantone colors are available for fabric swatches, (at any fabric store, even Wal-Mart.) Just for the sake of argument, say we agreed the color is light grey and this acceptable for  level two or level three approval. Couldn't we help folks out by tracking down the proper Pantone number for them? We could use light grey as the starting point and go from there. (My source from the show also confirmed the color they used is light gray.)

The only reason I'm digging my heels in on this one is the issue of screen accuracy. If we pride ourselves on getting the details right, white is white and grey is grey. ISB officers come in different colors now. But, the Andor ones we are trying to write the CRL for now are not white. It's just not accurate to say they are. As costumers, I think we're all slightly obsessive about details. If we want people to use the correct shade of grey, tell them the exact numerical shade to use. It takes the guesswork out for the costumers and the GMLs.

the flares look nicer if you have something inside them to stiffen them.  Anything to hold them pulled to your feet will prevent them bunching up at the knees

Nice... I guess Star Wars.com is officially dubbing them "Imperial Security Troopers" so that's the canon name.

I still suspect IOC won't get them, since they're just a color variant of the existing Army Trooper armor (which I believe SpecOps has all of those variants already), but good to have that locked down at least.

Yes indeed I am planning on making it a little bit shorter (about 5 cm) so that it's around a "palm's length" below the end of my hands (Beehaz had about the same). As for the flair out of the tunic it's mostly my body shape (gained a few kilos during Covid unfortunate) and also the pant's kind of "push" them outwards, but I'm gonna be thinking about that yet. Besides, I believe once it'll be a tad shorter it'll fix on itself so to speak. Stay tuned for the next update

Understand that the army troopers of Andor are all green.  They are part of the imperial military: navy and army.  They are commanded by imperial military officers in green.

The guys in black are the security services.  Enlisted and officers.  They are NOT the military.  They are part of the political party directly connected to the Emperor.  Eventually they will take over all of the Imperial military, have their own star destroyers and command legions... but not just yet.

The ISB is an agency adjacent to the security services. And both of them have very specific goals.

Palbo Hildalgo made it very clear with the first few episode of Andor... the organizational structure of the empire the ISB, the security services and COMPNOR are being taken directly from THIS book.

We posted a PDF copy of it not so long ago.  If you want to see how it is organized you can.

The legion has a history of fan created names for things, but that doesn't mean that is what the productions call them or how they are used from a lore standpoint.

But from a costume structure standpoint, these are the same costumes as the army troopers just in black.

    Hello @Kalani-

The same stitching is seen in Andor. Dedra Meero has the fake pocket on her left chest and the visible stitching on both of her hip level pockets.

With regards to other references, I believe the Kenobi coats are recycled from Rogue One (streets of Jedha) but I can't find a decent screen cap that shows the coat style was updated.

Here comes my Imperial Gala Officer's Uniform (Jeyhold Beehaz) Work-in-Progress v1.5

Still need to make a few adjustments (higher collar, thicker epaulettes, etc.) but I think it's going really, really well and starting to look like the one from the show. I even got to troop in it for a few hours this weekend to show it off, test it's practicality and ask some constructive criticism as to help me make it the best possible creation for the CRLs and by extension all of us officers here in the IOC.

What do you guys think so far? I think it's pretty neat and helps with cold weather.

P.S. I was making the pics from my phone in the office and forgot to take off my shirt and close the collar so sorry for that. In a couple of weeks (or somewhat sooner I hope) it should be fully ready with the cape and the ceremonial belt (as soon as they're made) and then we can start working on introducing the CRLs for Version One (Standard belt and cap with no cape) and also Version Two (Ceremonial Belt with cape and cap with black, leather visor).
